True, HD is just marketing speak. But the Genesis could manage higher maximum resolutions compared to the NES at that time. Obviously when the SNES launched with slightly better capabilities, Sega appeared to drop the moniker probably for fear of a nintendo marketing backlash. The console wars were like that even way back when.
Genesis does what nintendont. Everyone surely remembers that campaign?
You getting in and finding the performance 'generally' acceptable probably indicates the minimum Square are aiming for, after optimisations it will hopefully run just fine all the time. Many games created on this generation of consoles or with console in mind put the minimum bar somewhere around a 7900/X1900 series on PC because thats the rough performance the consoles deliver :-)
Because its a BETA, these are not stated minimum requirements for the finished thing. Only people with good PCs are initially asked into this type of MMO beta usually. Why? Well because the game is not finished obviously, and performance optimisation may not be exactly where they want it, and certainly the drivers for this are not optimised either, as its not out yet!
This is why a lot of betas have questionnaires about your machine before they consider you for a key. Perfo...
Alan wake? Should simply have been on PC. Its not a bad game but the engine is clearly faaaaaaar too much for 360 to handle even in its cut down state, and remedy did not spend enough time tailoring it to 360 clearly.
Remedy should have done what they did with Max payne 1 and 2, get the Pc version sorted and out the door, and then go about scaling it onto a console to maintain focus 6 months later. Im pretty sure they wasted a great deal of time unsure what platform it was ...
German is the kind of language that makes me feel like i want to shout every sentence like a command.
But anyway. Some lovely shots of Pc graphics, not bullshots. Thats actually what the games look like on the screen. Im so sick of console bullshots.
PS3 was actually late in truth. It was only a lack of bluray diodes that forced the launch delay, otherwise it was scheduled to launch in the march of 2006 instead of late 06 and spring 07 for europe.
I felt when 360 launched at that time it was a bit rushed and certainly aimed to beat the other machines out the gate. The supply of hardware didnt even stabilise until the spring of 2006, you couldnt buy a machine off the shelves until about march 2006 in the uk, not because ...
As i feared- you completely misunderstand the point. You seem to be missing the entire point. The sequels listed on 360, the big names have ALREADY debuted on that system, and are sequels to games ALREADY out this generation for 360. Whereas the few latter PS3 games i highlighted are NOT out this generation, unless you count GT5 prologue which is a glorified demo, and polls have already backed up the idea that a lot of people who are going to buy GT5 do not currently own a PS3 and are waiting...
No offence to John Daly but really, 500th in the world John Daly? Im assuming there must be licensing issues where all the other top dudes like Mickelson, Westwood, Stricker etc are licensed to TW11, inside the ryder cup license. Ok so it wont reflect on the quality of the game but still, How much does Jack Nicklaus cost? lol
This hardware will give 360 a boost but its software that carries the momentum and i dont see what microsoft have to sell the machine to new users. They have few original titles now that arent sequels to games already on 360 to pull more users in. Halo reach, Gears of War 3, Fable 3, Crackdown 2- what do they all have in common? They are all sequels to games out this generation, which people have already bought machines for. I mean if you dont have a 360 for for Halo 3 or ODST, are you buying...
ANYONE here who didnt think that launching new hardware means a short sharp uptake in sales? Course it will. Sustained sales is what matters to these companies, will this slim trigger a few months of continuous sales lead for 360? That is the question. I dont believe so.
Its true that ruffian are ex realtime employees, but the main man is still at realtime, Dave Jones. Creator of crackdown, lemmings and GTA no less with DMA design among other games, his was the force behind the original. APB is obviously his new work.
@ edhe below, he managed to stick around at realtime this time. Crackdown was farmed out, rather than him leaving his creation!
This is true. But also so many of our friends who play online play these games for a while and we want to play with them, but everyone eventually stops and moves onto the next thing. If you waited three or four months for a price drop on many multiplayer games, you wont be playing with your friends which is a huge thing for me and a big part of the enjoyment
Online penetration leading to.......firmware updates. This is THE main difference between this generation and the previous. With more than half the owners of PS3 and 360 hooking their machines to a high speed internet connection, firmware updates have changed the game completely. The ability to add MAJOR features and increase the variety of functions allows consoles to at least keep closer to technology advancements. Sure the hardware is effectively static, but the software environment can be...
Playing nearly all multi platform titles on my Pc saves me more than enough every year over buying the console version to afford a nice upgrade, a new graphics card or whatever.
At least 10 pounds a game over 15-20 titles for a year is not to be sniffed at
Never too late to play........Gpolice. Which you can do on your Ps3 off PSN :-)
I think its inevitable looking at the four year trend, PS3 has closed the gap constantly every year. On current sales figures providing the trend does not heavily swing it should be close to surpassing 360 by summer 2011. Once PS3 gets itself under that magical 200 dollar mark in north america i suspect it will begin to REALLY fly off the shelves
Liquid is BRILLIANT. Kojima watches enough movies to realise that the bad guys with english accents are always the best....
Must be console screens. These are a bit small and share some shots with this gallery:

These are 1280 x 720 shots.
@ Chaos69 read and see hence the words we can. Not we have to. Im sure it will pull some people into the store to have a look. Lets just hope they are allowed enough room and dont cause too many injuries. First aid medic on standby
Its not like there isnt enough footage of wii related home accidents on youtube. There'll be black eyes for sure
From a technical standpoint Uncharted 2's game engine is as good as it gets on this generation of console. The combination of world class art direction makes it the best looking console title, you can have a really superb game engine but without the art making use of those tools you have a clean looking game but not an astounding looking one.
If your art direction hides the weaknesses of your game engine well then you can make do with a less than superb feature set, a l...
