I wish there was more visibility into what's really happening. I hate to see hard-working people get screwed over for the sake of a businesses bottom line. I work for a software company and I see it all the time. My team has taken hits because even though release dates were hit the internal deliverables slipped, and not always because of something my team could have controlled.
I just hope that the people at Infinity Ward have a contract that outlines the terms of payment...
It's the same reason that existing Wii owners picked up a black Wii or existing fat PS3 owners picked up the resdesigned Slim model. Some people just like having the latest and greatest.
Some people see it as a free week's rental.
That's true. There's a huge misconception that rental outlets pay the standard retail price for games and then rent them to the point where they make extreme profits. But that's not the case at all. Rental outlets operate under different licensing rules than consumers and they typically pay either a large up-front cost to purchase the games or they have to give publishers a cut of the rental fee.
If Epic doesn't publish the games they develop I could see them ...
Publishers don't want to admit it, but they are at least partially responsible for the used game market being what it is today. Not every game that is released with a $60 price tag is worth $60. There are lots of games I won't pay $60 for because they aren't worth it to me, but there are a ton of games I would pay $40 for because they are worth that much to me.
I don't buy the argument that royalties are quartered if a game changes hands 4 times. There's a...
If the deadlines were indeed met and Activision didn't pay the bonuses then I would certainly sue. But this article makes it sound as if people were expecting bonuses whether they met their deadlines or not. I'm sure I'll get a ton of flack for this, but at every company I've ever worked for bonuses were dependent upon meeting performance milestones. If you don't hit the date, you lose the bonus.
I hope that the folks at Infinity Ward get what they deserve...
Doesn't it remind you of how exciting is to get a new toy? I love getting stuff home and unpacking it!
Wouldn't it be great if you guys could discuss the article and not go into EVERY.SINGLE.STORY to argue about which fanboys are worse and why the OTHER console sucks? I don't know why you all argue over who the problem is. All of you are the problem. Damnit.
I wonder if the consoles that are being returned to the distributor will be sent to other outlets to be sold at a reduced retail price? I can see retailers who don't sell electronics or video games as one of their core product lines not wanting to carry multiple Xbox 360 SKU's, That just causes confusion and takes up costly retail space. So gathering them from places in the supply chain where they may not move and sending them to places where they will move makes a lot of sense. But o...
Those little SD-sized carts that Nintendo uses have to be super-cheap to manufacture by now, so I could see them sticking with something like that for their portables. As paranoid as Nintendo is I doubt they would trust a full digital distribution model, either.
Most of my favorite games this year are on the PS3. Great list!
Say what you want, but you don't see anyone in that article bashing PS3. Not every game on the list is an exclusive to the PS3, people are just talking about their favorites. That alone speaks for itself.
Somehow I knew this would be a rehash of the tired old argument over the definition of exclusive. The typical flaming, the typical trolling. Some people sure do get their feelings hurt because someone else didn't pick their console of choice.
If people can afford only one console and their choice was the 360 then they did have some really good games to play in the first half of 2010. Doesn't matter whether they are exclusive or multiplat, because they only have one co...
I keep picking it up when I go to the store, but I never buy it. I enjoyed the demo, but I could never bring myself to buy the game. Since it's only like $20 now I don't know what I'm waiting for.
It's funny that you say without online play there's nothing to do on a console. I can count on one hand the number of times I've used online features of any of my consoles in the last year. Yet they constantly provide me with fun gameplay day after day.
If you can't have fun with your consoles without online play either you're playing the wrong games or you're just doing it wrong.
I have friends on the $8 per month plan. I have friends that pay $20 for 3 months. Sometimes I'll grab a one month card if I get a new game just to play with friends for a few days.
My point is that there's no easy math to use to back into an actual number of actual Gold members.
I'm sure you'll get beat up over it, but you're right. Bubbles up!
Sony definitely tried to make a power play by letting people play online for free, but it sure didn't make much of a dent in Xbox Live. Live proves that people are willing to pay for what they perceive as a value added service.
The downside is that as long as Live keeps raking in the cash online gaming will never be free there. But you can usually find Live 12 month cards for ...
Well, considering a used BC-capable 60GB PS3 goes for $349 at Gamestop and still has a larger feature set than a new 120GB slim PS3, I'd say that trading it could be considered a downgrade if you use those additional features. But better still to sell it outright.
I use the PS2 backward compatibility on my 60GB model all the time, and using the 4 USB ports to charge various devices like iPods while I'm playing games is nice. So upgrading would be a downgrade for me. I...
I see that you're a contributor. Why not go find some yourself instead of complaining about what's been approved? If you're not up to it then remember, it takes less effort to not read what you're not interested in than it does to post about how uninterested you are.
Yep. And it's always the "other" side, which makes it even funnier.
