Right, sites like metacritic and gamerankings only become somewhat reliable once they have 10+ reviews to "smooth" out extreme reviews.

I did not disagree with you but there is one large looming risk. If you look at the Wii, most non-Nintendo games got awful reviews because they are seen for what they are, gimmicky waggle games. The Nintendo games get away with a lot more because of nostalgia and stardust in the eyes. Microsoft here would have to start new IPs or get ports of Wii 3rd party games to start, that's going to be a uphill battle.

Nobody agreed with you yet so I did. Even if the 360 has a niche only market in that of hardcore gamers, it's a nice market to have and should be sufficient to keep the Xbox brand alive. Diluting it with wannabe-wii attempts could back fire. If anything, I thought the 360 could use a new controller but not a waggle-remote, they should make a lightgun controller (like the guncon) and that would offer better aiming for FPS games. Yes the wiimote can aim but it doesn't feel as nice (gun-like...

I agree, I think it's about time for somebody to step up and offer a new OS alternative for consumers. Linux had its shot and just couldn't take off with regular customers. Google is market savvy enough not to make the same mistake and would package it and advertise it better. One can always dream :)

@6.2, sorry you misunderstood, Midway spent >30M on Stranglehold! I played it so I feel free to judge it. (I edited my post above)

As for Killzone 2, I haven't played it yet obviously so I won't make a judgment on it and I also don't know how much Sony is spending on it.

Exactly, I thought that for all the millions $$$ (> 30M) Midway sunk in that game (Stranglehold) that the outcome was disappointing and the sales agree. So why make a sequel, they want to loose more money?

Please don't take this the wrong way Decapitator, you're a great contributor to this site but maybe you should review your overall submission process. I've never seen a contributor changing linked stories on the fly as much as you do.

Very long read, that guy Morgan Gray sounds pretty sharp. I really like this part:

Multiplayer: Speaking of what people take away from things, the “Resident Evil 5″ trailer. Have you seen it?

Gray: Yeah! Absolutely not racist. Zombies in Haiti? Hmm. I think they’re gonna be brown. If we were going to do a zombie game in China: wow, a lot of Chinese zombies. I think it’s just the “Here’s the bunch of people that are primitive,” which is actually the elephant in the r...

Innovation and quality requires skill and caring.

Without enough of the above, they try to compensate by leveraging assets ($$$) and just crank out the quantity instead.

The article didn't have a price estimate.

Edit: Ok, after a brief search it's actually on Sony's website (sonystyle) and it's $399.99. Great technology but price makes it unattractive for now.

I don't live there so I don't know, but that article is from a Canadian source, maybe that's how much it is there? At the begining they also mentioned a $279 Wii when it's $250 in the US. So I'm guessing these are not US prices.

You can see my comment below, I believe this lawsuit is silly and without merit.

However the ones to blame are Apple's lawyers to have let the company believe they had any chance of winning this. The logos barely look alike besides the fact that they are both inspired by apples.

In page 2 they show both logos, they are different enough that there is no doubt that Apple will loose. A company like that should know not to go against a public organization (city) unless their claim was bulletproof.

In the end, because of the end product, the effect could be quite the opposite than what they are preaching. If MS takes over Yahoo in a hostile fashion, I could see the following happening:

Before take over:
Google : 66%
Yahoo : 20%
MSN : 5%
ASK.com : 4%

After take over:
Google : 84%
MSN-Yahoo : 6%
ASK.com : 5%

@9.1, very good point. Having the lion share of the market because people have un-oppressed choices and choose the best product is not the same as a monopoly enforced using illegal business tactics to limit competition.

6513d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

At the end of the article they state "Microsoft itself has argued that a takeover of Yahoo is necessary to prevent Google from establishing monopolies"

Best LOL moment I had in a while.
I mean the irony here is hilarious.

Search engine:
Google : 66%
Yahoo : 20%
MSN : 5%
ASK.com : 4%

Computer OS:
MS Windows : 91%
Apple Mac : 7%
Linux : 0.6%

Now where is the monopoly again?

You bring up a lot of good points.

Like you mentioned some movie downloads are already available. However there is a lot of difference in quality between all of them. In the near term DD compete most with DVD rental; for people who upgraded their TVs to medium to large HDTV (a minority but growing minority), Blu-ray is now the only way to go.

6514d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I agree. I understood why MS did not include HD-DVD with the original 360. However when they failed to include it in their Elite redesign, I knew that was the turning point and went Blu-ray and never looked back.

A lot of people are saying that Warner's announcement was the turning point but I disagree. Not including HD-DVD in the Elite was the turning point, the Warner announcement was just the final nail in the coffin.

@3.1 I hear you :)

My comment was more meant however that in business, changing partners is par for the course.
