Yes and no.

Programming for consoles and even PC's is actually done under tools like Unreal 4, Unity, App Game Kit, Corona Sdk, Marmalade and Project Anarchy just to name a few. Using the tools I just mention and more you can actually do most of the work.

Obviously, if you want to get that little (sometimes significant) extra performance you may have to program to the metal that is why you would use tools like Vulkan and on Microsoft OS's DirectX ...

Vulkan is the successor to OpenGL and will be supported on the PS4. Since Vulkan has an open specification it can also run under Microsoft Windows and Linux which also includes Steam.

Since DirectX is proprietary to Microsoft you will not see DirectX being used on anything other than Microsoft Windows and that includes the XB1.

I have had every Nintendo console from the NES through to the Gamecube. When the Wii was introduced I stopped purchasing Nintendo and the WiiU did not entice me back. I have no interest in the Marios's but I do like Zelda and Metroid.

A Solid State Disk has a read performance of approx 500MB/sec with the write being 20% less (this does depend on brand) and can vary in size from 60GB at the low end to 15TB at the high end. A reasonable performing cartridge (assuming 16GB to 64GB) normally have a read performance of approximately 100MB/sec (write is approx 20% slower) and you can pay considerably more for better performance such as a SanDisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive With Speed Up To 190MB/sec ($19.45 USD for 16GB and...

I don't know about that since allot of people were not that happy with the battery life for the dual shock 4 being around 7 to 8 hours. You can make it last longer by replacing the battery with a PS3 one or get a third party one but you do void your warranty.

At least you will get invited back to a rooftop party. 😉

Not really, my desktop PC has a Skylake core i7 CPU and when it is in idle mode it runs at a clock frequency of 800MHz. If I start running anything it's clock frequency will increase to a maximum of 3.7Ghz depending what I am running, although I can get it to turbo to 4.0GHz. The unlocked (ie. "K" model) version of this processor can go much higher but you better have some pretty good cooling otherwise it will trip its over temperature protection system really quickly.

DQ8 was rated PG in Australia while Bloodborne was rated MA and The Witcher 3 was R18 so even if DQ11 is rated R18 pretty much any kid can pick it up (usually by getting a parent to purchase it).

Yes, there is no problem with killing and maiming in a video game but the merest hint of sex and the SJW's throw up their hands in horror and scream out "Think of the Children". 😉

By "real time combat" I think you mean "action" such as what you get in games like Bloodborne, Neir, Nioh, Skyrim, The Souls Series etc. If that is what you mean then no it does not.

Using DQ8 as an example since the combat system does have some similarities it will be turn based but you can only control one party member at a time and if you wish you can micromanage all other party members although this can get tedious really fast (usually fine for the ...

I first saw this in DQ8 on the PS2.

Basically, Jesica the female wizard can accentuate her boobs (ie. Puff Puff) during battle (you have to increase her sex appeal attribute) which can do damage to male enemies. Also, some of the female enemies can also do this to your party as well.

An additional feature of increasing Jesica's sex appeal is that some enemies will not attack but admire her thereby losing a turn which can give you the edge against tou...

RPG's fall into three main categories, the first is turn based the second is active turn based and the third is action. Yes, there is a mix but the main categories are what I have just stated.

I am aware that may people like to lump turn based into Japanese RPG's and action into Western RPG's. The problem is I can easily point to plenty of WRPG's and JRPG's that fit all categories. Please don't point to The Witcher 3 as a WRPG since Poland is actuall...

I don't know if you noticed but they are underwater hence the slower floaty animation.

It does look turn based but if it's anything like DQ8 you can customize how your party reacts without manually telling them what to do.

Well, you could get a game like Quantum Break for the XB1 which starts and 44G and can go up to 112GB if you download all the video instead of streaming. http://gearburn.com/2016/03... If you want the PC version the requirements are 68 GB free disk space. https://www.microsoft.com/e......

How about a 15TB SSD which would fit quite easily in the PS4 and PS4pro? The only problem I think the $10,000 USD price tag may be a bit high for most people. 😉

No, the PS3 does not support an external drive for gaming purposes.

3468d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well, there are an addition four screws holding the drive to the caddy but to release the caddy you need only unscrew one screw. The PS3 hard drive is exactly the same.

It is pretty difficult to misalign the SATA and power connector slots unless you are one of those people who believes that a hammer is the best tool for the job. 😉

You can always use the drive for something else such as backing up critical data for you...

If "XiKurapikaKurta" did a day one swap then less than 10 minutes would be correct. If he had been playing for a few months then the backup and subsequent recovery would take considerably longer. Usually, hours depending on the amount of non-critical data (game installs) you have.

A physical disk changeover would most likely take two to three minutes although it may take a few minutes longer if you are not that confident. Reformatting and recovery of your critical...

The most important part of any backup is your critical data and as "isarai" quite rightly said this type of backup is fairly quick since if you have a PS3, PS4, XBox360 or XB1 you can backup to the cloud (ie, PSN or XBox Live) or to a USB stick since those backups are relatively small and are overall usually less than a one or two gigabytes.

If you are backing up your game installs which are not critical data although some do think it is, you do need a backup dev...

SATA 2 speeds are 300MB/sec for all devices on the bus.

An SSD has approximately 500 MB/sec read (write is usually 10%~20% slower) performance you are never going to get the best performance out of that device on a SATA2 bus although you are definitely going to get 2 to 3 times the performance of a conventual hard disk drive.

What makes things a bit more difficult is the design of the game. Some games when read from an SSD can have an exceptional improve...

@Letthewookiewin

I do agree with you although IMHO I think having an internal swappable drive is more important than an external drive. Of course, I would not say no if Sony implemented this feature.

The PS4 does allow you to backup and restore your saves to an external device be it PS+ or USB (the PS3 allows this as well). You can also backup your internal storage as well to an equal or larger capacity device but you can't backup your individual inst...
