Your logic is overall sound, but movies don't actually cost 300-500 mil. (Avatar did, but that was, as you know, an anomaly)

An summer blockbuster is around $100mil avg.
But yeah, still much higher than your average AAA videogame ($40-60mil)

Because, yes, the Wii has sold a shitload.

But please name a publisher (OTHER THAN NINTENDO) that has been able to launch a title on the Wii to success.

Trust me, the publishers have all now realized that they've been duped by all the hype about the Wii. Just look at their roadmap; they have NOTHING for that console anymore.

Just shows that you haven't played FPSs for long.

And blaming everything on CoD is just a cop-out.

It's got nothing to do with CoD. It's a basic matter of game-design, and interface design. Also, who says that the "whiners" are noobs? I was consistently in top 5 in every game (usually top 3), but that doesn't change the fact that the controls are fucked up.

Seriously, you're the noob here, you newbie-to-gaming...

Thanks for spelling it out for us.
Well said. Bubbles.

Two problems with KZ2's controls:

1) Pistols feel as "heavy" as a rocket launcher. Noone has yet to provide a sensible explanation to this obviously inconsistent implementation. (if the feel was different from weapon-to-weapon, then I'd buy their explanation; but it's not and it's proof that the "heavy" argument is just a cover-up for poor programming)

2) Having used both pistols and rifles IRL, I can tell you the "h...

Don't you think that alone is proof that the controls are flawed? Controls should make it EASY for you to do what you want to do, not take another learning curve once you take a break.

Hadn't thought of it that way.

I guess I'm still stuck in the 90s mentality. ;)

PS3 fanboys?

Hey just because the XBox needs a NEXT GEN system to finally compete with the PS3, doesn't mean you get to call everyone else a PS3 fanboy.

Besides, Uncharted 1 came out only a year after the PS3 came out, and had already achieved something the 360 has yet to match.

Also, yes, the PS3 may only have "four games".
But that's still four times more than what the 360 has; "Halo".

You're giving him the benefit of the doubt, obviously.
And yes, that's exactly what he's saying.

But this isn't like holding off on the iPhone 4 because you know something better will come out in 6 months.

He's talking about skipping flatscreen 3DTVs altogether because somebody will eventually invent some new technology that noone has heard of. I mean, when is THAT going to come out at a REASONABLE PRICE? 4 years? 5 years? That...

Thank god that not everyone on the internet is as stupid as the writer of this article.

Like someone else already stated, a 3DTV is just an HDTV capable of running at 240hz. But "240hz HDTV" just isn't a marketable term so they instead choose to say "3DTV".

Yes, the units are still outrageously expensive.
But then again so were the 480p Plasma TVs 5 years ago.

So, perhaps what Ubisoft should have said was &quo...

Guys, remember the Conduit? I'd say that was one of the few games that had all non-Wii-owning hardcore gamers' attention because of the point-and-shoot mechanics (among other reasons).

I think Move can easily turn this into something great for the "hardcore". No more analog-stick aiming. Now consoles finally have their MOUSE!

I mean from what I hear, even RE5 is a better game because of the Move implementation, and that game wasn't th...

My thoughts exactly. If anything, their mistake was to release it so closely to the 360, so the hardware advantage was not OBVIOUS to the average American consumer (b/c America is the only country where people were swayed by MSFT's bullshit claim that the 360 was on par with the PS3 in terms of hardware).

By giving it a couple of years in between, they not only allow the machine to be even higher-specced, but also people will be less likely to claim that their 2-year-old...

if you read the article, then you'll see that he blamed it on the casual / peripheral decline. which has nothing to do with the popularity of the PS2, but rather the fact that cheap gamers (aka casual gamers) have moved on.

i'm not saying that the PS2 wasn't popular. all I'm saying is the actual quote provides an entirely different view.

LOL at you. Just repeating the same old talking points that are entirely irrelevant and untrue.

Yes, it costs exponentially more money to make a FULL HD game (1080p that is). But that's not what I was saying at all. Demon Blade's assets suffer from the 480p output. You might be right in that the underlying assets may not be detailed enough for 1080p or 720p, but even if they ran it at only 640p, it'd still look drastically clearer than what it does right now.

On a logical, isolated sense, I agree with you that the blame shouldn't be put on the game, but management itself. Yes, if you really want to be cold about it, Koei should have just fired half their staff, instead of hoping that DW3 would make enough money to cover all their ongoing (non-dev) expenses.

But that's not quite a realistic approach now, is it?

Let me put it in another way. It costs Activision 800 million dollars to keep all the non-developer staff emplo...

BTW if you think a system should be considered "hardcore" because it lets you play games that USED TO be considered hardcore twenty years ago, then you have many MANY issues you need to come to terms with.

Being a hardcore gamer does not mean you play the same "hardcore" game for thirty years. Generally, it implies that you stay current with what's happening in the gaming world, and playing a modified GameCube in 2010 does not translate to "staying curre...

... with the Wii is the lack of HD.

If you really think that resolution doesn't matter, I dare you to downgrade your TV to a 27inch CRT, and reset your computer resolution to 640x480 from today, and never upgrade.

Resolution is arguably THE MOST important technical aspect for ANYTHING that has to do with visuals.

Yes, some of the Wii games are great; I'll give you that. But if you think the games are just as good in SD as they would be in HD, then you'r...

I try not to say this in public, but since we have two people who already stepped out of the closet, let me join in.

Demon Blade Muramasa is perhaps THE MOST beautiful game I've played in recent years (actually, correction; I made my wife play it while I work on DA:O). But I'm constantly cringing at the 480p graphics because I KNOW their assets could have supported 720p or 1080p (they're scanned 2D artwork). Had that been on either the 360 or PS3, I would have insisted on playi...
