There is no way Valve would release a game without it being available on their premier PC gaming platform that they own- Steam. All of Valve's games have been on PC. Not having it on Steam would basically be shafting themselves from their main revenue stream. Forget that.
However it is conceivable indeed to me they could make HL3 PS3 console exclusive. Why not? When they had a good relationship with Microsoft, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 were on 360 and PC.

Brand new consoles don't come out for mainstream gamers. :-/ They come out for early adopters with disposable income ready to invest early. You bring a new console out and you don't expect everyone to switch, you expect the people demanding a new console to buy it, and the rest to wait as per usual a couple years for the price to drop.
You have to have it out first before you can drop the price however!
I and many many others are ready for a new g...
The most taxing PC games can use over 1.5Gb of video RAM alone. Pretty much any decent PC game with a modern engine will exceed 1GB @ 1080p with MSAA. (BTW SLI does not increase the amount of usable video memory because assets are mirrored in the card's memory, they work on the same problem so use identical assets)
Games breaking 1.5Gb video memory can also easily use 1.5Gb+ of system memory. By this i mean the game itself, besides the system memory used for the OS. Nex...
I do admit that 768mb of memory is not really what i expected, i expected more, at least 1GB. Even if it has a lot of bandwidth like it would with this rumoured setup, its not really impressive. When every decent graphics card ships with 1Gb these days i would expect Wii U to ship with at least twice as much memory as PS3/360. Memory performance with IBM's latest eDRAM technology would be good but still limiting for a games console.
I notice that THE key part, the GPU, ...
LOL @ some of the crap spewed here like claiming 1080p isnt worth it and its not to do with power. Of course it is!
Current console games could run 1080p and 60FPS. Why don't most of them then, why is this not the design target for developers?
Simples. Games companies want people to crow over their graphics and their screenshots and their video adverts on SDTV. This sells games. In order to get these fancy shots that are in line with your rivals and s...
Killzone 3 is again not fantastic in 3D. The game is cut back texture/geometry wise, resolution wise and the framerate and response is just rough. Its not just that and GT5 though. Its any console game i played in 3D which is most of them. Nearly all of them 360 and Ps3 get cut back a lot.
Why does GT5 suck in 3D? Simple, the backgrounds and some alphas in GT5 in 3D are not correctly adjusted for 3D. Secondly the game takes a resolution hit, in 2D you can get 1280 x 1080. I...
I have tried most console 3D games, most of the high profile titles on PS3 and 360 and my opinion is that they are pretty poor....In most cases the performance and resolution hit is just nasty and feels and looks like you are playing an SD game with 3D, which defeats the point of having a HD consoles IMO. GT5 as a racer suffers horribly with framerates crushed down to sub 30 FPS and responsiveness ruined.
The 3D effect is not particularly good either on stuff like GT5 or KZ...
HD3300 isn't really as fast as the consoles on every game. It can run games but not quite to the resolution and speed the consoles can, it isn't far off though.
The A8-3850 APU is probably the best bet for gaming on integrated graphics. On most games it is around a match for consoles, some poorer optimised ones it isn't, so i don't quite class it as beating them wholesale. When the minimum performance is equal or better i would class that as a complete victo...
Nothing amazing abut 300w TDP for a dual GPU card. There have already been several, and even some specials that break the 400w barrier. The
Asus MARS cards for a while are power unlimited, so they can and will draw over 400w...
As for these then it is more interesting seeing what the new architecture can do against Kepler in Direct X11. I would say these like the 5870 v GTX480 will actually be slower but end up cheaper.
The more interesting side for j...
Unfortunately this was inevitable once the Government began scouring for ways to increase their tax revenue in the current economic climate.
While the claims this levels the field for all business are partly true, this 'levelling' just means higher cost to the end consumer, only the end consumer really loses out as usual.
To me, someone who orders countless items online that benefit from this 'loophole' this is a major blow for the future ...
Lets say it would be even though it is entirely unlikely, it would possibly be the first ever truly photorealistic title in game.
I always said racing games will be the first to achieve photorealism in motion, and i think that one more generation is all we need.
Imagine GT5 photo mode, but even MORE advanced. I doubt most people would be able to pick out what was the game and what was a photo or video of racing.
Having the lot is greedy but good. This year i have found PC getting hammered, lots and lots of use on multis especially then PS3 exclusives. 360 and Wii have not had much of a look in by comparison TBH.
It isn't JUST the graphics, but it would be very hard to pry me away from my super shiny high res PC for stuff like skyrim or BF3, or shogun2 etc etc and slumming it only with a console.
This mod is for 14 year olds with porn filters they are too inept to bypass. It seems stupid having all the women in the game nude. Talk about breaking the immersion.
I do have the no more blocky faces mod though- thats a worthy mod. First thing i noticed early in the game were these weird lego faces and now they are disposed of. Sweet.
Meh. Knew about this ages ago. Also Metal Gear Solid 2....
They had no problems for the past 30 years that poor Donkey Kong is clearly a victim of animal abuse.
Shocking hypocrisy PETA *shakes head*
Yep, the saturn used dual graphics. It used dual graphics by splitting the tasks fairly strictly between them, which made it hard to develop for. Dynamic load balancing wasn't a concept that had been explored much on multi GPU systems back then.
AFR (alternate frame rendering) is the typical technique for PC multiple GPU systems which is more prone to stutter. It is mainly used because this is the easiest and most practical way to make as many games as possible function...
Playing on PC, no real gamebreakers yet. Funny physics maybe, but again nothing too wacky.
The worst bugs i had with fallout were the DLC, it was totally borked when it launched especially broken steel. How apt that was. The game always crashed when you neared the tunnel.
I used noclip to dodge past the crashy bits and played it because Bethesda took a week or so to fix it. Luckily i have not had to do anything like that yet in Skyrim!
Hmmm some people still thinking inside the box. Micro stuttering is heavily, heavily, heavily driver and bandwidth dependent on a windows PC, using Direct X, and a standard PCIE bus. As i said, if the GPUs are connected with a very high speed bus and developers are aware of the maximal load of this bus micro stuttering would not exist. They probably couldn't exceed it anyway. This is why microstutter usually doesn't happen for those people who have powerful PC setups because they have...
I said for a while Dual GPU would actually be possible, and actually fairly smart to start with and work well in consoles because the developers would be able to code for it.
Why? Well it is a well known fact that two midrange GPUs can edge out a high end, very expensive GPU, while not actually costing any more. One recent example being GTX560 SLI comfortably bests a single GTX580, but actually costs less! This has been going on for some time now and there are prior example...
It depends on what you want in your machine and what upper limit you set your power consumption and heat dissipation as. PS3 and 360 were 200w consoles when they first arrived. A modern mobile quad usually has a maximum of 55w TDP, typical parts are 45w. This is not a lot and wouldn't be very hot.
The most power consumption is always made up by the GPU, which we still know nothing useful about. Something like a 40nm radeon 6750 is an 85 watt part, which would be perfect...
