A tech demo was what I expected. However what I got was much more of a game.
No Man's Sky has way too many gameplay pillars to be considered a tech demo. They might not be as great or deep as people thought they would be, but a tech demo it is not.
And what other company would have made this game that no one has ever made before? Hello Games has done something unheard of, maybe it wasn't up to the quality everyone expected, but they did this. With...
I really don't get the whole "We were promised features" argument. There was never any promise of features. All the lists of so called missing features is taken from dissected interviews made during development. They do not reflect a sales pitch for a finished product. This is the same for every game. Why all of a sudden do people care so much that the game did not turn out exactly like it was perceived to?
I think the reason is two fold.
N...
Again. Nothing in that article is misleading when it comes to gameplay features. The fact that you guys seem to think that it does, tells me that you guys have bought into the hype and aren't actually reading/listening to what Sean was saying.
And you should only buy the games you want to play, and if you are so afraid for downgrades then stop preordering and by after release. However you guys should really stop expecting games to be identical to vertical slices shown ...
There were no announcements of what would specifically be in the game. Most of the so called "missing" features are from Sean's high concept talk, which were done in interviews early in the games development. This is not, and never was, considered an announcement.
But yea, I agree. This might set a very bad precedent for the gaming industry. All these gamers crying wolf think they are setting an example of the studios and publishers, but what they are really s...
I was so sure Ready at Dawn made it. Oh well. I guess I stand corrected. I blame the fact that it was a spin-off then. Thats why I skipped it.
@Orionsangel
I am so sick and tired of people using AngryJoe to somehow prove a point. He is and idiot? and I have a hard time taking anyone that takes him seriously, seriously.
If you have an argument to make. Make it, don't post links to videos of stupid people talking themselves in circles hoping to confuse people until they believe what they are saying.
New normal? This has been the normal since the beginning of the gaming industry. People always create bigger expectations than a property deserves. I used to do it with 50% of releases myself. Then I learned. Now everytime I get hyped I ask myself:
Are you hyped from what you are actually seeing?
Or are you getting hyped for the possibility of what you can do in that game you are watching a video of.
90% of the time it's the latte...
Which lies exactly?
He said that because every planet in No Man's Sky is procedurally generated. And with the variables Hello Games used they had the potential 18 quintillion or so combinations of planets.
The people that thought that meant 18 quintillion vastly different planets clearly don't understand how procedural generation work. Basically if you have 2 identical planets and you change 1 thing, 1 tiny thing, on one of them. You effectively have 2 different variations.

I am sorry, but I just reread that article/interview and it features almost no talk about actual gameplay, in fact it is mostly a rehash of much older interviews. And the few gameplay aspects that do get talked about is multiplayer, which Sean says is unlikely to happen.
The only outright lie in it is that the planets orbit the sun, which has pretty much Zero impact on gameplay. Why the planets aren't orbitting a sun I don't know, but you people are overreacting.

I think many people skipped Ascension because it was a spin-off not made by Santa Monica Studios.
If you followed it that closely, then your expectations should have been lowered.
After the initial VGA Hype the word around the game dulled, then when the second wave of hype came from the E3 Showing - What was everyone talking about again? All the articles and blogs and commentators.
Oh yea, about how the game would be a game without actual "gameplay" and without anything to do other than go from one planet to the next. Anyone that "real...
Yes. The Guy that quoted "The Bible" further up in the comments is going to talk to us about how No Man's Sky is indoctrinating people.
@maniacmayhem
Every interview I saw with him, he tried to downplay the hype. Saying stuff like "this is not a game for everyone" "this is a game about solitary exploration" "I really just made this game for me" etc. etc.
At one point he even talked about how one of the reasons they stopped doing press was because everytime he opened his mouth the hype train got bigger and bigger, and how everytime this happened the most minis...
Yes just like how he on all those occassions kept saying. The multiplayer in this game is unlikely, yet the biggest headlines after it's release was "There is no multiplayer, Hello Games lied to us!". Or how when the first pre-release player made it to the center in about 30 hours the headlines said "Someone made it to the center in 30 hours, Hello Games lied to us!" yet Sean has been quoted saying the fastest way to the center would take about 30 hours.
A lot of people in this comment section do not understand the concept of inflation.
I have personaly tried both with and without gsync. Game seems to run smoother with it enabled on my rig. Just saying, this is not a universal solution.
Terrible article. Not worth the click.
@TheOptimist
I dare you to get 1000/1000 or Plat any of the arkham games and then call it easy.
It is not without reason that Arkhams combat system has been praised to the level it has. The genius of the system is exactly how easy it is to start using, yet how hard it is to master. Basically an attempt to make it enjoyable no matter what skill level you choose to play it at.
You might say something along the lines of; "but it'...
There is a big difference between graphical disparities and missing features. There is no feature explicitly promoted in the trailer. It just shows pre-release gameplay. It's an old trailer. Besides most trailers and screenshots look better than the actual game. This can be due to fancy editing, but also often due to the rendering set up of the trailer.
Does the game looks as good as it does in those trailers and screenshots? Most of it times it probably doesn't, T...
