Bit gutted really, was hoping to sell my copy on ebay but its only worth pittance now secondhand after just a couple months :-(
Doom is huge! One of the biggest names in gaming history, lets have some respect here for that legacy, just because there hasnt been a game knocked out every couple years like other so called big franchises doesnt mean this name should be forgotten...It should be applauded if anything for not selling out as such. All these generic shooters being knocked out owe a massive amount to this franchise- respect the Godfathers of the genre!
This will arrive with an increase in tech...
Looks like 1994 all over again lol. Sega 32x FTW!
Gives Ati and nvidia time to tape out new silicon in readiness for this game's release on Pc lol :-)
Seriousness though- We may just see 28nm silicon late Q1 2011. Aka next generation full node Pc graphics. If one game is expected to need that, then this is probably it!
1280 x 720 by Pc standards, is a very low resolution. Your HDTV might be something like 1368 x 768 native resolution, in which case all modern PC games usually support this natively as well. Even at such a resolution a radeon 5770 like shown in that hardware guide is total overkill for most titles and you would be able to enable maximum settings and a bunch load of filtering on pretty much anything, even crysis. Multiformat titles such as Assassins creed 2, Riddick, Mass effect 2 and no doubt...

This is a guide for a machine you can build yourself, minus operating system, screen and peripherals etc. Expect to find a bit more money if you want a pre built machine with similar performance.
You really dont need much of a machine these days to consistantly beat out console performance comfortably. Just see how call of duty mode...
MOH frontline basically pays homage to SPR, the beach landing and even fighting in the streets in france was set exactly in the same village as some SPR shots, i recall comparison shots lol.

However the best for me was call of duty 2 and pointe du hoc landings, which i recall playing on Pc and also one of the first 360 games. It looked incredbile, the atmosp...
Hmmm. I hope they have the Cee apostrophe D too :-)
I dont really mind a little delay to play the Pc version. i certainly wont be all over the console version just so i can play it a few months before the platform i want to play it on, with all the enhancements Pc will provide as well as a lower RRP. Its usually worth it.
Its not like there isnt a whole bunch of games to be playing october/november time instead, i doubt i will miss it. Pick it up whenever it comes out and the releases have quietened down a bit, i dont mind g...
Yeah has to be commercial most likely, i recall microsoft talking about delaying their Pc titles too. Besides it gives them time to refine and squash all the bugs that are almost inevitably going to be in the console version....
Fable 2 was a bugfest :-( even molyneux admitted that
Agreed. Mac is to Pc gaming as Mcdonalds is to healthy eating- as much as they might like to pretend, everyone who has common sense realises thats not the first connection in your mind.
Use the right tools for the right job
No Pc demo? Im not too surprised, ubisoft screwed up the demo of the first game really badly. Ubisoft treat Pc very poorly, and im none too impressed about it
I didnt say it couldnt be done, i said there were compromises. Often heavy. GT5 3D reports already suggest the framerate is reduced, possibly even its resolution too. Without 3D wipeout is an astounding 1080p 60 frames a second title. With it, its confined to 720/30. Wipeout 2D was designed WITH 1080/60 in mind. In its 3D transition, it can retain a HD resolution and stable framerate, albeit heavily cut back to allow 3D. Now imagine enabling 3D on other titles that already push the limits 2D ...
3D done as it is being done eats processor cycles. Its a fact of life and you cant escape from that. It is admirable that the current generation is trying its best to offer up value and improve its longevity, but this technology is really only going to work without compromise for HD games on newer hardware designed for the purpose and not adapted like the four year+ old consoles- PC in other words.
To be fair, its not exactly a conversation you want to hear from your surgery team, laying on the table, just before you go under anaesthetic though is it?
Surgeon 1: 'You done one of these before?'
Surgeon 2: 'No, but i played Socom 4 and Resident Evil 5 gold edition all last night for preparation. Totally pwned that whiny little kid online with the accuracy'
*Unconscious* LOL
The concept will probably be eventually how the industry is. All digital delivery. Its a pioneer and unfortunately lives up to its name in the marketplace as a phantom.
A machine a good ten ten years too soon. Dont forget it, because when console X comes out with only a hard drive and people start crowing over the idea etc etc you can say well its not new, there was this one console talked about ages ago.....
Pc is setting the trend heavily as it is now w...
None of the evidence ever points to Pc being dead, its just a fallacy again. Console gamers might like to think its dead, but it just isnt. Starcraft 2 will be one of the biggest games of the year just like The sims 3 was one of the biggest games of last year, selling 4.5m units in 2009 and continuing to sell. It was right up there in terms of single format game sales.
Starcraft 2 will be too at the end of this year, i guarantee it.
I expect it could be an update to be HTML5 compatible. Thats the next big format change for the internet as we know it. This will probably get heavy backing because it eliminates the need for a large majority of browser plug ins, flash included
It shouldnt be allowed out until the Half life episode trilogy is completed.
Im happy about a return to more traditional modes and toning down of the heavy XTREEEEEME americanisations. They can find a balance for the purists, Dirt 2 swung rather too much away from the codies' mcrae series sim roots for my liking just to try and break the american market.
Seeing european rallies like monte carlo and finland return along with classic rally legend machines has certainly made me very optimistic for this iteration. Everyone i know always wants to see...
