Take a look at the technical keynote on BF3/FB2 _PC_ graphics
In part 2 2:20 "Bloom essential"

This video, five parts, shows how it is supposed to look. It will also show the differences when turning options on or off...

@gaimingdroid
"That said, I think this is more a software bug that EA just needs to flip the switch on. You know
if (is_harddrive == True or is_memory_unit == True) {
install_texture();"
That shouldn't really be the applications concern.
a) Microsoft: A minimum OS layer (even linked to application) should abstract it.
b) Microsoft: Why even add an 4GB SSD that does not behave as an ordinary HD? ...
You are correct, he tweeted later about the mistake.
In the graphics library at DICE they had mockups of all possible enclosures - even those who eventually did not get released...
MoH will continue on the MoH route.
Next year(?) with a battle(field) proven engine.
No need for DICE to go that route...
I do understand the problem with open world single play. You end up in an explosion of possibilities and need to have a really solid AI to make it work. Really going back to war against Bots. Place the opposing force on their positions, patrols, ... And when they spot you, hear you they need to do the correct action. So that you will be pun...
More about upgrading to rotational disks...
(Note information that PS3 40 GB has a very bad disk!)
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
A note on what drives would be suitable to test.
PS3 controller is the first generation of SATA interfaces. Meaning that its transfer speed can not exceed 150 MB/s i.e. there is little need to select the currently fastest SATA out there - go for size instead.
Studying, for examples (there might be other disks out there fitting these requirements even better)
...
I wonder if you can replace the PS3 hard drive with an SSD to reduce search time and rotational latency.

Replace like this

Hmm.. should be possib...
Score should be accompanied by year and month...
It really is a relative scale, and with the release of BF3 a new bar has been set for what 9.5 means!
They are reserving the 10 since they do not really know what will come later this year...
But it will be interesting to see what, if any, games gets a 10 within a few months... (read: weeks)
Easy to tell the difference?
So how much is reality?
Half, One quarter, 10%
@MrBeatdown
The 2GB install size on PS3 is interesting as one multiplayer level would fit...
From Nvidia LAN
"Per multiplayer level
- 200 - 250 MB of streamed object meshes
- 1.3 - 1.5 GB of streamed object textures"
PS3 could use this as a Bluray cache (like RAGE) and get almost full texture resolution from the PC install.
(but it really doesn't as screen resolution on PS3 is limited way below PC...
That fits quite well with information from NVidia LAN
"Per multiplayer level
- 200 - 250 MB of streamed object meshes
- 1.3 - 1.5 GB of streamed object textures"
9*1.5 GB = 13.5 GB
And textures can be compressed on DVD to expand during install. I guess the DVD media on both PC and Xbox limits actual size.
@caperjim - Could you check actual install size?
I am not familiar with Xbox...
- Is that download size or install size?
- What is up with the "Marketplace Content"
Calling second DVD Marketplace sounds strange...
Or is this an update of the second DVD content?
@Son_Lee Your ignorance is noted and forgiven.
The gamerzine article linked to gamestop page where prices were in British Pounds.
One British Pound is 1.57863 Dollar.
Because you can buy BF3 and MW3 for £36,97+£41,97=£ 78,94
Then you return BF3 and get £40,98
Result you get MW3 cheaper for £37,96
(and get to try BF3 for free)
And since MW3 is released after BF3 you may get the refound before money is drawn for MW3... (check the fine print...)
Note: if you forget to send back BF3 or decide to keep it.
Then you pay £78,94
"All this would do is encourage MW3 players to try battlefield"
Yes, exactly! And that is their game plan.
They think that if you try Battlefield there is a good chance that you keep it. And suddenly they have sold both Battlefield and MW3 to gamers who else would have only bought MW3...
And those returned Battlefields might be sold again - they think there will be enough demand for this as well.
They might loose if...
Basic idea was the same.
You do not need highest resolution textures for objects furtest away. What resolution you need for any given object depends on distance from that object.
My understanding of RAGE engine is that they create ONE texture that maps over all visible objects. When you move you load another texture. When you turn you load another part of current texture.
And they reportedly do not have great textures close up...

On PC it is "1.3 - 1.5 GB of streamed object textures" per level. [Nvidia LAN]
There is not required disk speed on PC that I have seen.
So slowest PC disks should be OK => console disks are also OK.
Graphics chips and memory bandwidth might limit the full utilization of this a bit. But I do expect used textures to be bigger (2-3 times) than the chips graphical memory per level... (if not it would be no point in streaming...)
=>...
Future might actually go back to cartridges...
- In the form of flash memories, SDXC capacity is up to 2TB
- Direct download (to flash memories?).
It takes about the same time for me to ride to town, pick up a PS3 game, ride home that it would take to download it (100 Mbps). And if online games would install while downloading...
- Blu-Ray, maybe, prices have come down. But a Blu-Ray player dictates the size and form of the console. Sony will k...
It is interesting that several writers about Battlefield 3 clearly states - got free tickets, rooms, food, and got some goodies with them home... To me it sounds like EA told them to tell!
BTW NRK isn't just some 'Norwegian news site'. NRK is THE media operator in Norway...

I actually think the human error was that some EA employer was lazy,...
BFBC2 Vietnam played a LOT different than plain BFBC2.
BF3 is 13 GB as DLC, my guess is that B2K won't be far off (well it doesn't have SP), since models / textures is what requires space...
