God of War won't come close to 7 million. Hack 'n slash doesn't have as much widespread appeal as FPS or RPG. Even with a 100 million install base God of War 2 barely crossed 2.5 million copies.
It's going to be a very successful game, but it won't appeal to the vast majority of owners. No game really does.
I don't have a normal standard of proof link, but at the beginning of this generation there was a lot of talk that 500,000 units was the break-even point for the average game. That would be $30 million USD in total revenue for the game if it sold at $60 USD.
Considering the extremely small margin that retailers get I'd imagine that if $20-$25 million of that made it back to the developer and publisher that bankrolled the game after the supply chain siphon that the number would s...
As you can see, the fanboy element is very strong here.
Can't speak for Killzone 2 as I don't play shooters. But I bought LBP day one. Both have sold well over 2 million units, so I'd call that successful.
You know, I don't recall anyone saying that PS3 exclusives don't sell. I think pretty much everyone would agree that PS3 exclusives are the best selling games on the PS3. If anything multiplats seems to struggle on the PS3.
Ernice Gilbert seems to be somewhat insecure.
So apparently this little boy should never look down in the shower, because he'll see something that no child should ever see.
Spot-on Arius. Bubbles for you. Bashing on Wii for the sake of bashing on it is just ridiculous. People just have hurt feelings because Nintendo is back on top after being bested by Sony for the last two generations and the "hardcore" just can't handle it.
You don't move the numbers Nintendo has by accident. They're selling what people want.
Seriously? When has Mario ever been considered hardcore? Zelda? This stuff comes from the mind of Shigeru Myamoto. Is that the first name you think of when you think "hardcore"?
Nintendo is the same company that wouldn't allow blood in games on the SNES. Sweat flew in Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Nintendo has never been at the forefront of what people here would consider "hardcore".
The 360 has been on the market for 4 years. It has never had built-in wireless. We all know it probably should have been there, but it isn't. Time to get over it and move on.
For those that want to take advantage of the speed of their 802.11n router maybe having the adapter be a separate device wasn't such a bad idea. The MSRP is too high, in my opinion, and should retail for no more than $50. A reasonable price for a higher quality adapter these days. But to keep moaning after 4...
I haven't seen anyone say that the PS3 is too expensive since the last price drop.
You know, I think calling casual gaming a niche market is a gross mischaracterization. Niche markets tend to be small and focused. "Hardcore" gamers aren't the people buying 60 million Wii's and 100 million DS systems. It's the folks in this casual niche market you talk about.
Looking at the footprint of the PS3 and 360 compared to the Wii, considering the people who initially bought PS3's as Blu-ray players and people who bought Arcade 360's, don't you think that maybe...
Um, did you own a NES? Because I did and that console had more shovelware than the Wii. Sure, most here are too young to remember that, but the only thing Nintendo's seal of quality stood for then was that developers paid Nintendo to publish their games. If they refused to pay there was no seal of quality. Brave developers like Tengen called BS on Nintendo and their sham, reverse-engineered the lockout chip and delivered the quality.
There was quite a bit of crap on the SNES, N64...
Yep. This guy says that the "hardcore" have been betrayed by Nintendo and that they won't buy the next console. But he's wrong. There will be crazy lines and demand for the next one as long as it doesn't come too soon. Nintendo never marketed the Wii as a "hardcore" (what a lame term) machine. The very first television commercials were of families and old people playing video games with two Japanese guys in a Smart car.
Give me a break! Nobody was sold a bill ...
I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 2 as well. I might pick of God of War III, but I'll rent it first. I've never been a fan of hack 'n slash games, but everyone seems to think that God of War is the genre defining game. So I'll at least try it.
Heavy Rain and Yakuza 3 for me, thanks.
Gotta agree with the idea, though. Both the launch 360 and the launch PS3 throw off enough heat to warm a small room.
Bubbles for you. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on the controller part. The console ships with a wireless controller. If you buy a play and charge kit it comes with a battery pack, so you don't need the second one you list. So right off the top your list of must-haves is reduced by two items and more than $60.
Arcade models now come with flash-memory on-board. Older ones shipped with a memory unit. You never had to buy that. Elite models come with a hard drive. You don't need to buy that....
I don't think Microsoft lost as much trust as people might think. I would wager that for the majority of 360 owners affected by RROD it was a minor inconvenience. For me it was. I was without my console for 10 days. Quick and painless and everything's been fine since.
Personally, I think that because Microsoft owned up to the problem and fixed it for free that they gained more trust from their customers. It's pretty rare you see a company admit a mistake like that and pony up a ...
Not sure I understand what you're saying.
