I purchased it when it was on sale for $15 on Steam a week or so ago and I was pleasantly surprised. It look pretty good and runs very well even on modest hardware and is definitely worth checking out on the PC, especially if it goes back on sale.
IGN's writing staff is pretty terrible.
Anyway, I'd assume The Last of Us will release first as Naughty Dog has a great track record with development cycles this generation.
GTA V will be using the same engine that was used in GTA IV with some new effects, and a lot of performance and quality enhancements.
True, but by the time these TVs are available in mass the PS4 and Xbox 720 should already be out. I don't really expect them to support 4k resolutions out of the box but who knows, there are already GPUs on the market capable of pushing high end games at such a resolution, and by the time the PS4 or 720 releases in late 2012 or in 2013 such a resolution shouldn't be too difficult to tackle assuming Sony and Microsoft don't go the Wii route next gen.
That price is still ridiculous though. I understand paying extra over the $324.80 the Vita currently costs when converting Yen to USD but $500 is quite a premium.
By the time GTA V comes out the Vita will be out in every market, and the Vita will be capable of running a version of GTA V that looks far better than what the 3DS is capable of.
As far as the Wii U goes, we haven't seen any actual games running on the hardware, and while it will likely be more powerful than the PS3/360 the Wii U's hardware still looks outdated next to contemporary PC hardware.
I can only see it using two GPUs if each is based on the GPU from the 360 or something, as a low cost next-gen console.
If talking about the single player campaigns, I disagree. With that said Uncharted 3 is a more complete package overall due to the inclusion of split-screen co-op, and the graphics are better.
It is also still a fantastic game and deserves a much higher score than 4/10.
Yes I'm aware, and I never claimed Gears of War 3 uses anti-aliasing.
Yes they are two different things, but not mutually exclusive. Gears of War 3 disables vert sync when the engine cannot maintain 30 fps resulting in torn frames, Uncharted 3 on the other hand never does this. Uncharted 2 and 3 both use vert sync and triple buffering.
I would say that the two consoles are actually pretty close, and the perfect example is Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3. Both games look fantastic but overall Uncharted 3 seems to have an advantage due to it's use of FXAA and vert sync to give the game an overall cleaner look.
Also there are some neat water effects we got to see in Uncharted 3 that aren't present in Gears of War 3 at all. On the flip side though Gears of War 3 has less input latency so it's not li...
I noticed it too and found the aiming to be a lot harder than it was in Uncharted 1 and 2, but the game was still enjoyable.
It did and made the score drop from 94 to 93, not that it matters that much.
I didn't read the full review, but the excerpt from metacritic says "Two years after Thieves, Uncharted's gameplay mechanics and conventions are no longer dated; they're borderline archaic."
This makes me wonder why they gave Gears of War 3 a perfect score, as it's gameplay mechanics didn't improve drastically from Gears 2 or 1 either.
Well this is good news for those hoping to have PS3 backwards compatibility.
That's not technically possible because the PS3's Blu-ray drive reads at a maximum of 9MB/s, but I get your point.
A 1.6GB install should only take a few minutes which is not a big deal.
@ superrey19
I'm not saying it's bad at all (the PC is my primary gaming platform) but he's exaggerating the power of PC hardware when it's unnecessary as it is already so far ahead.
@ Organization XII
The Geforce GTX 580, the most powerful single GPU on the market is around 10x as powerful as the GPUs in the PS3 or 360 (at least on paper) and it sells for between $450-600 depending on the manufacturer and what version (1.5GB or 3GB) you get.
lol right, or it wouldn't really be a "texture", it would be geometry. there are other effects like displacement mapping that can make textures look like they have real depth but they're still textures.
Kind of annoyed by this but I already pre-ordered the game and probably won't even use the code because I only care about the single player.
@ Kran
Sony doesn't have the same sort of clout that Apple does.
@ Jdoki
Except it's not even useful for downloading games as Sony has already said that they'll be limiting PSN downloads to 20MB over 3G.
Having LTE on the Vita would be nice, but let's be realistic, who really wants to pay $30-50 a month for a game console? You're better off rooting/jailbreaking your smart phone and tethering it with WiFi.
