A bit too arcady...

Several times when I tought I had wrecked my car I had just to drive on... Especially side walls feels too forgiving... (but OK you loose speed)

Interesting: the first dirt path does not really make sense.
I tried to run pass the arrows - kind of worked but put me back on the "correct" track.
I really wonder if we will be able to take even more alternative routes...

DICE mentioned earlier that if you develop for PS3 it will run well on Xbox and PC as well.

The PS3 has lots of CPU power, but you need to feed it with small jobs.

On PC you traditionally divide up your job in a few big threads - that wont work on a PS3... And it won't scale to CPUs with more cores than designed for.

But if you divide up your work in lots of small jobs - it will both work on PS3 and scale to more CPU cores...

I think online passes are OK for the online part (multiplayer) if the game uses dedicated servers.

Why?

Because the alternative is worse! The price could only include the single player. And you were required to pay subscription for each month you play...

Remember that Bluray bandwidth in 1x is bigger

Bluray 1× @ 36 Mbit/s
Bluray 2× @ 72 Mbit/s

DVD 1× @ 10.5 Mbit/s
DVD 16× @ 168 Mbit/s

So a 16x DVD has about twice bandwidth as a 2x Bluray. It is not 8x... as one could have guessed...

There still exists diskless Xbox 360...
- so the install has to be optional on Xbox.

I read that the install was mandatory on the PS3.

Ohh.. and I expect the texture pack to be a lot bigger than a few MB, rather a few GB why else would they need more than one DVD for Xbox?

The SP is also a tutorial.
If you can't handle flare, robots, ...

How would you be able to handle the full experience?

There would be even more complaints if you in the third chapter of SP was put in a jet and assumed you could master it; fly, handle robots, flare, ... all at the same time
- "this is too difficult"

(noticed that I wrote "a big compressed file", I did not intend to mean that resulting textures would be one big texture file. I thought more of a tar file)

I got the impression that RAGEs prebaked models/textures vary on direction.

Maybe the textures are a big compressed file that is uncompressed during install to HD. Thus the install might easily be MUCH bigger than 10 GB even on Xbox 360.

As an example the textures on disk might be JPEG2000 or PNG compressed.

So an install might decompress (and maybe recompress) to a format that the GPU likes.

* Playing the memories (of different solders)

Not really comparable...
- size of maps
(you can play the complete Metro without ever noticing reload)
- number of players (24 v 16?)

And the BF3 video was not really showing off
(first time played? shooting at own team all the time).
No RPGs in the dark... Not taking out any destructible lights...
Very little destruction...

No, I think battlelog has been in the works a lot longer.

What is good:
- server browser, will allow more filtering options
- server side updates, new updates to all can almost be done daily
- clans, and will improve...
- fast, browsing and starting a game is faster than ingame serverbrowsers!

What is bad,
- bugs, mostly how the game-client implements squads. But most bugs are short lived once found...

It like having a Ferrari and a Lamborghini handling exactly the same. Not using there respective strengths but the least common feature.

No you can't go faster than X km/h (mph)
No you are not allowed to accelerate more than Y m/s^2
No you must not take corners that tight

@Ju You are right...

Xbox360 paper (page 78) has an example that confused me - the head clearly cast shadows from each coloured light.

DICE does use "Light Volume Clipping" and might use that at the heads position in the example. But that is too expensive at least on moving objects in MP => proper player shadows only from sun.
