I'm an uneducated casual. I bought a series S for $200 last fall. Woe is me.
I think it's probable that Xbox will miss out on some games due to the series s. It's unfortunate that they made it as weak as they did. But in the meantime, I'll enjoy it for all its worth until the rug is pulled. When last gen is still getting games like Hogwarts Legacy and Elden Ring and Diablo 4 and Street Fighter 6, the series S isn't the console we should point to for holding back the generation.
Personally, I don't need the best looking versions of games. Long as it looks great and plays great, I really don't care if it looks better or worse than some other console. Series S can do most games at 60fps with reduced resolution / textures and that's okay for the people that are okay with it.
While grouping up in the traditional sense is a pain. I do enjoy the random world events that take place where I'll often end up fighting with strangers (who are usually many levels higher than me) and it doesn't make it a cake walk and we both end up having a good experience, getting our own loot, and moving on with our own adventures. For me, this game is several times better than Diablo 3, and may even end up topping my nostalgia with Diablo 2. Having a blast with it.
Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6, and Zelda prove that hardware isn't really that big of a deal. Series S should be more capable but there is plenty they can do with what they have.
I think this is much better. It means people can play with their friends regardless of what level they are and still get a good challenge.
The battery is technically the same but because SteamOS is more efficient than Windows, the battery life on the Steam Deck will outlast the Asus even if both are configured to run at 720p/60fps.
^ Game looks great to me. But I'm also not sitting 12 inches from my TV like the 2x zoomed in pictures they used as evidence of reduced texture quality. And Digital foundry stated that while the texture quality is worse, everything else is better. Frame rate, physics, lighting, input latency.
Can't download any game pass games on Steam deck.
Steam deck is a better user experience. Asus is clunky and has typical windows problems. Also, no TouchPad which makes desktop mode without a keyboard/mouse extra cumbersome. Steam deck also apparently has better battery life.
I was going to, but I'm not ready to deal with Windows problems. Might just wait for more proton support and the eventual steam deck pro.
I've been playing SF6 on series S with no issues. And considering the game is also on the Ps4, not sure why we're complaining about the S. Especially since the S holds a steady 60fps throughout.
Yes, Redfall and Crackdown 3 were bad games, but I'm sure they weren't planned to be bad games from the beginning lol
