You already can't play DVDs or Blurays on the Wii or Wii U.
$30 will get you a 64 gigabyte SD card that does both read and write, and you are a consumer, not a company buying up hundreds of thousands of these cards.
At most I'd say a read only card would cost Nintendo $5 for 32 gigabytes, more than enough for most games.
Price difference is negligible these days, especially with read-only storage. And the benefits are immense, much faster loading, no need to install to hard-drive, no scratches, much stronger console because it'll have one less moving part to fail, also a much more energy efficient console since it doesn't have to spin the disk. Potentially you could have a console with no moving parts, which could last many times longer than present consoles.
Or they could have a higher capacity cartridge, as has been done with every other cartridge based console. They'll choose the smallest possible capacity, I doubt 32GB would ever be a maximum size.
I don't think many people realise that read only solid state storage is much much cheaper than read and write, so comparing current SD card prices is a bit unfair.
True, and people are in no position to claim the console will fail, either.
The DS wasn't meant to replace the GameBoy either, yet it did.
Hey we don't know anything about the console, it could be the next PS2.
I'd love to play them at 10 frames per second with graphical glitches galore on the $2000 PC that I don't own ;).
Eh, the Wii U didn't change much. I'm just glad it has great games and free online :)
If the NX has paid online then I'm done with consoles.
I care about the NX? Why wouldn't you care about a new console, especially if they fix their mistakes?
All these Wii U haters smdh.
I don't think they need new IP, a few new games and some trailers for a new IP or two should be enough.
kool. Me too, my uncle works for Nintendo.
Oh god no.
What.
Monolithsoft have actually helped the Zelda team out in previous Zeldas, such as Skyward Sword, so I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda Wii U surpassed Xenoblade Chronicles X technically.
Well it's good that they have a reward system, they didn't need to do that, but 6 months is still a little too short. I'm a Nintendo fan too. Maybe they could leave the platinum coins at lasting 6 months, but the gold coins (which you get from buying stuff) should at least last a year, IMO.
Woah I thought they said they were done with updates? This is great. Thanks to Nintendo for continually updating this game when they had no obligation to.
No, I'd say it reveals a company in transition.
