You're not missing anything. It's just poor journalism.
man, I hope they use that overhead planning map in-game. It would be even cooler if it was accessible to the higher ranked characters, such as Generals, who could use it to create strategy for the other players.
So much possibility with this game
mmm...Can you imagine this game with Socom: Confrontation graphics and no-lag servers?
Between this and Huxley, SMMO (Super Massively Multiplayer Online) console games are going to kill me.
Throw DC Universe into the mix..dang. :(
hmm..do I detect an arch-nemesis already?
People have to remember, there are two other big game conferences this year---the Leipzig GDC in August and the TGS in October.
To be honest, E3 has become nothing more than a warmup for these other events.
Both MS and Sony's conferences were weak, with MS getting a slight bump because of the FF XIII announcement. Getting past the fanboyism though, it means little considering the game is at least 2 years from its multiplat release thus coming at the end of the 360'...
Umm..Tokyo Games Show? Or the Leipzig Games Conference next month?
The sad fact is, E3 isn't the end-all-be all anymore. Or rather, it's only a part of a larger marketing strategy.
I would be real surprised if we didn't hear something at one of these two shows.
Aside from Gears 2, the only MS exclusive mentioned, what dates did MS give?
As long as I can do Green Lantern-y stuff..I am sold!
does it even matter at this point for the 360? I mean, it could take two years for it to finally release in the US and by 2010's E3 MS could be showing the next Xbox.
It depends on which article you read.
The only place I've seen it mentioned as a simultaneous PS3 and 360 release is in IGNs version of the press conference.
All the other places mention
Japan (PS3)
US and Europe (PS3)
US and Europe (360)
That's kinda my thinking. Just give the real reason. If MS paid a truck load of cash, then say so.
But saying that the 360 is popular in the West, i.e. the US, and discounting the fact that hardware and software sales are even in Europe between both consoles and the generally low sales of JRPGS in the US is just dishonest.
It may affect them in the US, despite the fact that JRPGS sell poorly (see LO and Blue Dragon sales). In Japan, where this game would do the most sales, it's still PS3 exclusive.
In Europe, I see it as a wash. What with both 360 and PS3 almost equal in total units sold.
yeah, Im gonna cry cause the game, and FF versus, is still coming out on PS3.
As per my comment, it was directed at the article's assumption that Sony losing FF XIII exclusivity isn't a bad thing. If Sony survived GTA and DMC coming to the 360, it will survive this. Besides, JRPG's are still a niche market in the US (the majority of the 360 fanbase) and it's still exclusive in the territory where it will do a majority of the sales.
Reading over some of the comments b...
This article had a lot of valid and logical points. As do most of the posters here.
With that said, I sense a disturbance in the force...
360 fanboys' brains crying out in pain. As if a million brain cells died at once.
wow..that's come a long way since the teaser released a while back. Hopefully there is more info coming tomorrow.
@15.1
They aren't releasing it the same day for both consoles. They would have made a point of that in the reveal.
In the SE press event, they even said it was going to be
Japan (PS3)
US-->Europe (PS3)/ Start development on 360
US---> Europe (360)
The "simultaneous" release was meant for Europe and the US, NOT PS3 and 360.
I mean, they still haven't decided how many discs it's going to be on ...
I doubt they are "sony fans." More than anything they are people trying to over dramatize this announcement and stoke the flames, so to speak.
It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even own a PS3 and just like to add to the whole "doom and gloom" predictions coming from this one announcement.
Except for this
"They are "ready to start" developing FF XIII. So first they will complete the PS3 version in Japan, then start a localization for the US and Europe WHILE they start development on the 360 version."
This means this:
PS3 Version (Japan)
PS3 Version (US and Europe)/Start development of the 360 version
360 Version (US and Europe)
The part after, where it says it will be a simultaneous relea...
IMO, nothing MS did today made me excited to own that console. I mean, Aside from the obvious in the FF XIII announcement, Fable and Gears, There was absolutely nothing of note coming out of the gate for MS.
DLC for Fallout? Judging by the content available for Oblivion, I'd put it as a "meh." And to be honest, I wasn't too impressed with Fallout in general. It looked too..stiff in motion.
The exclusive Arcade games and expanded entertainment offerings? ...
Except RE 5...which is coming out in 2009.
