Actually it was. At the end of last year, Take Two claimed that the PS3 was getting L.A. Noire and an unnamed, new IP as exclusives. Yet it was being pushed back to early 2009 in an early 2008 financial report.
However, a few months ago, the bastion of game "journalism," CVG claimed otherwise, saying it was going multiplat. Yet offering no proof. So obviously rampant speculation began.
Im pleasantly surprised they are showing the PS3 version. It has been typical to demo multiplats on the 360.
Regardless, looks good and it seems the UE3 engine is working well for the PS3 version of the game.
If that's true..then I say SE needs to:
Release The Last Remnant on PS3 day and date with the 360 version
Release Star Ocean 4 day and date on both systems
Release Infinite Undiscovery day and date on both systems
Otherwise, this article is BS.
Didn't you know that Sony is the only game company that has to reinvent the wheel for every game and every genre? Otherwise its total fail!
I thought that the last year and a half of great games getting hammered because they didn't do so was evident of this. I mean who needs "too much variety" when you can play a game that took huge steps backwards a la GTA?
//sarcasm off
I kid, but sadly its true.
I am feeling a little better about this game. That didn't look half bad and the animations didn't look as stiff as in the trailer. Even the characters themselves looked better than the trailer.
I do wish someone knew the finishers though, so I could have seen Sub-Zero taking out Superman. Its also too bad that the DC Heroes don't have finishers but I can't complain considering pretty much every other character has one.
If they have Green Lantern in there (any one), D...
I like the contradiction there:
"It's a beautiful game that is the EPITOME of its genre in one tight package."
Yet:
"it's still, at its core, just another FPS."
----------------------------- ------------------
Last time I checked, "epitome" meant taking what's come before and "standing above, the embodiment, and the quintessence" of something.
So how can it be that AND just anothe...
Hopefully Sony learns from this and cuts a check to keep FF versus exclusive. Or does some back room dealings to get a conditional release for the US and Europe.
I'm sorry, but the high road Sony claims won't cut it with MS' infinite check book.
If they really wanted the game, they wouldn't have bought a 360 because, at the time, it was still exclusive to the PS3.
So that's their own fault for buying a system that they knew at the time wasn't even getting FF XIII.
It's like saying I bought a PS3 to play Bioshock when it first came out.
yeah..fanboyism huh? check the profile before commenting.
That'll coincide perfectly with the release of the next xbox. Which will make it's release irrelevant.
Oh yeah, I know Sony owns stock. Heck, I own SE stock..so I gotta give a little thanks to MS for boosting my profits.
The point I was making was that they need to at least be honest in their reasoning instead of saying, "oh we took into consideration total hardware sales blah, blah, blah"
If that was true, then you'd see a consistent strategy concerning all their releases.
yeah but you also have to consider regional tastes and brand loyalties.
In the US, I don't doubt FF will sell more than the NA figures for LO. However, much like GTA, I don't expect it to be a total blowout for the 360 either. In fact, I will go on record and say it will be abour 1.1:1 ratio.
In Europe it will be much different. Sony brand loyalty runs deep and could push massive console sales in all the major countries, with the exception of the UK. In that area, I...
I agree with you to a point, especially concerning the US/Europe being a wash.
However, the game is still exclusive to the PS3 in Japan. A region which the article states represented half of FF XII's sales.
Assuming similar numbers, roughly 7 million total sales, that is still a big gain in PS3 hardware in Japan which could push at least 600,000 consoles in the region. Not to mention a boost in those European countries fiercely loyal to the PS3, such as every country...
I think it will do ok.
What I don't understand is SE logic this gen and their lame a** excuses on their release strategy.
They won't release FF in the US and Europe before the 360 version is done. *cough* MS money *cough*
Yet they have no problem releasing Last Remnant on the 360 first. *cough* MS money *cough*
If their strategy was consistent, they would release it in Japan first for the PS3, cancel the 360 version for the region, then rele...
Look at it this way from a regional standpoint
E3 = US event
Liepzig = Europe Event
TGS = Asian Event
It's possible they're releasing it in that order to give them enough time to cater and upload things for these specific audiences.
I'm sure it is MS and everyone knows of their professional relationship, but why not just say it instead of being so ambiguous with the publisher? It leads to all kinds of speculation.
Also, is that guy who posted on the forum actually who he says he is? I mean, its kinda easy to pose as someone or even hack people's accounts and post things.
I'm not saying that's the case here. It's just odd that they would post it on a forum yet be so ambiguous in a press release....
and we have FF 13 too. In fact, Japanese PS3 owners get it waaaay before its multiplat release. You know Japan...the place where a majority of the games' sales will come from?
Oh MS..it amazes me how you've been in the console game for almost 8 years now and you still haven't learned that buying things doesn't mean an automatic win.
You do realize that in 2 years, when the game may finally see a release outside of Japan (PS3 exclusive and most important area for the game's sales, btw), it won't even matter to MS.
I personally believe MS got the game out of desperation, I mean the logistics behind the release of the game just don't favor MS at all.
However, I will guarantee you that E3 of 2010 will be all about the next Xbox.
Also, you have to realize E3 is not the same "let's blow everyone out of the water" games conference it used to be.
For that, you have Leipzig GDC next month and the Tokyo Game Show in October. It's at the TGS where I suspect we'll see more from Sony Japan.
I dont discount the job posting, except the original rumor was started by Surfer Girl back in March. The reason for Sony stopping the funding was bc of the bad blood between Phil Harrison and the President of Bondi.
But what's this...Phil Harrison is no longer head of Sony. In fact, he left shortly after this supposed breakdown between the two entities.
Also, going to Bondi's website, their job listings now are solely for PS3 artists and animators.
