@ApocalypseShadow I asked Microsoft when Starfield is coming out, the exact day, and they answered: https://bethesda.net/en/gam...
11.11.22
🤷 Announced more than a year before release.
Anyway, people have the right to ask for whatever they want - we are the consumers who are ultimately paying for their product and funding them - and given their past record,...
And yet, every year, we all get hyped, tune in en masse and share a ton of articles - yourself included.
Can't be that dead.
Yeah... feels a little bit pre-emptive, especially while CES is on-going right now in-person and GDC is seemingly still taking place in-person in March.
@SurgicalMenace Consumers don't care about how successful a system is, unless they're a shareholder. They care about the hardware, software and services meeting their wishes.
Like gee, if it's only about how successful the platform is and how much money it makes the platform holder - maybe we should just have no back compat for PS4 games on PS5 and we should pay $100 for games?
@Mr_Writer You've stretched a bit there, for example most PS3 ...
"'Well, I want it to play everything and emulate games from other platforms.' /S They should get a PC for that."
So gamers are no longer allowed to request features? We should just take whatever Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo throw at us? Okay then.
"As for BC, it would be great. But not a deal breaker since both headsets play on PS5"
It kind of is important though, otherwise someone who wants to experience the enti...
@Teflon02 Yep, I expect more info around GDC (via dev leaks) or E3 as a general announcement.
@dbcoops Yet it is still 100% reasonable to ask. If it doesn't support back compat, perhaps some articles like this will make them reconsider.
It wasn’t removed due to space or resources - it used basically nothing unless you chose to use it. It was removed due to piracy.
Again though, my comment is correct - most people didn’t buy a PS3 for otherOS just like most people don’t buy an Xbox for dev mode.
Did I like otherOS? Yes, linux on PS3 was pretty cool. And it was advertised as a key feature to appeal to people like me.
Anyway, it looks like devmode is here to stay, so ther...
@CaptainHenry Some people don’t wanna spend hours at a desk, gaming chair or not. Or prefer to sit in their living room, on their couch, with friends and family.
It’s one of the main benefits of console gaming.
"sounds like someone trying stire the pot like the ps5 confusion"
Asking about BC is a fair question, people are going to be sinking likely $400-$500 into this device, it SHOULD have back compat and Sony don't exactly have the best track record there - and Sony obviously already know the answer, back compat support isn't something you tack on in the final month.
Sad news, I started to follow his work when JAW were given the Oddworld remake project and continued to follow their work afterwards. He was one of the good guys in the industry - RIP.
Are there? I can't think of an easier way aside from playing on an actual PS2 - and that isn't cheap.
Not everyone wants to sit at a desk using a PC. Console is far easier and more comfortable.
"emulation is native on PC"
That's quite an oxymoron there :P
See above, I want to play on my couch, without the hassle of setting up a PC, using mice and keyboards etc. Far easier on console.
I want to do it sitting on a couch, on my big TV, without much setup or having to use keyboards and mice etc. Far easier to do that on a console.
@dbcoops Reading comprehension is hard, huh?
Where did I say tons knew about OtherOS? What I said was, dev mode is not the primary reason people buy a Xbox consoles, similarly, OtherOS was not the primary reason most people bought a PS3.
@Eidolon The key difference w/ OtherOS is they actually advertised it... and then yanked it. Microsoft didn't officially advertise emulation (or devmode) as a feature of the Xbox. It's not about being entitled, it...
Source? 95+% of console gamers probably don’t even know how to setup dev mode, FTP client and server, and retroarch.
I play on PS5 primarily and PC secondarily (for RTS and a few FPS/PC only games like Ready or Not).
So for me the reason to buy an S would be for emulation - I enjoy going back and playing PS1, PS2, GameCube etc.
Good. I will one day buy a Series S for emulation / dev mode.
If they were to pull it, I’m out. Don’t do a Sony with Other OS…
Because the publisher negotiated a deal that basically stopped the developer getting royalties… welcome to greedy publishers.
In this case Ubisoft are both the publisher and developer, so that won’t happen.
Microsoft have never done well in Japan so this isn’t surprising - the more interesting thing here is that PS sales combined are being outsold 5x by Switch in Sony’s own backyard.
The Switch and Nintendo have completely taken over Japan.
They need to update the national flag to be a Switch :p
