Wow this site is really going downhill.

WHY ON EARTH are posts on random blogspot pages getting approved?

"it's pushed the same way conservatism was pushed on us decades ago"

My thoughts exactly. Too bad that so many people can't see this, or think it's OK as long as more privileges are continually granted to "people like them".

I respect Ubisoft for sticking to their guns on the issue and not letting a few loud people shouting and screaming change things for all of us.

I didn't buy Dead Island because of the characters, all of which were poor. Meanwhile, my friends (all male) and I used to pull straws to see who had to play Rochelle.

If she wants more female characters, why not start a fund to support studios which put them in games? At the end of the day, if she's really go...

Haha of course she's angry.

Female voice actor calling for more female characters...no doubt voiced by females....

She wants to see more job opportunities for her to lend her voice to, so it's nothing more than a selfish desire.

As players of course, this means we should just ignore it. An opinion without sound justification is not an argument, but an arbitrary whim.

I think it's justified. They're clearly trying to create a unique universe which will be memorable for standing on its own feet.
Also, the stretch goals now are really just a formality to let people continue to fund the game in a moderately exciting way. $50,000,000 is symbolic more than anything else.

And they *could* just lose my custom at the same time.

I don't mind playing as women when it is a natural part of the story, though I have a weak preference for playing men (as I'm sure most women do for playing as a woman).

I will simply boycott any game I feel has fallen victim to the scourge of feminism, and is forcing female characters for ideological reasons.

Seems like this guy takes sci-fi movies too seriously.

But these factors are linked and we don't need to have a proactive approach to anything.

Gamers go on to become game developers; they are the most likely to pour their free time into learning and working on games and so will be first in line to take jobs.

Let's say 20% of FPS gamers are women and 80% are men. I imagine their genitalia is not going to affect their desire to work in the industry, so roughly 20% of those who seek to become artists or co...

That's not what the article is saying. It says that (all) "Game publishers and developers need more diversity".
I'm not saying we have too much or too little, and I don't see what's wrong with a small team trying out a high level of diversity to test its benefits (in fact this would be a useful case study).

My problem is just the prejudicial implication that other studios need to arbitrarily pursue diversity without any strong evidence that i...

Why does this matter?

There are inherent benefits to diversity (different backgrounds = different worldviews = more unique product) but also inherent benefits to homogeneity (more relatability = better understanding = more cohesion as a team).

As a result, the point is moot, and there isn't really any reason to call for more or less diversity in a team.

The best way to hire is simply to pick the people who are the best at what they do, an...

And so this author is complaining about people complaining.

Hypocrite.

4373d ago 10 agree5 disagreeView comment

No problem with that as long as the base game is full of content and the DLC packs are large (costume or weapon packs are irritating as these could easily be bolted on to larger DLC).

Lol I expect there's going to be a mysterious virus going around workplaces in October.

4374d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

First of all, the characters aren't that physically perfect.

Secondly, what's wrong with a game full of beautiful people? Having men and women who are nice to look at makes the game more enjoyable and less uncomfortable, and it's fantasy anyway, so this sort of thing is expected.

I dislike that Dorian hates his own people (it would be cool to have someone who actually stands up somewhat for the Tevinter Imperium, as that would add an interesting moral dynamic to the party, so missed potential here).

Cole seems to be a weird, "misunderstood" emo stereotype.

Cassandra is too devout a templar (and I always play a pro-apostate, anti-establishment character).

Vivienne is far too pro-circle, which places her not f...

I may be in the minority, but I already hate pretty much every companion except Varric, Blackwall and Iron Bull.
A shame as the game mechanics seem to be a huge improvement.

Lol I love comments like this. They try to reveal ignorance yet in reality they contain it.

Nobody is "offended" by this. They're just a little peeved that it's being rammed down their throats in such an unsophisticated manner. The most frequent argument I've heard for exclusive LGBT romances is "good, that'll teach the homophobes they can't always get what they want"; I mean this is the kind of thing I used to come out with when I was ...

There are always vocal minorities on every side, which is why Bioware should be completely ignoring them and look solely at statistical data to judge what types of characters most people play, and thus which types to put most of their attention into.

Because good statistical data (when analysed by a good statistician whose agenda is merely truth and not of a political nature) is morally neutral.

4379d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Lol the profit question makes no sense, as "straight white guys" make up the vast majority of the market, so by catering to niche groups, Bioware are actually sacrificing profit for this.

I feel Bioware are spending a lot of time creating romantic subplots which only a small minority of players will use and completely botching the heterosexual male inquisitor options, as all I can see so far on that front is Cassandra and Vivienne, which is simply not enough for 75%...

That's *if* it is released, given the studio making it aren't working at the moment due to the well-publicised pay dispute within Crytek.
