Also if he's every built anything before, he'd know how hard it is to actually make something. A (moving) car is like up there in terms of difficulty.

People who've never played MGS4 seem to be enjoying/appreciating the game just fine. People who are closed-minded, OTOH, may not like it although they've never actually played the game.

No I already played through the game twice and am perfectly content with MGO on the PS3, but I am still very curious as to what this game would look like on the 360.

At the same time... I have a feeling that it won't do as well as it did on the PS3 (sales-wise). Not only do I think some 360 users have negative views toward the series, but also one would need to realize that by the time this game comes out on the 360, the game would already be over a year old.

So...

What he probably means is that each game in the series was developed and released on a single system in the past (and ports usually followed much later), therefore allowing development to focus on traits of the one system it was being developed for.

For example, the SNES Final Fantasies didn't haven't worry about Sega's machine. Instead, Squaresoft only needed to focus on how to maximize the SNES hardware. Similarly, FF7 didn't have to worry about the N64 (and its 64MB storag...

You would be right except SE had repeatedly stated in the past that FF13 was a PS3 exclusive. That's the main problem.

Two problems with that CNet article (and that Don guy really has no clue... this isn't the first time he posted something completely far-fetched and disconnected from facts):

1) Sony's gaming division is one of the few divisions at Sony that's making money ("profitable"). So I don't know how he thought he'd get away with a statement like "with the gaming division draining investor confidence". If anything, the gaming division is the only division keeping t...

Used work for an Anime publisher in NY, and now I work for a Videogame publisher on the West Coast; the two industries are practically indentical from a business perspective, actually. So, yeah... I'm not too close to Wall Street, and not too close to retail either. And yes, I "get paid" to deal with numbers, and I don't need to speculate when it comes to these things; the facts stare right at my face on a daily basis.

I write mostly to make sure misinformation does...

And this is something I touched on before.
The term "install base" is very misleading.

They only represent the number of units sold to consumers, and not actually the number of people actually using the system. It would be best if we could measure the "active (simultaneous) user base" for a console, but that is just impossible at this point. (maybe 3-5 years from now we'll see something; mostly based on online activity)

Basically, we a...

1) Halo 3 would NOT have sold as much without the marketing, but then again much of its revenue was absorbed by that marketing, so from a profit/ROI standpoint, you can't assume Halo 3 made more money than MGS4. It DID, however ensure an extremely large online community and that more people bought 360s, so I wouldn't necessarily say it was a bad thing. Plus I liked seeing Halo 3 trailers at the theaters. It made my pee pee tingle.

2) The current version of MGS4 will probably...

I think you guys don't understand how companies ship their products, or how the sales process works. You CANNOT assume that MGS4 shipped 1.5 million more units (or even just 1 million) in July UNLESS MGS4 was sold out everywhere (and it wasn't).

Publishers SHIP to distributors. They ship enough to cover about 60-90 days worth of sales (based on what they together estimate will sell through). And unless that stock gets depleted (or nearly depleted), the distributor DOES NOT B...

6513d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

Actually, the numbers make perfect sense (4 mill shipped vs. 3 mill sold-through) based on the average industry returns rate AND considering the time-lag between shipment and sales.

Most entertainment-based industries maintain a return reserve of 20% (I hope you're familiar with this term). So, based on Konami's numbers, one can expect that 3.2 million units will EVENTUALLY sell-through, and that the rest will either come back to Konami as unsold products, or just rot on the s...

Ju, I had the same thought, and although I was tempted to get a second 360, I ended up getting this bundle first. It's my 2nd PS3, and it's for my GF.

Ironically, I argued last year that BC was practically meaningless because people don't really play PS2 games on their PS3s (and I haven't done it myself since buying my first one at launch). But BC ended up being the very reason why I bought this bundle...JUST IN CASE!

As much as I enjoy the occasional xbox-bashing, this is not true.

The gaming division actually happens to be one of Microsoft's few profitable divisions, and the 720 does have a great chance of keeping a decent marketshare against the PS3. (put aside the temptation to make fun of them for competing against the PS3 with TWO consoles; just look at the practicals for now)

If anything, the ones that appear to be jumping ship are those on the Windows/CorporateSW side...

As much as I would criticize the other companies for spinning news (like when Halo 3 was released and console sales doubled for the 360), I have to criticize this one for being short-sighted.

It's all about MGS4. This will not hold for too long. As a matter of fact, by the end of August, PS3 sales will return to pre-MGS4 level.

That said, perhaps MGS4 isn't the only factor. Wii sales ARE slowing down a bit (IN JAPAN). But that's mostly because people in Japan...

I really wish it were that simple. (and props to you if you had no problems with the KZ1 settings)

Yes, you move the stick right and it moves right, stick it left and it goes left. Of course I'm not talking about the basic functionality. What I'm talking about is how fast the cursor moves vs. how far you lean the stick, and how it is balanced across the full analog range of the stick. And that's not something you can adjust with the sensitivity setting alone (again, I wish ...

Especially about your last point.

I think people overlook the importance of CONTROLS, especially when it comes to console-FPSs. Unlike PC FPSs, Console FPSs can really suffer when the controls are bad. This is ESPECIALLY true for the aiming portion, and by that I am talking about the right-stick and the overall sensitivity curve for look-movement. (I hope this term makes sense)

I played Killzone for 20 seconds before deeming it trash. Reason? It had by far t...

After hearing about the 80GB (non)pricedrop coming this fall, I thought about it real hard and finally decided yesterday that this had the best value in the market (an R2 bundle would be nice but it may not have B/C).

So count me toward the Amazon tally.
It's my 2nd PS3, and my GF will be using it to play MGO with me. hehe...
