I doubt 56% even know what NFTs are or they just know it as a buzz word.
No need to provide a quote, MS already confirmed future Zenimax games such as Starfield will be exclusive to Xbox + PC. It's a well known fact at this point - anyone saying otherwise is in denial.
That sets a precedent for how they'll approach this acquisition.
Apex and R6S don’t even come remotely close to COD or Warzone - in experience or player count. Heck, I wouldn’t even put them in the same tier as shooters like BF and COD.
As for Fortnite, Fortnite is great if you’re 10 years old. I am not.
Okay, show me the quote where he unequivocally states that Activision games will be on my PS5 going forward - and Zenimax games too if you have it.
You are correct, I am doubting an analysis of a $70,000,000,000 deal based on actual events which are taking place with the same company having made a similar acquisition.
Also, multiple Microsoft & Zenimax execs have confirmed it is exclusive. There's quite a bit more than a 'tweet'.
Which was an existing signed contract. Microsoft said they would honor existing contracts, and they've said the same here with Activision.
Is Starfield coming to PS? No. So the first new/non-prior-contract Zenimax title already showed how they plan to approach Zenimax games going forward.
This^
How many console sales are by people just playing COD and annual sports games? I know plenty of people who only play COD & FIFA/MLB/NBA/NHL/Madden year in year out.
Those people don't care whether they buy a Playstation or an Xbox - they care about where they can get those games, and that may very well only be Xbox in the future for COD.
You could even argue sports franchises are more accessible on Xbox thanks to GamePass ...
My expectation is that they will keep COD Warzone on PS. That's way too big of a cash cow to pull plus it's already there - they will not pull existing games. They will just add game pass monthly free items like they do with Halo F2P.
I think new COD titles going to PS is 50/50. Smaller/less revenue driving (future, not existing) titles such as Tony Hawk, Diablo, Crash, Spyro etc. I expect will be exclusive.
Analysts said the exact same thing during the Zenimax acquisition. Look how well that aged.
The many millions of people who buy/play Activision games every year on PS would disagree with you, myself included.
And it’s not even just the big ones like COD - if anything, the smaller revenue games are more likely to be exclusive - so we may not see franchises like Crash and Spyro on PS again, the platform where they began.
You’re downplaying, and that’s fine. But clearly this purchase has huge ramifications throughout the industry.
This 100%. He’s going to ride off into the distance, having been responsible for a terrible work culture at Activision, with a big fat payout.
I guess we should just be glad he’s gone.
Yep. And on console and PC.
It’s almost like games companies want to make money off of all devices 😱
Microsoft weren't lying when they said they view Amazon, Google, Tencent etc as the competition and not Sony/Nintendo.
Eventually, Sony and Nintendo will be edged out by these huge tech giants and ultimately become software houses like Sega rather than hardware manufacturers.
Microsoft are lining themselves up for that world, ahead of time, to compete against other US and Chinese tech giants in the gaming space.
Battlefield and COD Vanguard for me. Both were very disappointing.
GTA was pretty broken at launch, but I still had great fun with it, mainly for nostalgia reasons.
A lot of people also play COD...
Bungie are not part of Activision. They are fully independent, but in the past had a publishing relationship with Activision - but were never officially part of them.
But again:
1. Federal law changes are not retroactively applied in the US
2. This deal will close before the government even makes any change. Not sure if you're American or not, but our government does NOTHING quick.
Also it's cute that you think the fed gov actually listens to us :P
Any hope of this deal being scuttled by the (heavily bought and paid for) Federal government is a pipe dream. Microsoft and Activision (or rather their lawyers and lobbyists) will obviously have done their ground work and research to see how likely this is to pass before striking such deal.
Also, any changes made by the FTC won't apply retroactively... that's how the US govt works. Plus, the government is slow as hell, don't expect any changes for years if they ...
Desire is an interesting choice of words. It could mean full out games, or it could mean just Warzone, or it could be a push to try to force Sony to allow GamePass on their console.
Or it could also just be trying to convince regulators they’re going to play ball.
I don’t expect we’ll find out solid details until the deal closes which is still far out.
