Right, the Wii U's main memory is like 1600MHz DDR3 running on a 64-bit memory bus, so it's got about half the memory bandwidth of the PS3/360.
@Starfox17 the 32MB of eDRAM is hardly relevant as it's not very large. The 360 had 10MB of eDRAM that was very fast but again the size limited its usefulness without tiling.
Oh god yes, a next-gen Red Dead Redemption would be amazing, maybe set during the years John actually was a part of Dutch's gang. A new protagonist would be fine but I would like it if references to John or Dutch were included.
Well HDMI 2.0's specs are expected to release soon and it should offer enough bandwidth to support 4K at 60Hz, but for now DisplayPort is definitely superior for high resolutions.
I'm curious as to how they connected the TV to a PC. If it is via HDMI 1.4 it is limited to 30Hz at 3840x2160, and thus far I have not seen any of these 4K tvs with DisplayPort.
Or because they're switching to an x86 platform using AMD APUs, which are nowhere near fast enough to emulate something as complex as the PS3.
I doubt it was being planned for next-gen this entire time as the screen shots released by Rockstar were 1280x720 with like 2xAA which is the same as Red Dead Redemption on the 360.
When PS+ was first unveiled I admit that I was skeptical but now that I'm a subscriber I can say that it is definitely worth the price. Sure some of the features like the auto-updates and cloud save system should really be part of the default PSN package but the instant library feature is awesome and is easily worth the $50 a year.
HDMI 2.0 isn't going to be ready for devices until late 2013 at the earliest, HDMI 1.4 doesn't have enough bandwidth for 4K resolutions at 60Hz. The only standard that currently can handle 4K is DisplayPort, and none of the current 4K TVs support it, making them the most worthless displays in the history of worthlessness.
Maybe the fact that Resident Evil on the Gamecube uses pre-rendered backgrounds so the only thing actually being rendered are the character models. If you were to do the same thing on the PS3/360 we'd get games that look like Avatar, but again like old-Resident Evil games, it wouldn't be a very fluid gameplay experience and would rely on fixed camera angles.
Agreed, although I find it highly unlikely either system will have 4GB of DDR5 as the memory controller used in current AMD APUs does not have support for anything newer than DDR3 and that is not likely to change anytime soon, plus 4GB of GDDR5 would be fairly expensive and not all that useful on a console that won't be able to output in resolutions higher than 1080p at 60Hz.
Are we seriously going back to the whole teraflop bullshit? Remember when the PS3 was supposed to be capable of 2TFLOPS of peak performance compared to the 360's 1TFLOP?
The numbers put out by Sony and Microsoft were wildly exaggerated last time around, and if they're following the numbers put out by AMD and Nvidia they're going to be inflated this time around as well, just slightly less.
Not only that but the 4K TVs demoed at CES from LG and other manufacturers only supported HDMI 1.4 so that means you can't play games because HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at a refresh rate of 24Hz. This 4K display they used in the video utilizes DisplayPort which is currently the only video input standard that supports 4K at 60Hz.
@Consoldtobots
That would be a waste of hardware, if you're already using an APU there would be no purpose in some updated version of the Cell, Sony would be better off throwing in a dedicated GPU instead.
Because the stupid thing needed two AAA batteries?
That's not what they mean by mobile GPU, they're specifically referring to laptop-class GPUs, some of which are extremely powerful and capable of playing any game out. The Geforce GTX 680MX is a mobile GPU that is almost as fast as a desktop Geforce GTX 670 and has the same shader/rop/tmu count of the GTX 680.
@ Neonridr
How much better is Trine 2 really on the Wii U anyway? All 3 console versions run at 1280x720 with FXAA. I own Trine 2 on the PC and it looked great at 1920x1080 on the max settings but I can't imagine any 720p console version looking that much better(if any) than another side-scrolling 3D game like Little Big Planet 2.
Yeah, releasing the same month as a Rockstar game was a huge mistake. I own both the 360 and PC version of Alan Wake(as well as American Nightmare on both platforms) and the PS3 and 360 versions of Red Dead and given the choice of only one, the decision would be pretty easy as Red Dead simply offers so much more content and most would agree that its mechanics are more refined.
Still really hope for a proper Alan Wake sequel though. Sure the original was not without flaws but ...
All 3 of the Xbox 360's CPU cores run at 3.2GHz, no one adds up core or hardware threads to determine clock speed because that wouldn't make any sense.
GTA V on the 360 will probably be one of the best looking games out on consoles, did you ever play Red Dead Redemption on the 360?
Rockstar really doesn't get much credit for how good Red Dead Redemption looks on the 360. I've never seen a console game use so much alpha and still be rendered at 720p with anti-aliasing. They even manage to keep vert sync enabled which is pretty impressive, probably the best looking open world game on consoles.
Most HDMI devices use HDCP, what is your point?
