I agree. Average joe consumers buy kinect games and wii consoles in their masses and couldn't care less about what a game looks like, or even if it plays that well instead of being shovelware trash.
However i consider myself to be a 'true' core gamer, along with i suspect- millions of other people, and probably everyone that visits this site regularly.
So it does matter to a large proportion. A large proportion CAN tell the difference.

HA! Good luck seeing this in the next 24 hours if you haven't already. Their servers are poooooopy.
Cmon you cheapskates, sort it out already....
Interestingly the contract for Gears exclusivity has now ended with the release of Gears of War 3 as it was for a trilogy. Unless Microsoft have already made and signed up for the future of the series, Epic can move the IP onto any other platform they like.
Only a few months ago Epic talked about how they would like to bring the series to rival formats. Now they can.
It would be pretty easy objective. Things like head tracking are minor functions that not all that many people will use and are a few lines of code at best. Its kinda gimmicky, and i don't really care about it.
As for the cobblers about advanced lighting and polygons then for all that massive improvements explain why it looks like Forza 3 with a couple minor tweaks. You banging on about 'generational leap' is nonsense- you could mix the shots up here and to the ca...
Needs to be on PC. You can see how the original was cut back heavily to fit into 360, almost as if they bit off more than they could chew. Better off if they put it on PC and waited for the next gen machines to realise their original open world vision.
Really??? Looks about the same to me, playing the demo now too.
I loved Forza 3 but this feels like the FIFA roster update of the racing car world. I am reluctant to blow another 40 quid. I still need to see more changes, cos at the mo, you could almost have this stuff as DLC and lob it onto Forza 3.
They want the last scene of the series to have Gordon say one word and will thus spend the next decade looking for the perfect voice to utter it :D
It is pretty much impossible for the current console generation to replicate Crysis PC's completely dynamic lighting engine, very large texture resolutions, DX10 level shader complexity and enormous geometry pushing ability- even in just 720P and 30FPS. The fact that Crysis can easily eat up 1200mb of video memory alone on PC must have given Crytek massive headaches, dealing with machines that offer less than half that TOTAL for the game to run in.
Clever tricks can impro...
It looks very nice and very smooth. It kinda feels a bit slower than i expected ya know? Sense of speed etc. Maybe its just this wide track or that particular camera angle, or just the video here.
Get a taste of it and judge myself better with this demo :D
I do have to say sorry, but Jdoki's interpretation of the numbers is intentionally looked at from the wrong angle.
Lets not take the survey as word either- it is optional. Keep this in mind, but we can examine these numbers as Jdoki did.
80 percent or more have monitor resolutions 1280 x 1024 or more. Consoles do 1280 x 720 for the most part, this game may even be sub HD. Even 1280 x 1024 is 40 percent more resolution.
75 percent have 3Gb...
Its cack. At least on my connection and i am above their quoted recommended specs/speeds.
When i say cack, i mean its been pretty much unplayable everyday i tried it. Awful video quality with very low resolutions apparent when playing, lots of terrible macroblocking, compression artifacts, poor response and average sound. Stuttering and freezes.
I would imagine this will get better over time, and many years in fact as connections in the uk improve.

Ok so the graphics aren't orgasmic on console (who knew!) but they look good enough.
Now will someone tell me how it actually plays.
You know, the important bit....

MGS4- 1024 x 768 native, 2 x Temporal AA. Temporal really just being a half pixel shift and frame blending method. Bit like Halo reach etc.
The upscaling is pretty good, however on the dark scenes of Act 3 i think it is in eastern europe? You can sometimes make out the artifacts. That was the only time i noticed ...
Upscaling does nothing? You kidding right?
I agree that 'bad' upscaling can cause problems, and introduce artifacts and such not present in the original image. In that case it is better leaving it be.
However- these machines are capable upscalers. 360 is seriously good at upscaling images to 1080p, doing a stellar job with every single game i have ever seen. This is because the scaling runs on a reserved part of the GPU apparently, possibly a bit of s...
Errrr hands up who doesn't want to drive a Formula 1 car? No hands? Thought so... If i only wanted to go really fast and not crash i would get on a jet airliner. However i can't say its nearly as exciting a prospect.
I would love to drive one, AND have the skill to drive one. These are the fastest things ever built that can get around a proper circuit. If you like cars and turn down a chance to drive one of these for real you must be dead.
Being able ...
Lol whats the difference between native 1080p and upscaled 720p? Answer:
Nobody here knows it seems. :-)
It is nice that they have bothered sorting the scaling on the PS3 version, only a few games seem to these days. Uncharted 2 and KZ2 certainly look a bit smoother when forced to upscale.
The machine is clearly rather old, but in a way thats a good demo for the 'have to upgrade every few months' crowd.
It obliterates this console game @ 1080p on max settings with only modest GPU performance.
PC is untouchable by any current console. Hold no illusions. Take it from the people that have a gaming PC and all the current consoles.
Look if you haven't realised this by now in 2011, then there has to be something wrong with you. Or maybe you have never even seen a modern PC running a game in front of you on a good screen. Most likely the latter i would say, with a lot of the people here.
It is that simple.
If the PS3 version, or 360 ...
'superior 24 player options'
Facepalm.
You do realise that PC can do 24 players right...? Or 13 players, or 21 players, or 37 players...or...you get the idea.
PC can do 64 players MAX, so a lot more than console. That doesn't mean you have to play with 63 other players all the time. Or is this too obvious? lol
Jack reacher is a half detective, half problem eliminating ass kicker. Interesting combo for a game. Would be hard to convey in a game though- as would many characters if the game is you playing as the main character.

I think this is because we don't picture ourselves as the lead quite as easily as we do in a movie. For example as Reacher if you could kill or beat up innocents then that would mean effectively you aren't Reacher and thus the portrayal is a failure.
