I don't understand why people clamor for "new ip"?
For me, it doesn't need to be a new ip for me to enjoy. In fact, many of the games I want to play are really really old IPs often times with a reboot.
It has never been about IPs, but about games I enjoy playing!
@sashimi:
US Government isn't a company!
That said, I have no clue what you are trying to say. Sony did have a monopoly at one point with the Playstation 1 and 2!
They lost that thanks to first MS, then Nintendo did them in.
@Xperia_ion:
"I believe all hard work pays off in the end, do you think the PlayStation brand has been lazy in providing games to its fanbase ?"
I disagree...
I'm surprised with new hardware, like PS Vita Sony shipped fewer handhelds combined by almost 30% than yoy quarter. Heck the entire division under-performed. MS had similar result, but they got years of earnings to prop them up (and also other very profitable divisions).
Sony is also hiding the PS3 sales number by combining it with PS2. I would have love to see the numbers, as MS too had major decrease in Xbox 360 sales.
It's time for new hardware! I...
eh?
NO! Sony (like any company) can go bankrupt eventually and nobody wants to touch them with a ten foot pole.
Have you seen Nokia lately?
@Ryo-Hazuki:
Don't you see a problem with that?
A single CoD release that year beat out two major and I mean *major* exclusives combined?
The CoD franchise alone likely outsells all other PS3 exclusives combined.
So yes, PS3 gamers aren't really that different from Xbox 360 gamers contrary to belief here.
That was my initial thought that the app store is a competitor to Valve, but now Blizzard and even Mojang says otherwise. Yet nobody clearly says why?
It sounds like they fear their lack of freedom, but to me nothing in Windows 8 stops them from running whatever software they are doing now and likely whatever they are planning.
So I would also like a clear answer to the fear!
There have been a number of people voicing concern, but I'm frankly confused about what?
Nobody really says clearly what is so bad, just "it's bad"!
@Fishy Fingers:
Windows 8 is a lot faster in all the tasks I do, so why not use it for gaming as well?
It seems way more optimized for lower end hardware than Windows 7.
@badz149:
I suppose everyone, but Sony or their second party studios are lazy!
I'm not crazy, it's the world! /s
@shutUpAndTakeMyMoney:
So they said that one year ago, and now a year later, they still barely got support for Android!
Can I say vaporware?
It is not getting the push it needs, and I frankly don't see why anyone would care about PS Suite?
I mean, to me the only selling point would be cross-platform, but that is obviously not available. Instead you are limited to hardware that is approved by Sony for PS Suite and PS Vita....
I buy 100% of my games new, and have been doing it for basically a decade. That said, I see no issue with used.
Used game traded in is often spent on other games and sometimes brand new ones. Furthermore, I believe in the freedom to sell something I acquired legally!
I agree! The Sony eco-system is far worse than competing services.
I own a Kindle Fire, and the hardware and even the OS (based on Android) suck big time, but the content makes it all worth it.
No content equals no buy. Then again, on this tablet you are likely able to add GooglePlay and Amazon (to some extent). Still, if I had to get a tablet now, I would get Kindle Fire or Nexust 7. If I can wait, I would get MS Surface!
I think the point of OnLive is pointless. The experience is terrible even with great internet connect (read fiber optics all the way to the wall inside house) and the compression screws up fast moving scenes.
Even movement feels laggy.
Well there are instances where solid games aren't recognized. A great example is Rare with Kinect Sports. It was lambasted by the reviewers and many gamers yet it sold over 3 million copies.
I personally loved Kinect Sports and it was a great game!
@Hoje0308:
Not everybody has the interest nor business case to invest heavy resources into showcasing or even justifying Sony hardware especially when you have no real investment into the console.
That is unlike Sony first party studios whom would be embarrassed if they showed a poorly looking game on supposed expensive and "superior" hardware wouldn't it. If I were Sony, I would put lots and lots of resources too, because that is the selling po...
@TUGA:
"1- More than 50% failure rate on launch 360"
MS made a serious mistake with RROD. Part of the reason was compliance with EU laws with new iron free solder, but that doesn't relieve MS of reponsibility and they got what they deserve both in the media and the associated cost. In my book, MS offered 3-year warranty, paid back people that paid for repairs previously and handled it relatively speediently and paid for shipping both ways.
I think you should read the article again:
"There’s only one CPU. It seems like it might be able to do everything, but it can’t. The SPUs seem like they should be really awesome, but not for anything you or anyone else is doing."
Yeah, it's really fast just not the type of workload you would be doing in most tasks!
What all of you focusing on "hardware specs" and "how powerful the hardware is", is missing is that it isn't the hardware unless the disparity is huge.
It's about intelligent architecture design, and the software tools that enables awesomeness!
Take the Xbox 360 for instance, it has a lower datarate bandwidth for memory, but because of MS foresight about constrained memory they added unified memory. PS3 has far higher bandwidth, bu...
@NathanExplosion:
2+2 is not equal to 7 a hundred percent of the time!!! XD
What Pachter really should say is, 2 + 2 + x = 7, where x is my opinion based on information from very secretive services!
and if I told you, you would be as rich as I am suckers so stop listening to me and get a real job!!! XD
I wouldn't either. Time and time again, if MS really wants it they get it. They will outspend everyone, and put humongous resources on it. Only huge companies like Google and Apple can stand against them.
Just pray MS isn't hungry and stays that way.
@Saryk:
Nobody would have believed it during the first Xbox console. It was the laughing stock and look at it now!
Dan Greenwalt and Peter Moore?
Really?
I think they both are great personalities.
If you want to talk about douchebaggery, you should look up Ken Kutaragi's quotes. Here are a few of his choice quotes for your enjoyment, but Google Ken Kutaragi quotes for more douchebaggery!
Ken hints that PS3 might be a tad pricey: "We want consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one.' We want people ...
