Oh give me a break. How many people out there in the mainstream market actually gives a damn about specs? The core gamers you see are the internet are the ones who care about that, not parents or kids.
I think pixel-art games have their place in history. What you see as trendy now was the highest standard about thirty years ago. Some developers love and will continue to love that style, as will some gamers. I say let that gravy train keep rolling as long as it wants to.
No it would not be. Not even close. He doesn't make all of the business decisions and he doesn't have full control. There are board members and shareholders to consider.
Furthermore, Iwata has been involved with Nintendo's software development since the NES era. All of those "classics" everyone sings praises for? Games like Kirby, Pokemon and Metroid? They've all had development input from Iwata. So no, firing him would NOT be a good start at all.
That was fast... I was wondering when this would come out.
That's something for a wait and see approach. Analysts seem to believe the general adoption rate of these new consoles will be slower than previous generations. It's unlikely, but there's no real way to know for sure until those consoles are released.
And that makes you all sorts of giddy, doesn't it? ;)
I know most people view Metroid Prime (trilogy) as a first person adventure (and by all accounts it is), but to say it can't be placed in the FPS genre is odd to me. It's in a first person perspective and almost all of the combat is handled through shooting. So shouldn't it count anyway?
"to say that a company covers all genres, you shouldnt have to dig through games from the last 20 years. of course they will probably touch upon every genre at some point."
You're completely grasping at straws. Nintendo has well received and well sold games in many different genres. Mario for platformers, Zelda for action/adventure, Mario Kart and F-Zero for racing, Metroid Prime in FPS, Earthbound and Fire Emblem for RPG and even Smash Bros. for fighting games....
I'm in the same boat. God of War and Zelda both have years and years between each major iteration. To say either is milked is ridiculous.
You can argue it's the same world and art style, but how are you willing to tell me that Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion (not even a real Mario game), Mario 3D, Mario 2D, Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario, Mario Party even remotely the same?
They're in completely different genres. They may make a lot of games but it's hardly a Call of Duty scenario.
I've met quite few girls who are big fans of games like Halo and Gears of War, while I've met just as many who are fans of things like Zelda and Final Fantasy. It really isn't a gender thing at all, it's all about taste.
There are some rare third party hits. Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, No More Heroes and a few others.
Yes, I'm aware that some of them were ported to other platforms, but they were exclusive to Nintendo platforms at one point and that's my main point
Good hands, my ass. Developers sure, but with EA as the publisher? Forget it. The various IPs they've killed off are reason enough for skepticism.
I'm not trying to put a negative spin on it. It's just a shame that the sales dropped like that. It's great game and deserves to do better. I was just giving my honest thoughts, I really don't see why the eight plus disagrees were necessary.
...you're joking, right?
@SilentNegotiator
"Don't pretend to pick up rage from a few key strokes."
You're right. I could instead point out your needless vendetta against anyone who apparently the feels the Wii U can do better because the PS3 and the 3DS did as well. Between the two of us, one of us isn't going around to other people's blogs trying to shoot their points down just because they see things differently. And no, your assessment is far from factual...
Give me a break. You can't seriously be naive enough to believe that. If the 360 can run it, so can the Wii U, end of story. This has to do with poor relations between EA (which owns DICE) and Nintendo, or perhaps even a lack of effort on DICE's part.
Their interest is in the dedicated hardcore crowd which is mostly fixated on the 360 and PS3, so of course they're not going to make a game with as slow a start as the Wii U. Don't make this a power issue when it...
"It will STILL be stuck far in the middle between attractions for casuals and hardcore, being largely unnoticed by both."
And what point did you become a marketing expert? The Wii U will at one point in its lifetime be the cheapest hardware on the market. Right now it's competing with older, cheaper hardware with greater and relevant libraries with larger install bases. You seriously think things can't play out differently when two new consoles starting comp...
"That's a very weak argument. Wii U is still several times weaker than the systems coming out in just a few months"
I think you missed his point. Not all Wii U games are going to look like high end 360/PS3 games a year or so into the generation. Obviously the Wii U can never reach the potential of the PS4/Nextbox, but to say the games won't start to look better later on is foolery.
"It isn't like Wii U games are going to make a gene...
Just like the previous generations. It's better to have some third party support as oppose to none, but I think it's important for Nintendo to entice developers as much as they can for both this generation and the next.
