This. I am a little annoyed by this as well...
But what is funny is during the GC era, all anyone would say is "WHAT THE #$%$# IS THIS CRAP?? I WANT MARIO, NOT LUIGI'S MANSION OR ANIMAL CROSING FMWJFNWFJNJB"... and once Mario Sunshine came out, it changed to "...WHAT. This Isn't Mario!! GIVE ME MAH MARIO!!!!"...

Well, in that Time frame there have been 6 Main Halo games and 3~4 Mainline 3d Mario Games.(depending on where 3d land falls.)
Soon, this will be 7 to 4 with Halo 4 coming out...
Mike, take out all non platforming Mario games. We are talkng Gameplay, not Characters. And freakazoisd, take off LBPK too.(EDIT and what the hell is "prehistoric moves"? Take that off too.)
Mario is a major franchise. And this last gen, he has had several releases. Let's chart them out:
2D Mario: 3 games (NewSMB 1, wii and 2)
3D Mario: 2 (and depending on how you classify it, 3) Galaxy 1 and 2(and 3d Land)

What's funny is the 3ds bashing has, in the long run, helped Nintendo, but the(comparative) coddling of the Vita from many in gaming is keeping Sony from taking the great steps that would really help it.

This i not a new or recent trend in this industry. Several industry workers have been excluded from the credits in games they make, and many have been solid contributors.
And that's just it: Mobile isn't cutting into sales, Mobile is just in a seperate area.(for the most part)
If it was "killing", then the 3ds would have been hurt, but it hasn't. It has, at best, been left untouched and at worst slowed by a factor not worth noting.

No it doesn't. That's like saying the Gameboy player for the SNES made a Gameboy a must have...(or vice versa)
This adds nothing to either console... but also takes nothing away. Why would buying a $250 machine be "Necassary" to enjoy games you have already bought and can play?

And games often start with sale and markdowns at launch. If I had acted quicker, I could have gotten Heroes of ruin for $30 with a pre order on amazon... but as soon as it launched? Back up to $40.

I liked the GBA Metroids quite a bit, and only recently played Super Metroid... hmm...

There are tons of games on xbox that have "achievments" like this...^_^; And I'm sure Playstation has a few as well.
If I remember correctly, one even takes away Gamer Score... or doesn't give any. I forget which.

I personally don't think Sony does have more new Ip's. Combine the First and 3rd party across all regions and game platforms in the past 10 years and it will be much closer than you think, at the very least.
And I don't think stating "mario kart" as a negative in that way(at least that's how it came off) makes sense for your stance, seeing as how One of Sony's "Major New IP's" of this year is a rebranding of a Mario kart look a like...
And they have Bravely default, Fantasy Life, and other strong, new 3rd party IP's incoming for 3ds(in Japan first, of course)
I'm not going to argue with the writer, as I am making this comment before reading the story. But a lot of commenters here need to do some research or back off on this. The stance of "Nintendo has no fresh IP's on their consoles" is untrue. Let it Die already...-_-;;;
I don't know How many times I can keep pointing this out... But having Mario in a game does not make it the same as all other Mario Games.
Are we going to count SSB as a "Mario" game? Is Mario Party suddenly a platformer? We are talking genres here, NOT appearances. Otherwise, LBP is being milked to death with LBP Vita, Karting and Sackboys appearance in Battle Royal all in 1 calendar year.
