Movies also don't have an AO equivalent rating. The harshest movie rating is NC-17 (no one under 17 allowed), and R (17+ or with an adult) is much more common to see. This is because ratings for 18+, either totally restrcted to that or with an adult otherwise, is too close.
So not only are they demanding something for a video game rating they would not demand for a movie rating, they want to see if the rating should be so marginally tougher that there is no movie equivalent.

I think you mean:
D pad
modern analog stick
motion control
But the attach rates are important, and saying the bluray side has casual movie watchers is totally false.
If I am a casual viewer, and I go to the store, and I can either spend $250 or $450 to watch a movie in HD, why would I spend the extra $200? The only reason to spend that extra money is if you're very interested in the slight edge in memeory to bluray, which most people don't care about, and most people agree makes no difference in quality (in fact, I hear HD DVD looks a...
So you don't believe MS because they lied about failure rates? Those they should have known there was a serious problem, at that time, there really wasn't enough data to make a conclusion on the failure rate, and, really, there still isn't. The failure rate could be 50% for all we know (I saw one poll that 60% of people who owned a 360 had it fail at least once), and many consoles are yet to fail, or it could be 5%, with the consoles that fail, failing multiple times. 25-33% was the figure...
Let's all complain a little more about the lack of hardcore games on the Wii. All they have right now is RE4, Super Paper Mario, Zelda, Madden (since after its release, before people were saying it's casual, but after, I've seen more people saying its hardcore because it sold well on the 360), Mario Strikers, Sonic and the Secret Rings, MP3, and Splinter Cell.
Oh waht will we ever do with only a few hundred hours of hardcore games and a few hundred more comming out this year? ...
More layers means more storage, but until someone can prove that they can go beyond the limit they can produce right now, it means nothing.
You can talk about wavelengths of light being a limiting factor, and it is, but you have to understand, the differences in the wavelength of light used us very small. Someday, when we're using light in pm to read optical discs, sure, the difference between that and now will be huge. As far as I know, HD DVD and bluray run on just about th...
All the next gen systems will have the motion control.
What happened after Nintendo gave us the D pad? What happened after Nintendo gave us the modern analog stick? What will happen now that Nintendo has given us motion control?
The next incarnations of the MS and Sony consoles will have it too, and Sony already did what they did with the analog stick, tacked it onto their controller already (remember when the playstation didn't have a analog stick?)

Care to explain how MS gets anything from HD DVD winning?
Before, it was price against studio support. That's a war that can drag on. Now studio support is about equal, and I would say bluray needs to do some manuvering to avoid checkmate.
If MS wanted to prolong the war, they would have avoided getting more support for HD DVD, because it would have been hard for bluray to wipe out HD DVD, anyway, at the price cheap HD DVD players can be bought for.
This sounds great. It sounds somewhat like Pikmin and Civilization put together and made Harvest Moon style. I guess this is one more to add to this list of great games hitting the Wii, if only because it has all of the makings of greatness!
A CD could hold 0.7 GB, and we look at DVDs, they can store 4.7 GB.
This is up 6.7 times!
DVDs could hold 4.7 GB, but HD DVD can hold 15 GB.
This is up 3.2 times!
HD DVD can hold 15 GB, but bluray can hold 25 GB.
This is up only 1.7 times.
As we can see, bluray doesn't have enough more storage compared to HD DVD to make HD DVD obsolete. Optical discs need to have more than a 70% increase, according to h...
They would never dare play MP3 on the Wii, because they would realize how inferior the controls on Halo 3 is.
Let them ignore the great graphics the Wii can produce (Mario Galazy is the most beautoful game comming out this year, it appears). Let them ignore all the extras they were begging for. Let them ignore all the games.
Let them miss out on the great experiances the Wii has to offer.
@sajj
What does make a console next gen? My guess is you would just list things that the 360 and PS3 updated but the Wii did not, but I'd still like to know, since you can't use graphics, as the Wii is an update from the GC, and Nintendo even added extras on the Wii. If the 360 and PS3 belong in this gen, why doesn't the Wii?
@sfin
Sure they can. You can play music on a hybrid, and, without proper matenence, it's prone to overheating, like the 3...
What does it have in common with the PS2?
The Gamecube made the PS2 look more like the N64, and 1) no one said the PS2 wasn't agains the Xbox and GC, in spite of its inferior power, and 2) how can it be built like the PS2 when its stronger than the GC, which was stronger than the PS2?
If I still liked him after I saw he was one of the people using video games as a scape goat for all the problems of the world (and I didn't), I sure can't like him after that.
Seriously, I can't stand when people think that the carbon dioxide we produce is a serious danger to the Earth. Maybe when we can match the CO2 outpoot of a volcano, I'll listen, but so long as humans have such a small impact of the amount of greenhouses gasses, I'll ignore and wish to punch people who i...
I never knew someone with ice in their name could burn someone like that.
Oh no, what will we ever do if people who are 17 are playing a game made for 18 year olds! Heaven help us all!
Everyone knows that when you turn 18, your brain suddenly develops in one day and you are then able to play violent video games without killing someone, but someone who's 17 might play the same game and kill someone!
Pfft, really, people need to get over it. It's 1 year, and, really, AO or M should be done away with. You don't see movie ratings for 17...
The more articles like this I read from the bluray camp, the more I consider not buying movies from the bluray exclusive studios, on any format. Consumers lose because of this format war. Consumers lose having to buy higher priced players to watch their movies in HD. Consumers only win after a price war breaks out, and so far, bluray doesn't even feel the need to really lower prices (really, I'm not paying more than $200 to watch a movie in HD).
It's not that I don't have a ...
Those party/super casual/quick to play games tend to really hit the spot in college. Why, I was there last year and the year before, and my GC got more action than anyone's PS2, because of nothing else than SSBM! Class in 15 minutes? Sit down, have a quick round, hurry to class. And you can't beat Mario Party for the nights where there is more time to play.
The 60 hour games only last until the end of high school. After that, you need a game that you can sit down, play, an...
Are you trying to lure Bill Gates here to use his one bubble on this thread, too?
But, yes, its true. But the key to selling something like this isn't making people need it, its making people think they need it.
Bluray isn't a video game console, its a format for movies. And with 60% of PS3 ownders not even knowing about bluray on their console, and only 20% of them caring about it, we should really only put 20% of the PS3 numbers for bluray player sales.
I don't think either format really wants to do a lot of advertising, because I would guess there would be some lawsuits if they didn't tell what studios don't make movies for them, but its too bad they're scared away, since it seems ...
