Mantle is a godsend for me in Battlefield 4.
In DX11 I have GPU usage and framerate drops down to 50fps in some instances with my i5 3570k. With Mantle, no GPU usage drops whatsoever, framerate is tons smoother.
Coming from a PC gamer - don't. Enjoy the simplicity of having a simple system and feeding it discs that play without a hitch.
Only if you need something more versatile should you get a PC.
Well, shit.
Maybe it won't be as demanding on the CPU, so Mantle won't really be necessary, but we'll see.
3570k @ 4.2GHz
HD7850 2GB OC
6GB RAM
Everything on Very High (no soft shadows) - God rays on low - they reset to low anyway after turning on eagle vision, plus it's an Nvidia feature, SMAA, HBAO+ (even though it kills performance on AMD cards, it's a huge graphical improvement).
35-40fps in towns. 60fps on the seas.
Could be better, the game demands more than it gives back visually, in my opinion. Still an excellent ga...
It runs much worse on AMD cards though.
This would be the first Final Fantasy I'll ever play if it comes to PC. I've never like the games, but 15 seems different, more hack and slashy.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for MediEvil. Or Syphon Filter. Or Crash Bandicoot.
I don't know.. I want all my childhood games to return!
But with OpenGL and Mantle you can get all the eye candy DirectX11 has without the serious performance impact draw calls make on the CPU under DX11.
I'm all for Mantle and OpenGL taking the reins. DirectX11 is bloated.
I think they should improve DirectX to stay competitive on the PC market. It is their proprietary API and compared to Mantle and OpenGL when it comes to draw calls it's an absolute piece of crap.
I mean come on Microsoft. DirectX11 is the bottleneck in PC gaming. Get it right!
It's hard imagining anything beating Battlefield 4 when it comes to sound. Graphics, perhaps, console exclusives have always been gorgeous whatever they're on.
We'll see, but don't freaking hype things up if you can't deliver.
Reserve your judgement until we actually see anything from The Order 1886.
It's still decently long. Definitely longer than MGS:GZ.
10-15$ should be nice.
1080p lolz
I'm joking. My only wish is that Gears of War returns to PC again, but that's out of the question now isn't it..
It's true, the latest patch improved performance either way. Nearly all maps run perfectly fine now, 60fps +.
Mantle should improve it even more for me, if only AMD would release the driver..
Ok
It's for all CPUs. Not just low end ones.
It lowers driver overhead on the CPU and improves draw calls, which are the main reason why Battlefield 3 and 4 are very CPU intensive.
Technically, it should basically remove draw call based CPU bottlenecking irrelevant of the CPU you have.
Call of Duty Titanfall!
By the way, I'm a proud owner of an i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz and some maps are so demanding in Battlefield 4 that it can't even fully use an overclocked HD7850. I have pictures as proof.
Try overclocking the 9590 if you ever get the chance. I dare you.
I'm more worried about it requiring new hardware instead of software.
