Playing TLOU told me that some people at Naughty Dog love Silent Hill, Half Life 2 and maybe a touch of Max Payne.
They were all a hit - Wii, 360 PS3 and all broadly at the same kind of level. There's never been a more successful generation in console sales.
PS4 will probably sell very well and so may the XboxOne but the WiiU means that it probably won't be a 3 hit generation this time unless a new entrant happens to come along.
The original Wii's sales were inflated by the puff and bluster of gimmick buys.
I got the feeling it was the other way around.
I don't just believe it do I? I think it, I feel it- it's my opinion and not necessarily anyone else's. I could get by very easily without playing Japanese games. The only one that I've played in recent months is Catherine which was OK but I can live without it.
OK, there's Puppeteer on PS3 coming up which looks great but it's an exception for me nowadays rather than a rule.
I got the feeling from looking at the main character that he might actually be wearing work clothing (his short sleeved shirt has a name square saying 'Ray') and may have been working in some manual role like a fast food restaurant.
I hope I'm right as that gives the game that nice blue collar edge as he hangs out with his more beatnik buddies.
It seems clear to me that this game serves to attract those interested in the likes of Heavy Rain.
Microsoft seem skilled at targetting launch or near to launch games at specific genres that will harm the competition- not because they're exactly like the competition but because they do something immediate and fresh seeming for the new generation. With genres that tend to sell better on competitors consoles, it doesn't necessarily result in massive games sales but it c...
2004 was the year of the sequel - you could barely buy anything except a sequel that year. Some were great (Half Life 2 / San Andreas) but
2003 was fine too:
1080 Avalanche
Beyond Good and Evil
Billy Hatcher
F Zero GX
Grabbed by the ghoulies
Gregory Horror Show
James Bond 007: Everything or nothing
Max Payne 2
Outrun 2
Silent Hill 3
SSX3
I'm looking forward to Puppeteer for the PS3 but 'The Puppeteer' for 'PS4'?
I suppose that there's the whole thing about Killer Instinct being a Rare game.
And Rare not actually making the kinds of games that its most vocal fans tend to ask them to make. And when they get one, it's not even made by Rare! (but it looks pretty good - and is free -although I don't know how much of a leap it is from the last gen).
I mean I'd have expected Rare to have been first choice to make Kinect Adventures for instance.
There's barely a Japanese game that I care for except for the odd Miyamoto one.
All their pseudo mythology, robots (and 'dating' sims that don't get released in Europe anyway).
On the PS2 the Japanese had some interesting survival horror games but nowadays the PS4 and XboxOne could probably have nearly as superb a roster of games for Western tastes without any Japanese input.
What I've learnt about the PS4 so far - can do particle effects, including heat, (see Deep Down) very well.
But when people say that Ryse looks limited because of QTEs I think Heavenly Sword was no different on early PS3.
Sunset Overdrive reminds me partly of Jet Set Radio Future in its environmental style which Microsoft also secured as an exclusive with the original Xbox. I do believe that the Xbox One needed it more for its line up than the PS4 did (PS4 has Knack and Infamous to cover both cute and city based games) but, still, even if it doesn't sell massively well on XboxOne I still think that it's a lovely-looking game to have and it may make a significant minority , like Rare's defection mig...
Oh - I like the fact that your comment got more disagrees at the moment. You must have thought from previous comments that you were on to such a winner with that one. You always back the favourite do you? Well some of us like consoles when they're seen as being in 'underdog' status. That's why the turnaround of the PS3 was so sweet. I won't rule out the XboxOne until I see actual games (rather than PC representations). And I might get both consoles in the end.
Lockhart, if I hold a children's party at my house and I leave the gate open and someone comes in and kills everyone, should I be jailed for negligence?
The law doesn't seem to think so and yet if Sony put up far more defence on their system than the person who leaves a gate open they get a 250 million pound fine?
It's all about making money. The legal system cares more about making money than it cares for annoying Sony. If it had been some other ...
Who gets the fine? Does it go to those whose information was hacked? Did they even know that their information had been hacked and did they suffer from it?
The biggest parasites are those bringing in the fine. The legal system is a money spinner. They probably don't even really care about finding out who the hackers are unless it serves the legal system financially to do so.
It's the hackers who mainly deserved to be fined. Sony are the victims. They...
Americans don't care how lucky you are with prices in comparison to the rest of the world.
If the Xbox One is 499 dollars that would convert to 331.06 British pounds.
But that's not what the price is in England - it's 425 pounds here.
Now, given that it comes with Kinect 2.0 and some pretty nice exclusives, and if I give them the benefit of the doubt that cloud might make the games more dynamic (or would have done if they'd s...
It's 'extremely difficult' to make Beyond Good and Evil 2 it seems.
Nah- the PS1 , PS2 and PS3 all worked on such different architectures that they were each more or less like a new start. The Xbox360, on the other hand, is a bit like a souped up Xbox. Which is OK because the original Xbox was powerful. But the Wii did not step up the graphics enough from the Gamecube for me.
And yet the continued idenitification of the Xbox, both with Xbox players and, to some extent, Microsoft, as being for 'shooters' harms the broader base of non-shooter games that they have always provided which have never sold greatly:
Jet Set Radio Future
Blinx : The Timesweeper (tricky controls explains why it didn't deserve massive sales).
Grabbed by the ghoulies
Banjo Kazooie : Nuts and Bolts (vehicles in a Banjo game is a nice idea. Ma...
