Multiplayer is a huge risk nowadays. You can have a great singleplayer game but if your multiplayer side feels generic it will cost devs a lower metacritic average.
Publishers and developers are in the same mindset they were in a few years back. That multiplayer automatically means more money. but with gamers and reviewers becoming more jaded with each generic multiplayer release. It's gonna end up biting them in the ass.
But then you'd be able to play the even better pc exclusives
So valve and epic supported kinect?
News to me
All it takes is a good idea on pc. Dayz sold 2 million Arma 2 copies. A game that sold only 200k before Dayz came out. This was two years prior
the biggest selling release other than cod in its first week belongs to Diablo 3
the main reason publishers have a hard time on pc is because console ports are games that don't bring anything new to the pc side. Pc gamers generally don't buy into mediocrity
2nd to last paragraph was all that needed to be said. LoL is where it is due to how they approached f2p. Planetside 2 has done it right.
Crytek under the management of EA will doomed to fail. I won't spend a penny on a f2p game as long as EA is the boss
It's quite interesting that the entire list outside Halo started off as PC exclusive.
a clan system being the reason why a mp shooter defined a gen?
...yeaaa no
Cod4 defined MP shooter this gen. BC/BC2 opened up the genre as far as depth. Battlefield 3 ended the generation. Dayz defined how far we've come.
Killzone 2 implemented game modes that have been in place for years. sluggish controls and low fps ensured the Killzone franchise remained average this gen. A next-gen Killzone title will consist of a higher resolution, ...
Actually they aren't. Cevat Yerli admitted as much with the way they handled Crysis 2. They went all in on console and he admitted to it biting them in the ass.
Planetside 2 is a free 2 play done right. It's the model every dev wanting to jump into the f2p market should follow.
Once metacritic starts using internet traffic statistics to filter out the no name hit piece reviews (giving games a 4 or 5 for the sake of hits) then it might be useful.
I think Metacritic should only use the top 50 gaming sites based on traffic and even go as far as to list them in order. gaming review sites would be at risk of losing their metacritic scoring should they piss off gamers by putting out troll reviews or upcoming sites rise in popularity due to honest indepth...
going into next gen steam will have its 50 million and counting user base. Consoles will have to start over. Pretty sure that's going to be on the mind of developers and publishers.
There's also no word on backwards compatibility yet. If M$ or Sony won't do it then PC looks even more lucrative for hardcore gamers with steambox around the corner.
doesn't matter. I don't expect next-gen console games to look any different then the games I've played on high end pc's for the last 3 years. I'm not disappointed by all means. It just means developers will start taking advantage of hardware again.
Finally be rid of these current gen crap textures in my games.
I just hope next-gen consoles can push 60fps @ 1080p. You will find devs that can and devs that can't or don't want to. M...
and medal of honor...well that lasted about a day but still
said no pc gamer ever
As someone who's played battlefield since 42 pre release demo. With the failure of medal of honor and the crappy bf3 singleplayer I worry about this now dlc induced franchise managed under EA. They will pin all their hopes on bf4 along with the direction they wanted medal of honor to take. This will be the first battlefield game I don't preorder
You obviously missed the period where the past wasn't selling due to mediocrity
The only pc gamers that are still on xp are the f2p pc gamers or source only gamers. Not a knock on them but its time they upgraded their pc and os
It's bull that they've successfully placed the blame on these shootings on video games. Some people may not agree but Joe Biden and the discussion that took place and this act. It was all for the administration to have a scapegoat so that they can say "see we are doing something about this."
LOL has more people playing it at one time then any console game.
Wrong. Ff14 is proof enough that its simply a lack of talent and creativity at fault here.
from what I've gathered through various articles is that developers in Japan see SE as the most stable place to be.
I.E they are boring salarymen posing as developers. SE will never reclaim its place in the industry. The core of the company now consists of workers who lack ambition and vision and just need to make ends meet.
