And Mario.
And Zelda (to a slightly lesser extent).

Let's come back in 200 years, see if Sony is still around.
It sounds stupid, right?
All successes are temporary.

Nintendo was actually worth more than Sony back in 2014 as well. I think the whole Wii U vs PS4 sales thing kinda kept them above Nintendo, but this has tipped it.

Nope.
Microsoft > Nintendo > Sony
Or based solely on the gaming devisions it's more like
Nintendo > Playstation > Xbox

Edit: Talking profitability, not brand value.
@disagrees this is a fact as of Pokemon Go's release.

Like anything succeeding isn't a short term success. Hell, look at PS2 to PS3. Short term success.

Nintendo also bought something like 30% shares in Niantic.

All things considered Nintendo probably gets around 50%, which is still a crap ton of money.

@wonderfulmonkeyman
Agreed, definitely a flop for Sony. Pokemon GO probably makes that amount in 2 days despite being a free mobile game.

Hey, Pachter said something sensible about Nintendo.

NX confirmed failure /s

Okay few problems with your post.
It's not literally luring children into vans with candy.
Free entertainment is the only entertainment you can be sure will have ads, otherwise it wouldn't exist.
Nintendo is a business, capitalising on success by this kind of thing isn't whoring out. Businesses make money, they're not a charity.

You can also inject them to the Wii U virtual console, although this process isn't permanent and the games will disappear when you turn the console off.

3619d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Hahaha. Nintendo wouldn't abandon consoles if the Wii U had sold 1 million.

Pokemon as an IP is fully owned by Nintendo. Niantic, the makers of this game are roughly 30% owned by Nintendo, the Pokemon company is also roughly 30% owned by nintendo, although Nintendo has a large amount of stock in the other companies that co-own the Pokemon company. At least I'd say Nintendo is making around 40-50% of the profits.

I hope the Gamepad is still supported (assuming that the NX doesn't already have a similar controller) because I love off-tv play.

This is underwhelming? Pokemon go is everywhere. I've NEVER seen a game catch on like this in my entire life. Wherever I look I see people playing it. It's amazing. This amount is only going to increase for the next few days at least as the app continues to launch in more different countries and the user base grows.

Pokemon Go is number 1 on the Australian app store, so I guess this article is now out of date?

3624d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Jeez, so many people unhappy with the direction they're taking the game. Maybe if they go into the game without such pessimism they will actually come out having enjoyed their time with it?

I think it looks like a really fun and colourful game, even if it's not the game people want.

I don't think something not happening counts as news?

I could be mistaken, though.

3625d ago 7 agree8 disagreeView comment

Agreed, many legitimate comments seem to be getting hidden as inappropriate (even though they mostly have positive like : dislike ratios) whilst comments hating on the game and Nintendo are being left (when they have very negative like : dislike ratios).

This basically is, except the map is the entire world.

If the change is good then it'll stick, else it will be seen as a gimmick and disappear within a generation or two. Change in general is always good, because you can't get the good without some of the bad.
