The casual gamer has made the Ps2 the success it is.
The casual gamer has made the Wii the success it is.
Forget not the causal gamer
PS
Pls Sony, develop a Play-mote and game(stripped down Killzone1 would be cool) to be used on the Ps2 just to test the technology. You'll probably get some good sales as well further extend the life of the Ps2.
Then you can bring the Play-mote to the Ps3 or Ps4.
If Acer is intending to remove the license fee for developers by putting Windows/Vista on it then think again. Microsoft gets alot of its revenue through licencing.
The GameOS will be an Open Source(unix based like Mac OSX or Linux). There's no licensing fee. Using OpenGL, all Acer then needs to do is optimize a Unix or Linux distribution for a minimum h/w specs and add in a great UI.
Then they can focus on convincing the multiplatform game developers like Ubisoft...
Sony does know a thing or two but they've also been slow catch onto the obvious or been dragging their feet - the casual gamer, the PC console not just the entertainment centre, the Wii mote, matching the competition with net service and ingame functionality.
Acer will likely fail due to the fact they don't have the support of game developers....unless they can convince developers to port games to an Open Source GameOS. Now, if Acer can do this then Sony, Ninetindo and Microsoft...
Acers is essentially promoting a standard PC Console FORMAT
Fixed minimal hardware specs:
* min CPU
* min GPU
* min Ram
* min HDD
* wireless/blue tooth
* An open source(unix based) GameOS using OpenGL
All games would be optimized for the minimal hardware specs.
This is what Sony should do with the Playstation Brand. Then companies like Acer, Toshiba, lenovo etc can all make their own models of Playstations - at ...
I'm now only interested in Sony - or Microsoft - developing a better version of a wii-mote.
I want to play GeoW2, Haze, R2, KZ2, BF:BC, Farcry 2 with a PLAY-MOTE or X-MOTE with lightning fast targeting with motion control(just as fast a mouse).
The next gen games are there and coming. NOW we need the next gen controllers.
Why should the casual gamers of the Wii be the only ones to enjoy the future of controllers?
70% is just too high
But I'm sick of the quality issues with the xbox 360. Microsoft should have got it right from the start instead of getting that year head start.
Luckily I just do short stints on my 360, but it's always in the back of my mind that this will be the day that it'll break.
That early release is and will be a serious thorn in the side to Microsoft. And if they were a half-decent company worth supporting, they'll fix it.....
...
Here in New Zealand there's been no price cut as we just have one SKU
We went from a NZ$1200 60G ps3 to a NZ$800 40G ps3.
The only price cuts are happening internationally where there are two SKUs and involves only the 60/80 Gig ps3.
So you keep on dreaming about the desperation of Sony and reconsider why Microsoft is lowering its xbox 360 prices. Cough, cough....desperation.
Sony will go about its normal functions as a world class hardware...
will the AAA titles affect Ps3 sales but they will quickly wane.
That's what I'm predicting.
Problem is the Wii completely appeals to the CASUAL gamer on price and gameplay(fun & unique).
The AAA titles appeal to more hard core gamers and therein lies the problem.
Casual gamers - not hardcore gamers - are the reason the Ps1 & Ps2 have done so well....and why the Wii is doing likewise.
Sony really needs to:
...
seems you forgot to mention the link in the article showing Ps3 sales outsold xbox 360 sales in the USA in January.....xbox home territory.
hmmmmmmmmm? suspicious....directed at you elitegamer.....and your motives.
But now Sony has to...
* develop a fast & optimized Unix/Linux based Operating system(like Mac OS X) and preinstall it on the Ps3. Then Sony will have a Trojan horse like with BD to start to challenge MS Vista in the OS market once Sony OS is ported to PCs.
* develop a better version of the Wii-mote....the Play-mote.
@Mclovin96
PC games sales has been in the minority for years of total games sales. And...cough, cough...how many PCs do we have in the world....the entire world?
http://www.joystiq.com/2008...
Consoles of various sorts have always have been dominant.
You're likely one of the dying old breed of gamer who believes a true gamer is a PC gamer...needed biggest b...
Your fanboy comments should be in the open section not here.
GeoW2 will clearly do better sales than R2 due to its large dominant FPS fanbase on the xbox 360. And of course, you knew - NOT! - that the Ps3 ownership base is more broad with a variety of taste in genres or reason for having the console....reflected in sales.
But which game is the better shooter....have to see.
BTW. Since getting my xbox 360 I've spent more time completing R6LV and replayin...
more baddies, destructible environments, and pretty water(lmfao).
GeoW was an okay game for me but I'm now getting really excited for GeoW2
Bring it.
Yeah, that will become the standard.
Nintendo's not going to spend mega bucks for a expensive next gen and Microsoft & Sony would have seen with the Wii there's no need to develop expensive technology to win the market share.
5 years life cycles.....evolutionary consoles not revolutionary.
The obvious future.....oh, yeah and the play- or X-motes.
The Wii is in an ideal position at the moment with its pricing and fun games/unique gameplay with the Wii-mote.
So long as Nintendo leads on price and gameplay, there's no need for a Wii 2 any time soon. Having said that, the Ps3 will likely be US$299 by the end of the year with a large number of quality games and quality net service. So although the wii will be cheaper, casual gamers will start to migrate to the Ps3.
However, because of the Wii-mote controller being...
but it's time to move over CoD4.
There's a new bad boy in town.
Who would have thought the Swedes good at war....making great war games that its?
Bring on BF:BC. Awesome game.
Yes, folks....it's going to happen.
One of the great things about the arrival of the xbox was that it broke down the barrier between PC and console gaming.
The next gen game consoles are ESSENTIALLY mini-PCs that last at least 5 years. Games developers optimize their code for the hardware which is fixed for those 5 years.
Compare that with PC gaming where developers write big and bloated code expecting the PC owner to upgrade his/her hardware($$$$) to ge...
...for the casual gamer to pick up a Ps3 - Free Fun.
A pleasant break from the monotony of killing, bashing and destroying games.
BUT
...this is what HOME should have been.....a free multi-themed MMORPG with trophies, Pads and a portal to other games. I hope Sony is making it so.
@Jeanne
We better get you into the picture.
I'm pro-Sony through and through and staunchly anti Microsoft.
I also have Kz1 and still play it now and then and clearly see the strenghts and flaws of the game. Obviously Kz2 will be better than kz1....no brainer.
BUT
show some commonsense laddy:
Which developer would make a better Killzone 2? Guerrilla Games or Infinity Ward?
Obvious really. Infinity ward would cl...
especially with Linux installed.
XP is only for newbs.
Stop messing around Sony and make your own fast, optimized, user-friendly distro of Linux or Unix for pete's sake...or free up the GPU so the main linux distros can start some optimization themselves.
And forget about PC gaming folks. The Consoles dominate game sales
More and more pc titles will come to the consoles especially as the consoles become PC alternatives.
