I think the success of Pokemon Go proves that the fans still exist, but they won't just buy into something that they don't have good reason to. If the NX is an attractive then the fans will sprout up again just like they did with Pokemon Go.
This is great news! I hope their amiibo business continues to prosper, as it's the only toys-to-life approach that I think isn't a rip off.
Did you read the article? On windows, android, iOS and apple tv the game is online only. Every figure they've bought, all the DLC, all the levels they've made, all their progress, all wasted.
This is why I'll always hesitate before buying any game that is online only.

Yep, I'm in the same boat as you. It's actually heartbreaking being on the outside of all this stuff when I've always been more of a fan of this kind of stuff than my friends (who are all playing Pokemon Go).

Certainly when it's appropriate. Games like Mario could even benefit from more stylisation as their art has been getting a little bit stale recently.
