We’re talking about retail sales. $100 is a big difference at retail. So it’s two separate products too - Switch is three.
They could split out the two Xboxes, two PS and three switches but at the end of the day, why does it matter?
A sale is a sale. If someone buys a switch of any variant, it’s still a switch.
Only 5mil, no where near as big a gap as the start of last gen or what people expected the gap to be after the PS4s success - although Sony being increasingly anti-consumer this time around probably helped Xbox gain ground (plus GamePass and their acquisitions).
But the reality is that the Switch is the real winner here - it is consistently destroying PlayStation and Xbox.
Then we should also stop grouping up the two PS5 models and the 3 Switch models.
Heck yes. I did not expect to see this today (or ever).
GamePass is great value for us consumers - and it gets better and better every year.
Heck, even Sony are trying to copy it now.
"support the developers"
So you're telling me developers put their games into GamePass for free? Weird. You'd think they would want payment /s
Xbox Series outselling PS5 in NA almost 2:1 is interesting. Switch continues to be king though (unsurprisingly).
@Knushwood Whether I play GT7 or not is irrelevant (not that you can prove either way anyway).
I care about the overall state of the industry, especially as it relates to us consumers.
@Charal Which is the standard scenario for any digital title, but once acquired, you can play offline.
You can go to Walmart and buy GT7 and you will never be able to play the singleplayer 'campaign' offline... That is not a standard scenario and is unacceptable. It was unacceptable when MS tried it back in 2013, and it's still unacceptable when Sony did it in 2022. No excuses.
@SuperStan It went down within a week of release. What happens whe...
This is a game that requires an internet connection at all times when playing single player.
That’s not the same as GamePass at all. 99% of game pass games work offline.
It also didn’t age well when everyone was unable to play single player modes for over a day within the first week after launch because the servers had issues.
@S2killinit Egregious MTX in a $70 game is far, far worse than the MTX in any GamePass game today.
And yes, Sony are making games - games with always online single player modes, tons of microtransactions and then pricing them at $70 🤦♂️
@Knushwood Cat ears are optional cosmetics, cars are not optional in a racing game.
“ The fact that Sony is still all in, there's no way this ends up as vaporware. ”
Are they though? We had a blog post that was it, has Sony even mentioned this game in recent times?
It should and will come back in 2023.
There’s no other avenue for consumers to try out the latest and greatest games and hardware before release.
Geoff Keighley showing off games on YouTube is not a replacement for E3 and never will be.
Except it didn’t - it actually had its highest attendance numbers in the years leading up to COVID.
Sony were still on the show floor - Nintendo too. The games on the floor are the main reason people attend.
Also the reality is, first party exclusives are not even 5% of what was playable at E3. Most of the content was third party.
But Sony are doing GAAS and some of the most egregious microtransactions without GamePass 🤔
They review all acquisitions of this size, it's standard procedure. Also 3-4 senators being unhappy about it isn't enough to block it.
I'm definitely of the opinion that MS should fix the issues at ATVI, even if it means firing half the company, the issues we've seen described are abhorrent. Hopefully my comment didn't imply otherwise.
Realistically though, I don't expect much from the federal government when it comes to reviewing this deal, with regards to the behavior at ATVI or the financial/market implications of the deal.
But I'd also hope MS would take action to...
They must not be shareholders like the rest of congress :P
But in reality, nothing will come of this. Sanders, Warren etc. are typically outsiders in congress. This deal is going to sail through the feds.
@anast The reason for which they purchase the console is irrelevant, a sale is a sale.
We all expected the PS5 to wipe the floor with the other consoles given the success of the PS4 - thus far, that has not happened, in fact this week PS5 is in dead last of the 3 current gen consoles.
Can't argue against facts 🤷
