I think the point here is that resolution and frame rate doesn't speak of the quality behind each pixel!
Who knows, the Xbox 360 and PS3 might have more native 1080p games than next generation.
@Heavy:
You wouldn't know, but a small example is for instances patches. On Xbox 360, you start a game, the game downloads the patch while the game is doing it's usual slew of ads for the developer and technology. Before that is done, the download ends, the systems signs you out and then in, and bam you are playing.
No lenghty install, no installation of patch and no restart of the game.
It is just a hot patch, i.e. loaded on the spot...
You can start designing a game to be offline, then offload for more awesomeness when the cloud is available.
However, games like Titanfalls wouldn't work offline and I think we are increasingly moving towards online games even if it is similar to a traditional single player experience.
A living breathing world if you may that is altered by other games, yet stays single player. This would open up to a game that can be replayed with different experiences th...
It really makes you wonder why monday has so many bubbles, yet he trolls in Xbox One news.
@Volkama:
Exactly! and if cloud is not available, revert to the default standard of 24 opponents.
That is a freakin awesome idea.
Playing against a fightatar in Street Fighter would be cool. AI is the one area in games that literally evolved like a snail i.e. non-existent.
Kinect One is cutting edge technology, so people still don't know what scenarios is best for it.
Take for instance the controller pad and remember what it started as, a d-pad with essentially two buttons (let's start around NES era).
How long did it take before we even got a analog stick, and how long did it take to get to dual, then to really standard mechanic.
That is for a simple analog stick. It takes a long time to figure this o...
I think the parts and assembly aren't that expensive, but the investment into research making it possible is where the major cost is.
Think about how many disciplines this touches in computer research such as computer vision, speech recognition and noise cancellation, and it is f'in amazing!
Not many companies has the years of research and the people in different disciplines to do this. MS from the days of yore when Bill Gates was at the helm recogniz...
Well, anything the competition says right now is likely to diminish their product. Why?
Because the hype is so big for the PS4, based on rumors that it is almost impossible to meet that. Sony's best bet, keep quiet.
For MS it is the complete opposite. Whatever they say, will be turned against them. So they open up, in hopes that some listens.
That said, the speech recognition on the original Kinect was and is d@mn good. I remember seeing ...
@Outside_ofthe_Box:
"If the goal is to have games at all times on consoles regardless of 1st or 3rd party then why can't the logic of letting the 3rd party shine late in the life cycle apply to the beginning as well?"
Yes, but history tells you that 3rd party don't want to support new platforms until they mature which means better tools and bigger market to sell your games. Unless you are a huge developer with huge publisher backing you, you...
I know, it is kindo of ridiculous that all we hear are 1080p and 60fps reports from indie developers with low system requirements.
Then again, if it looks good and feels good, why do I care what resolution or frame rate it is.
Pixel quality is and enjoyable experience is what I want from my games. Otherwise, I get a PC where 4K resolution at 60fps is possible. It makes 1080p look like three decade old technology.
My name was "ladies loves you".
So naturally, every time the teacher called "ladies love you", I would stand up!
@Mystogan:
"B-b-but the cloud is a stupid gimmick!"
The gimmick just turned into a monster feature!
Amazon Web Services is arguably one of the largest, if not "the" largest cloud provider in the world. It is no small feat to beat Amazon performance and muscle, but it is not a surprise considering MS ranks in the top and has more than 1 million servers in their Azure datacenters:
“I[Steve Balmer, MS CEO] cl...
I think more appropriately you want games at all times, and third party generally do not come through during launch. Just look at past history.
That is why first party needs to step up at launch, but then lay back so third party can shine later in the cycle.
Despite few exclusives late in the Xbox 360 cycle, there are plenty of games to play.
Historically then, the Xbox 360 has a consistently strong set of games at all times to keep gamers bu...
If Sony's history is going to go by, then you will have a few years of no games.
Take a look at the PS Vita, and take a look at the PS3 history.
I personally love the simplicity and the flat look of Metro, with a hint of color. Very sexy, very modern!
Let's go back to basics and make it easy to use our devices. Tired of seeing a screen full of cryptic icons. Ironically Android and iPhone feels like Windows 3.1.
@wax:
Lol, Gabe has his own agenda feeling threatened by the Windows 8 app store.
I love Valve, but they are doing some really confusing stuff that I don't think is going to pan out. Think MS is confusing their message with Xbox One, imagine Valve!
"Well the negativity isn't unwarranted. 8 is waning behind 7 thanks to their pointless efforts to destroy the system we came to know."
I love Windows 8 personally...
@OrangePowerz:
The first Kinect had fantastic voice control and accuracy was excellent.
That said, instant switchin and voice commands makes ease of use the de-facto standard on Xbox One. Nobody else can touch that right out of the box!
Still really want to look for that controller, flick around with your thumb, then the controller is available and your apps/games are pinned for even faster access.
Kinect One is freakin awes...
I find it ironic that nobody addresses the big elephant in the room, namely if you want the best graphics available, it is on PC!
There is no arguing there, it is a fact.
Clearly you bought your console for games, ease of access and value. In that regard, is it valuable to you to start this trend of having a check mark that says 1080p at 60fps on every game?
It is doable on Xbox 360 and PS3!
Why do you not do it? Because qual...
KillZone SF has dedicated proxy server. Everything else is P2P.
So no, it doesn't have dedicated server to process game logic or any of the benefits that come with it.
All KZ is have a server forward some of your traffic to another PS4. That is not a dedicated server, it is a dedicated proxy server!
Sorry you were fooled by Sony.
Which tells you what?
That resolution and frame rate is only a small part of the equation. So why are we so hung up on the holy grail of 1080p and 60fps?
