"but the release PS3 days of Resistance, Moterstorm and Warhawk were far better than anything that followed."

What? Motorstorm PR was better than the original, and Killzone 2 was better than any of the games you mentioned. Even if your tastes are a little different than mine, you have to concede that both of those titles are great exclusives with superlative online experiences.

I do agree though that things have been a little slow since then. Unc...

Yep. Bioshock is the first game that springs to mind when you mention "great beginnings." Just stellar.

One plantinum that never comes up in these discussions, but probably deserves mention at least, is Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Finishing first in all the offline races is hard as hell considering that the AI racers blatantly cheat during the last dozen or so events. Then you have to beat developer times in 100+ time trials, most of which are extremely easy but a few are insanely hard and will require 25+ attempts each, at least.

Then you have the online trophies. This is t...

That was honestly one my favorite trophies ever. Dead Space 2 wasn't particularly hard, even in Hardcore mode, but the pressure to not screw up after 90 minutes of meticulously playing your way up to a key scene really made it into an entirely different game. This was way WAY better than your standard "Get X kills with Y weapon" trophy. It brilliantly took the game a couple steps toward its survival horror roots.

Too bad they decided to go and ruin it all wit...

Dont' take my comment the wrong way -- I love both Souls games (my avatar is the dual-katana black skeleton). They're challenging. But in most cases, the run-of-the-mill enemies you face getting to the boss are tougher than the boss itself.

And like I said, this franchise does have some of all-time epic bosses. The Ornstein and Smough fight in particular is probably my single favorite boss fight ever.

It's worth pointing out that part of the reason why the Souls series works so well is because so many of its bosses are ridiculously easy. Has anybody ever died to Fools Idol? The real boss of that level is the invisible sniper who OHKs you if you foolishly leave your shield down on your way to the boss area.

If every boss in those games was as hard as Flamelurker or Maneater or Ornstein & Smough, it would be just too damn hard.

Although nothing b...

Bioware was definitely not under any obligation to change their crappy ending. It was absolutely their right to leave it the way it was if they wanted to.

By the same token, it was also my right to say plainly that the ending to Mass Effect 3 sucked. And no, I don't have to respect them for undercutting the entire point of the franchise by constructing an ending in which none of the choices I made mattered. That was a betrayal of their own artistic vision.

"I did notice, however, that downloading Dawnguard meant slower loading and saving times. It happens. My console has also frozen more frequently. This occured with the add-ons for Oblivion as well, so I’m thinking it’s probably an issue with the console."

Will not buy if this is an issue for the PS3 release, which it probably will be given Bethesda's track record.

Meh. One month is no big deal.

Yep, these should be free on PS+ for the three people who haven't already played them. Actually, anybody who hasn't played these already should be banned from PS+ until they do.

I've been done with this game for months. Bioware can do whatever they want with the ending -- I'm not going to bother with it regardless. Too late.

Roger Ebert isn't my favorite film critic, but he's basically right about video games not being art. I can think of only a couple games I've ever played that had any real intellectual value (Bioshock would be one). Most games are either mindless shoot-em-ups or mindless button-mashers. That's fine -- there's nothing wrong with having one of your hobbies be something free of intellectualism. But there's no reason to pretend it's anything other than that.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I really liked U3's multiplayer -- I didn't expect to, but I ended up getting 20 or so hours out of it.

But that's the exception. I honestly can't think of any other franchise that a) started out as SP-only, b) added a multiplayer mode to a subsequent entry in the franchise, and c) said online mode not sucking. I'm sure there are others that I'm unaware of, but they sure as hell aren't Bioshock, Dead ...

Does G4 really need to inflate its hits that badly that it needs a separate page for every game? That's weak.

Why release stuff like this in October? You'd think these sorts of retro releases would be good summer launches, when the cupboard is bare otherwise.

Agree 100%. I Platinumed the first two games, but I won't buy this one until it shows up in the bargain bin.

Dead Space.

Co-op = no buy. At least not until it hits the bargain bin. I don't feel like babysitting Sheva again.
