Is the AI not managed by the servers? I remember downloading the beta and the crack and it only allowed you to run around with no enemies, this was also LATE in the beta.
Also, I'm fairly sure that all chracters and items are tracked by the server. Not by a save file on your computer, I fail to see how Blizzards "Ineffective" DRM is going to allow for duping or third party selling of items with this kind of system in place.

The Battlefield example is weak, Skill and a real competitive scene never existed for BF. The perks for the vehicles were more or less game breaking to those who joined later, the jet is almost useless without the upgrades.

Dunno what you've heard but Diablo isn't exactly always easy. The later difficulties just make the game silly eventually....point is, Diablo is a far more difficult game then Champions of Norrath or Dark Alliance.
Yeah because Hellgate: London was a real treat and Torchlight wasn't a cartoony family friendly looking version D1/D2. GET A GRIP.

They barely changed the visuals between D2 and D3. We must be playing different games.
If D3 is bad then the original Torchlight is awful.
My girlfriend recently played through a portion of D2, she enjoyed it a lot. We then finally got to actually play D3 yesterday and she still enjoys it. The gameplay is more or less intact, the monk is also super satisfying to play. Whiners, are whiners.
Also, the Online only is definitely in part caused by how god AWFUL the D2 community was. D2 proved more then any other online game that people can never be trusted and that people will abuse anything that can be abused.
I agree that Valve releases their games on the consoles for profits and other marketing related stuff that comes with releasing on those platforms.
But it's pretty untrue that Valve needs the consoles to create acceptable sales for their games. The PC version of HL3/EP3 will absolutely still be the best version, and it will still be the lead.

You got that right, they sell enough copies of the base game to at least bolster the MP game with some free map packs. What's unfortunate is they used to do that on the PC (CoD4/WaW) before they found a way to monetize it.
I really think these free 1v1/2v2 maps aren't necessarily a slap in the face, but a really weak show of love to those who enjoyed CoD in 2003 and a weak show of faith to newer gamers who may have started gaming because of peers wanting them to play ...
