They over-estimated what price the market would support and have now admitted their mistake and corrected it.

That’s totally not what happened though 🤦♂️. Sony updated their own article, not IGN. IGNs article came after Sony’s announcement.
Sony announced the fact that there was no next gen upgrade and you had to buy a special edition to get a cross-gen bundle - not IGN.
A Sony blog post on PlayStation.com is obviously an official statement.

I gave them praise for reversing this decision.
But I also see it as the same BS Microsoft pulled with XBL gold - they still tried it and thought they would get away with it - and will likely try similar things in the future.
A very welcome 180. This is why we as gamers should be more vocal and not just accept BS that gets thrown at us by the big companies.
We’ve now defeated an XBL gold price hike and rip-off cross gen bundles.
Sad to see them only commit to paid upgrades for future games though…
@F0XH0UND922 I said Rift Apart was good, PN was just more fun due to the level design, special powers and collectibles etc.
A die hard Xbox fan wouldn’t have a P.S. :) so I guess I’m not a die hard fan :(
Rift Apart was good, but honestly, I had a lot more fun with Psychonauts 2.

Right... but that is still optional. You can still play the most recent version on the most recent hardware for $60.
You don't have to pay extra for a 'next gen' version, nor are Nintendo doing it during a time where they KNOW people will be playing games on PS4 and PS5 due to the on-going generation migration / overlap.
Nintendo don't charge for cross-gen bundles, Microsoft don't either. Heck, even Activision and EA handled cross-gen...
@VersusDMC The digital version of the Pokemon double pack is not tied to your account. One copy is tied, the other is given as a 5x5 code:
