Agreed. A slim 360, cooler, quieter, RROD-free and a good size HDD, then I would get another one.
That was funny Cbaoth. The important thing is not to invite them in... hey that works for vampires and take-overs... :)
I agree, while not everyone likes Bay's movies, at least he is a professional. To stoop down to Boll's level would take that away and his career could suffer for it. In Hollywood, perception counts for a lot.
Agree with you both, if it came to motion control only, I would either go back to PC gaming or find a new hobby altogether.
I see two other possible reasons for that:
1) to make more money by charging twice
2) because the creature creator is the only part truly finished so far
The hype train sure seems to have a lot of steam left. Don't get me wrong, I think the Wii and it's accessories are a nice toy, but it's over-hyped compared to the reality (and yes, I have one). It reminds me of Furbies and Tickle-me-Elmo (as far as hype is concerned).
This article is actually not far from the truth, for those that actually read it.
Consider 2 markets: one focused on violent and mature rated games, one focused on younger and casual players. Each console has some games in each market but the ratio differs. The PS3\360 are focused more on the violent\mature games and the Wii is focused more on younger\casual games.
What I think the author is trying to say is that if someone bought a Wii and only a Wii and expects to...
@ 1.1
Theoretically speaking, if an association of all the major companies came together, drafted and all agreed on the basic specifications and design on a gaming console, thus making a reference design. Then each manufacturer would be free to build and manufacture their own console based off that design, then you would have competition while having a unified design at the base. This would be like Blu-ray where an association made the specs but each vendor make their own player...
I'm not sure why these articles keep popping up about wanting a unified console. In this case of this article, the writer basically wants this console to be a PC in disguise in the living room, using downloads only and with all other console makers leaving the market. Sounds more like somebody paid to promote a certain corporate vision. It has many disconnects with reality.
To compensate, they should release some good footage of actual gameplay (no cut-scenes, or very little).
I play games as a mean of entertainment (fun) that is more interactive than movies and also to provide momentary respite (as in fantasy world) from the mundane day to day work life.
The greatest thing about achievements is that they are optional. People that love them have them and people that don't care about them can ignore them. For others like me, I care about them some just when it's a game I really enjoy and the achievements have been well designed, otherwise I'm not addicted to them.
I agree. This game is my best gaming surprise of the year, did not expect the single player game to be this fun.
Ubisoft is so much like EA nowadays.
Agree with 1.8, as a multiple console owner I had to ponder these factors. In the end while one records achievements they both offer the same actual gameplay out of the box. I'm on my 3rd 360 so keeping this console alive to play true exclusives is more important than points in a gamerscore. PS3 version for me.
Shovelware comes out when a system is successful, shovelware does not make a system successful.
As for the argument saying that shovelware bring in new gamers; I would add the opposite possibility and say that a new gamer who gets taken and whose first experience happens to be shovelware might get turned off about gaming or at least a console.
@3.2 Some might consider Bioshock an American RPG since you had some control over how to allocate power up points. It also had some choices that influenced the story some. So maybe it could be added to your list next to Oblivion and Mass Effect.
Apparently they agree, those two announced games are for the DS.
While the article just said RPG, when you read it what is actually implied is JRPG - Japanese RPG.
There's also American RPG (FPS gameplay with some RPG elements), Strategy RPG (grid movement with the rest being standard RPG), Action RPG (real-time button smash combat with some RPG elements).
Based on your list count, I think you included all the RPG styles. And I don't disagree, I enjoy all of them.
The author is right though that there are not a lot ...
Well, it's good that the rumor is finally killed although... I find their wording to be interesting. They specifically say "for the Xbox 360". So maybe these misquoted Chinese vendors are really bidding for MS next console...
