I would agree, except that lists like this are almost unanimously hated, so it would be hard for any of them to qualify as overrated.
But, yeah, I'm tired of these end of the year best/overrated/underrated/wors t lists too. I'd like to see an article that looked at the year from a different, more creative perspective.
I just checked out Wikipedia to see what was new in the PS3 version of No More Heroes, and it lets you replay boss battles! Now I am jealous. No More Heroes is on of many games that desperately needed a boss rush mode. (Same for Sin & Punishment 2 and the Metroid Prime games.) I'm glad to see it is getting only, but a little depressed that I already own the game on Wii and have no PS3.
The other enhancements--aside from HD, of course-- seem pretty minor though.
If the Wii 2 were going to be the Wii HD that Patcher keeps predicting, then I would say that he has a point. Just slapping HD on the system and upping the specs is not likely to cause a huge jump in sales.
But that is NOT what the Wii 2 will be. Nintendo has said as much over and over and over again. The Wii 2 will be an entirely different system with an entirely different approach. It won't be waggle in high def, or, at least, it won't just be that.
...
This is my guess too.
I think Nintendo understands that a $300 price tag will damage its ability to be competitive in North America. Whereas the equivalent of $300 makes sense in the more handheld-centric Japanese market.
Nintendo has always been smart about pricing, and I'd be very surprised if they price themselves out of the market now.
Edit: Also, keep in mind that withholding the NA price for so long after the Japanese price was ann...
Not to mention no Super Mario Galaxy 2, despite the fact that it's the year's best reviewed game.
And the Wii list is just lazy. Other M is included, even though it was generally considered a disappointment, but no Sin and Punishment or Goldeneye or Epic Mickey or No More Heroes 2 or anything that would have added diversity to the list.
It's clear who Spike's audience is, and they're not even trying to be relevant to anyone who is outside ...
It would have to outpace the Wii by more than 20,000 units a month, unless you are talking about a long, long lifetime.
While I'm very excited about DKCR and expect great things from Retro, I have to agree. Game Informer is just not a trustworthy source for reviews, particularly of Wii games.
Yes, please.
I don't know if 2011 is abysmal so much as empty. Nintendo has announced Zelda and Mario Sports Mix and... nothing else.
I would love to see them fill that void by localizing Xenoblade, The Last Story and some other first party titles that haven't been announced for the US yet.
GS, troll or not, I'm not sure that getting on N4G and calling out your critics in the comments section does much to establish the professionalism or legitimacy of your website.
MP, the failure rate for consoles is difficult to determine, because manufacturers don't exactly want the information to be public.
I was basing my claim on studies, like this one:
http://www.gamespot.com/new...
The PS3's failure rate is higher than the Wii's, but lower than the 360's, which makes sense, considering the hardware involved.
I&...
Except that the PS2 sold those 150 million units over a much longer period of time than it took the Wii to sell ~75 million, making it much more likely that a lot of those sales were to people who had once owned a PS2 that they sold/broke/lost/etc. who bought the system a second (or third) time. The Wii has a failure rate of around 1% or 2%, meaning that very few gamers have been forced to purchase replacements.
The PS2 also has sold a lot of consoles at a lower price than th...
Ew. No, my god, no.
So, let me understand this: The conventions of certain iconic Japanese series are getting stale and the answer is to give them over to Western Developers so they can substitute even staler conventions from cookie cutter Western game series?
At least the Japanese titles on this list do not release yearly additions to their tired series with only nominal gameplay enhancements and bonus maps.
Even their one reasonable s...
Game Informer still hasn't figured out how to use a Wii remote:
"Playing with the Wii remote and nunchuk feels tighter than The Conduit’s touchy controls, but you’ll want to go the dual-analog stick route with the Classic Controller Pro."
Do they even realize that you can customize the aiming settings?
I swear, every Game Informer Wii reviews mentions control problems that can be found in no other review.
I thought the screenshot was from a NES virtual console game. Really. That's not a joke. I saw it and I thought, "Finally, more 8-bit games coming to the VC!"
Then I was disappointed.
How does GameSpot manage to find "control issues" in every Wii game they play? No other reviews have mentioned these "control issues."
I think developers are still missing an essential point about Wii gamers. Most Wii gamers bought their system either a) to play locally with friends or family or b) to relive the games and series that defined their childhoods. With that in mind, selling a new IP with a short campaign and no local multiplayer (or in this case, no multiplayer period) is suicide on the system. We've seen this again and again, but devs would rather hide behind vague labels like "hardcore" and "...
More speculation. The article doesn't even provide a source for these rumors.
I'm split on the removal of the hub world.
I loved the castle in Mario 64, but I thought the space station in Galaxy was mostly tedious and uninspired. It was the only part of the game that seemed lacking to me.
I would take an old school world map over Galaxy's hub, but the ideal would be a hub that really recaptures the sense of exploration of Mario 64's castle, particularly in terms of hidden areas and easter eggs.
All of the above. XBLA, PSN and Wiiware.
I have a nine year old computer, a Wii and a netbook.
I'm jealous of all of you!
