I don't see why 4k is being included in the fanboy wars. 4k is not a Sony technology.
As a pc gamer that had a PS3. I can honestly say pc gamers aren't missing out on anything you listed. The last of us looks interesting and Uncharted 1 and 2 was worth a play but those other titles are crap.
I'd rather not be without my pc because as most pc gamers know. You never know when something like DayZ or Minecraft comes along. When a mod on PC hits. It usually comes without warning and catches the industry by surprise.
I won't even get int...
mid range is still more powerful than the rumored next-gen console specs.
mid-range is still quad core with at least gtx570/hd7870
If you remember Activision had BO2 marketed the same way.
Please don't buy into their BS
The thing is. You guys actually do listen to IGN. They wouldn't be the top dog of the gaming journalist industry if you guys didn't.
Left 4 dead, counter strike, team fortress, dayZ the zombie shooter culture in general thrived in cs before cod world at war and left 4 dead made it a thing.
These all started off as mods along with desert combat which in my opinion started the modern warfare shooter culture we are in now.
The sad state of gaming we are in now has devs locking down engines for dlc and stifling innovation which is a huge reason there is modern shooter fatigue in the industry...
Thing about 4k is It's not a Sony tech. this is
a resolution that's been a long time coming in the tech world pc monitors have long since surpassed 1080p for years and with eyefinity resolutions 4k can be surpassed
Steam is mainstream pc gaming. Valve is now backing Linux with its own hardware. All serious PC developers will now back PC gaming/Valve with Linux gaming software. It's really that simple.
exactly right?
a console that allows you to install windows
on top of this nifty bit
Newell's plans for the Steam Box's future are ambitious. He plans on having it support more than two screens, running multiple instances of games, stating, "The Steam Box will also be a server. Any PC can serve multiple monitors, so over time, the next-generation (post-Kepler) you can have one GPU that’s serving up eight simultaneous game calls...
@Piroh
Gabens already gone and said that this isn't meant to isolate pc gamers. If you own a good gaming pc then you don't need a steam box.
Apparently he now is. Taken from Toms Hardware article
http://www.tomshardware.com...
First, the notion that this is the Steam Box is false. Rather, there will be a variety of different Steam Boxes as Valve is working with various partners to develop a variety of different "Steam Boxes." Newell explained that Valve would be working on its own version...
I agree. It would be best for M$ to capitalize on this and gain even more momentum going into next-gen. I'd imagine they could take at least a third of sony's marketshare.
Sony may have just blown off its own foot if this is implemented in PS4.
With Valve entering the market anyone that has read about or heard about the steambox has just made their decision.
Your right. However with consoles being locked to begin with there are no cracks to download. This is DRM in its perfect form.
I don't think there's a console exclusive that can top Planetside 2 or DayZ...
1 is free and the other is a free mod....
just saying.
what if Halo came out on ps4. or Uncharted came out on Nextbox.
That's pretty much how far out there that question is. Valve controls the pc gaming industry as it stands. They are simply making a locked down pc that even console gamers can use.
"I'm still wondering why Valve didn't ally with current console makers."
You'd quickly understand why as Sony or M$ SOP go against Valve's policy on Patching, DLC, and sales.
My guess would be upgradeable HDD's only. Using regular laptop hard drives most likely.
Take a look at the industry today. Most developers have to optimize for many many different pc builds. They like the one size fits all approach that comes with the console. I believe the new minimum requirements for pc gaming will be getting it to run on the steam box.
They already have everything in place for modding with the steam workshop. I don't expect the kind of configuring we do currently on pc for mods and such to be allowed on the steam box. BUT the workshop I imagine will be how the moddings done.
contradict yourself much?
