RE: Multiplayer

Based on what I've read, multiplayer is not actually optional for many players. Some of the choices you made in previous games -- which are now unchageable of course -- make it literally impossible to get the good ending without resorting to multiplayer. At least that's the impression I've gotten from reading many forum threads on this topic.

There are lots of people out there who scanned every planet and did every side mission...

This game actually commits two major sins:

1) Day 1 DLC that was cut from the main story (in what is supposed to be a story-driven game).

2) A multiplayer mode that you are forced to play if you want the "good" ending (pulling you away from the main story in what is supposed to be a story-driven game).

It's still a fun game, but Bioware deserves lots of criticsm over these two decisions.

Best boss fight in the series IMO.

Great series. My only complaint is that I wish they would cut down a little on the grinding (pure bladestone, channeler's trident). Otherwise, don't change a thing.

I'm enjoying this game, but parts of it are still leaving a bad taste in my mouth. First you have day one DLC feauring story-driven content that was cut from the retail release. And now you have the single player experience being polluted by the multiplayer. This is almost a parody of what's wrong with this generation of games.

@Soldierone

Twisted Metal and COD are both primarily multiplayer games with tacked-on single player campaigns. Neither is a good comparison with Sorcery.

Nope. 5-6 hours is completely unacceptable for a regular, retail release.

I'll take that back if it launches at $30, but at $60 that's a complete rip-off.

Just started a new character a week ago after taking a break from this game. The thing that jumps out to me (again) is how great a job From did in creating a real sense of place. The fact that all of these levels tie together and loop back around on one another with various shortcuts is just brilliant. My only regret is that they didn't find a way to link Lordran up with Anor Londo without relying on the "giant bird" device.

There are lots of other games out there besides ME. It's not like the guy is going to go game-less if he opts to pass this one over in favor of a franchise that doesn't cut important characters out of the retail release of its game.

When I played the demo, everything felt kind of flat and lifeless, but I hard time putting my finger on why. Part of it is the choppiness of the cutscenes, but reading this article made me realize that the sound design is a big contributor to this issue too. Good write-up.

This was a really good article. Until recently, I had no choice but to deal with ultra-slow DSL (like 256k down) thanks to living in the sticks, and it was a huge pain to download patches and demos, most of which required me to leave my PS3 on overnight to let the download finish. My internet is solid now, but people who have never had to deal this don't realize how bad high-speed internet penetration is in the US.

It wouldn't bother me at all if it was exclusive to XBL. I can't speak for all PS3 owners, but the fact that Microsoft has to rely on stuff like this evokes feelings of pity more than anger.

I'd love to see Capcom deliver, but I'm not getting my hopes. RE5 was terrible.

If M$ had the world in its wallet, it would put out actual games, not demos.

A timed exclusive demo? Really?

lol

Agreed. KZ3 was the most disappointing game I've played in a long time. It was a huge step backwards from KZ2.

Edit: It wasn't just the controls. It's that they reduced the player count, made horrible and tiny maps, gave you little health, got rid of spawn grenades, got rid of squad spawning, and basically killed off any semblance of teamwork.

I really liked the quest where you talked to that one guy, travelled across the map, and cleared out that dungeon to retrieve an item at the very end. And then you had to return the item to the guy you talked to before, who gave you a reward.

I don't remember the name of that quest -- you guys know the one I'm talking about.

Losing. The word you're looking for is "losing."

I'm glad the author likes Demon's Souls, but the last boss wasn't meant to be hard. It's really just there for story purposes instead of a cutscene.

They're right about Alan Wake -- if it was available, I'd definitely be picking this one up. I'd also buy SMB, but I understand that they were focusing on major releases.

Microsoft can keep the rest of the games on that list, and that includes Gears. I'm assuming they just put Kinectimals and Dance Central on there for comic relief, right?
