That is true, but is also standard for content subscription services. You know what you are signing up for when you subscribe to such a service, it's the same with PSNow, Netflix, Hulu, Spotify etc.
The key difference for me here is that I am paying $70 for a game on a disk, and then I cannot play what are typically offline gamemodes, without being online. Even if I fully install/download the game, I still have to be online.
Sort of.
They have pulled GT7 (supposedly, they haven't actually made an official announcement). But the parent company has not made a statement about products and services, so things like PS consoles will still be sold there.
MS has announced a complete blanket ban on sales of all new MS products and services in Russia. Sony & Nintendo should do the same (as well as the major developers & publishers etc).
Granted, you could...
What have Forza and GamePass got to do with GT7? Gran Turismo isn't Forza, nor is it on GamePass.
If you're suggesting that GP is 'always online' - it is not... you can play games offline. I can't speak for every Forza game, but Forza Horizon 5 has very limited addon content - a season pass (which is $30 and contains 42 vehicles). We'll probably see full expansion packs (with a new map and festival) at some point.
Are we now defend...
Great move. All games companies should get on the same page here.
That was just V1. You get various iterations of devkits through hardware bring up. Eventually getting closer and closer to the 'real thing'.
This is just the next iteration of the PSVR2 devkits. Throughout new hardware bring up, you get multiple versions of devkits shipped out.
We won't be seeing a PS5 slim or pro for a while yet, given the supply issues. Same goes for Xbox.
Since when was 40 euros for a game from 2013, which you've probably already bought multiple times, 'pretty good'?
The upgrade should be free for anyone who owns the PS4/XB1 version - but R* are greedy so we know it won't be.
So the game is always online and includes abhorrently priced microtransactions? PS/GT has officially gone full live service game. Congrats.
Sort of. Driveclub at least still has its singleplayer content accessible. GT7 has locked what would typically be offline modes behind an online wall. There is zero justifiable reason for these offline modes to be locked behind such wall.
The size of the company/developer is irrelevant, you could say the same about Microsoft, the odds of them going bankrupt/shutting down services is small, but what they tried in 2013 was still a terrible idea. It was a terrible idea in 2013...
The game looks incredible, GT is back baby. RIP GT Sport.
The 27 minute mark is worrying though, online DRM is back too. Very little content is actually accessible when the game is offline/servers are down, and Sony don't have the best track record with keeping up game servers long term.
We definitely need an RECV remake, more so than RE4 which they're rumored to be working on (but I get why they would work on that first given how big of a success it was).
RE0 is hit and miss for me, it wasn't that fun IMO, but if they tweaked the item system it might be more enjoyable.
If by developers, you mean the huge corporations employing developers, sure. The actual developers aren't seeing a cent of those paid upgrades.
"cost of these updates was likely negligible"
That's inaccurate. Even the smallest change to core systems in a video game incurs large costs such as having to re-QA the entire game, having to go through certification again, etc.
Just because you're upgrading your engine doe...
Capcom out here showing everyone how it's done. 3 free next-gen upgrades, for games going as far back as 2017.
These games already looked excellent, perhaps even ahead of their time on last-gen, so I'm excited to see how they look on next-gen. As someone who speedruns RE, I'd love a 120hz mode - and it looks like that is included.
What's with all the big racing games struggling to have raytracing during gameplay? It should be easier for them than most games...
Forza Motorsport this year may have it, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.
Best Destiny campaign maybe, best FPS campaign? No chance.
@alb1899 Not everyone who buys a next gen console is going to go buy a high end LG/Samsung TV with VRR.
Plenty of people will spend $300-500 on a next-gen console and a similarly priced TV, or keep their TV from last gen.
Hard to say either next gen console has 'won' here when:
- On PS5, the best way to play is to skip the PS5 version and play the PS4 version instead
- On Xbox Series, you need a very high-end TV
Neither of those are wins.
Also, if you bought the disk, you cannot go back and play the PS4 pro version.
Well that's not really a surprise - he's easily the most recognizable video game character. Actually, the majority of the mainstream well known ones are likely Nintendo characters.
The best ways to play (for performance mode) are apparently:
- PS4 version on a PS5
- XSX with a VRR capable display
I've said it before and I'll say it again - we need that VRR update on PS5 ASAP.
It should've been second in line after the expandable storage support. I shouldn't have to play a last-gen version on my $500 next-gen console just to avoid frame stutters.
So many horrifying stories out of Activision. Hopefully Microsoft can bring their own culture & clean them up, for the sake of the employees if nothing else.
