Sackboy looks like a little zombie to me. What do you think about when you hear the word 'sack'? That lunatic chainsaw wielding man in Resident Evil 4 with a sack on his head. I don't understand the appeal of this demonic Mr Bean teddy lookalike. It's like the PS3 has little or no cute games like the Wii so when they decide to have something childlike they overcompensate and have something truly infantile but a bit creepy at the same time. Still, the game itself does look very interesting. An...
Not really. The point they were trying to make is that they enjoy freedom in a game. But what if there was complete freedom in a game to commit any crime that you wanted, no matter how heinous. Child murder, which they that say this game allows, is one of the worst crimes. So what's your point?
'MyGen writes: "Some of my fondest gaming memories stem from killing children in Fallout. It wasn't the actual act that was so satisfying, but the response; being labelled as a "child killer" and having the entire world turn its back on me. The fact that I was able to do it, the freedom to do whatever you wanted; that's always been what excited me about the Fallout games.'
I suppose they think that Custer's Last Stand should be made into 3D as well for similar re...
I particularly like the point about games that reward you for failing. I have played several games where you are not sure whether it is OK to fall down a ditch or not.
I disagree that 'Every single player game that is not about sports or racing needs a story'. What's the story of Tetris? Many great 2D platform games have a flimsy plot of sorts.
The article says 'While there have been some half-hearted attempts to offer something for the younguns (Banjo Kazooie, Viva Piñata)'.
If there's one thing that Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts doesn't deserve to be called, surely it's 'half hearted'. Rare took the difficult option of creating a gamesworld that relies on specific vehicle capabilities to be navigated. Those who are half hearted surely wouldn't have taken on reinventing the Banjo Kazooie formula.
What has 2003 ever done for us? Apart from Beyond Good and Evil (ok the plot is quite cliched), Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (ok, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and various other games have made it look dated), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (although time has only been kind to the visuals in my opinion, not most of the islands), Viewtiful Joe (ok, I haven't actually played it since), 1080 Avalanche (very under-rated- great game), Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne (excellent if very simi...
Just like any other poll, it says more about the people who vote on it than it does about the merits of the games. If you are a cute platformer which doesn't have the words 'Mario' or 'Sonic' in your title you may as well forget ever having existed as far as polls are concerned (The great Banjo Kazooie fortunately got some votes).
Lemmings? Cannon Fodder? Monkey Island? Monty Mole? Manic Miner? Jet Set Willy? Rick Dangerous? Superfrog? Fire and Ice? Magic Pockets? All those great Disne...
It seems to me that the PS3 version with a smaller posterior is designed to appeal to Japanese people who traditionally buy Sony consoles whereas the Xbox360 version has proportions, and style, more fitting in that department to Americans who have more readily got behind the Xbox brand.
Well what people are saying is that 'Edge', which is the product that people buy, contains poor reviews. They are not suggesting that 'Edge' is a living entity capable of its own thought, unless one of the members of U2 or a namesake has decided to take up videogame reviewing. It's like saying the Daily Mirror is poor at entertainment news (it is- they make a large part of it up suhc as when they said that Michael Jackson had put in an excellent performance at the World Music Awards and then ...
Edge gave Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball 8/10 for the reason that it epitomises a holiday atmopshere, with the opportunity to shop, play games by the pool or play volleyball. Fair enough- but it's still a game that most people would only want to dip into for very short periods (a few minutes a time as I found in my case). Somehow that experience is equated by Edge as being on a par with Banjo Kazooie on the N64, also given 8/10, a game that you can play for long periods of time witho...
Iwentbrokeforgaming is right. The Gamecube Resident Evil remake will always remain one of the most graphically impressive games to me. Part of the reason for this (and why I am so impressed with many Cube games) is that it is housed on such a small disc. OK, it is one of the few Cube games that needs 2 discs but the seeming incongruousness of such a haunting, detailed game on the cute Cube, more used to ringing out with cries of 'Mario!' and 'It's me, Luigi', means that Capcom's relationship ...
If this game doesn't belong on the Xbox360 does that mean that Rare should have made Banjo carry a gun?
I take issue with the widespread belief that the Nintendo versus Sega days were more childish. The more abstract worlds of Nintendo and Sega, whilst child-LIKE, are not emotionally immature. That would like calling Picasso or Matisee immature people for painting bright colours. I say that Nintendo and Sega are more truly mature studios than Sony and Microsoft can ever dream of. There are exceptions- The likes of Mirrors Edge stand out like a beacon of pure, clean lines, something rare (except...
At least tell me what you disagree with.
I've in the UK and have been playing videogames for over 25 years. The term 'fan boy' is so gauche, so daft. It sounds like something from the 1950s and yet the many people who use it probably think that they are being really modern. So that's about 99% of people on here that I've offended then, whether they're a 'fan boy' or not.
That bit is copied and pasted from a recent post I wrote- I'd also like to add that nobody I know has ever used the word- I assume that it's an Amer...
You don't know much about Rare if you think that they are going to make sequels to Killer Instinct, Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini and Grabbed by the Ghoulies based on this inclusion in the game. The clue is in the final game- Rare have made it very clear, not least in other parts of Nuts and bolts, that Grabbed by the ghoulies was not warmly received. Personally, I felt that although the repetition of the game didn't make it an AAA classic to me, it still had the style, atmosphere and some of...

The second paragraph says that, when they received the preview code, comparisons to Goldeneye were 'deserved'. Then they say that comparisons are 'pointless and slightly unfair'. You can't have it both ways- are the comparisons deserved or pointless and slightly unfair?
As for the last paragraph, I know that the vast majority of Xbox360 (and PS3) owners will probably agree with the review but what is necessarily 'grown up' about wanting to see blood? If a game is mean to be esc...
By regarding themselves as (self-appointed) arbitars of fair scoring, Edge only make their inconsistencies seem ever more glaring.
Edge gave Dead or Alive- Xtreme Beach Volleyball 8/10, one reason being that it sums up a vacation experience. I bought Dead or Alive- Xtreme Beach Volleyball brand new for a relatively small £12.00. It arguably does what it sets out to do but it is still the same short scenes, on the court, by the pool, at the shop and in the casino, about 30 ...
I don't understand- the Gamecube Resident Evil remake was superb- this looks exactly the same- Wii controls are going to add practically nothing to the experience and doesn't the Wii play Gamecube games anyway? So why?
