It's funny to me that so many people complain about bullet sponging but I see no mention of instant healing, area healing, carrying huge amounts of gear around in a medium sized backpack, carrying 6 pieces of potentially large gear around in a medium sized fanny pack, a helicopter that can extract your loot but can't provide any sort of air cover…
It's a game. It has many unrealistic elements, as nearly all games do. You don't like an element we've all kno...
"Make it a free to play game and charge for weapons etc"
Mind : Boggled.
"Still think the worst thing about the beta is it being over…"
Exactly what I was going to say.
Depends on how you felt about those earlier games. For me, Ico and Shadow were and still are two of my favorite games of all time. The collection was the first I ever bought, still one of the few collections I've gone for, and if they released it again for PS4 I'd buy it again. I think there's a very high chance that Guardian will be more gaming magic for me.
"People keeping bringing up this issue of judging a game by it's beta like it's a crime."
From a beta you can tell if you like the basic gameplay, and sometimes you can get an indication of the storytelling style. That's about it.
Co-op with friends will be fun, and the Dark Zone is the most interesting PvP I've played in years. That about sums it up for me.
"(Always positive and a negative to balance things out)"
More like rarely a positive and nearly always a negative.
I couldn't care less about shoehorning characters into a story that doesn't require them, as long as the story is good enough. We'll see.
"I guarantee you spent a lot more time than me playing"
The most efficient way to get XP and cash in the beta was to kill AI and rogues. Efficiency has nothing to do with time spent.
My group went rogue a few times, and the rewards weren't nearly as good as simply roaming the map killing AI, especially named AI, opening Dark Zone chests, and killing Rogues. XP, cash, and loot gains were much quicker. Going Rogue is simply a thing to do sometimes...
I did something today I've never done before… I upgraded my preorder to the Gold edition.
I've never bought a Gold edition, rarely buy DLC at all, and have only purchased two season passes since they came into existence, both of them 6 months to a year later and on sale, but I am all in with this game. Loved my time with the beta and miss it now. Can't wait!
"All weapons felt basically the same"
No they didn't.
"the enemies, which don't even make sense, couldn't have worse ai"
I've played games that had much worse AI.
"They could have made the realistic, tactical game they said they were making."
When did they say that? The gameplay of the open beta was almost exactly like what they showed in the original reveal.
Why is it dumb? Is instant healing dumb? How about area healing? How about carrying 6 assault rifles in a medium sized fanny pack? How about having a helicopter that can extract your gear but can't provide air cover at the landing zone or anywhere else? How about deploying a shield out of thin air? How about a radar pulse that makes you do more damage to detected enemies?
It's a game, and no game is for everyone. There are plenty of "one shot kill" games on ...
I'd rather my turret not cause me to go Rogue. People just run in front of them on purpose.
"Getting to level 10 in the beta only seemed possible by going around killing fools"
Nah the group I ran with spent it's time for the most part killing AI and hunting rogues, with little rogue time ourselves, and we all hit lvl 12 and got at least one of the high end weapons if not both.
They can dominate the VR market at that price maybe, but that price won't cause the gaming masses to jump on board.
A lot of people on N4G seem to read headlines and react without reading anything else.
I didn't even know Pachter said it until I scrolled down and saw your comment.
The future of any game series is uncertain. The same exact team can come up with a mediocre or bad sequel no matter how much funding they have.
Fixed hardware has limitations? Naaah…

Not interested. Maybe it will change my mind if there's a demo.
Still has fun racing gameplay and great visuals.
Duh.
It's called "The Division by Ubisoft"
Last I checked there were around 7850 members.
