Awesome, Brett.
Yes! 100% this. The conversations going into this gen are bonkers. People acting like an all digital console is an amazing innovation that adds “options”. In reality, it only removes options...
but hey... at least you’ll save 50 bucks to enter a monogamous purchasing relationship.
Cheaper initially, but depending on how many games you normally purchase, the option to pick something up used, trade, or price shop different stores that initial savings could easily be eaten up in the deals you miss out on.
Sure digital has sales, but outside of that a lot of games seem to stick at the $60 tag long after physical copies start to see price drops.
Reduced market, perhaps, but supply and demand would scale the same.
I dislike the idea of Sony doing just as much as I did when MS offered it. Seems a lot of other Sony fans are not on board with it as well.
“Everyone” lol nice try...
An option to have less options... yay!
I wish more companies would do this. Like a coffee maker that would only work with chipped coffee pods you bought directly from them via subscription. Think of how convenient it would be to not to have to worry about shopping around for sales or cheaper brands... /s
This is what the all digital push is. Single channel monopoly on where your games come from and locked to a single user/console.

I get that, and don’t really see an issue with it being an option to go all digital. My main concern is that by creating skus that are limited to digital only it’s a signal from the companies that this is the direction they want to start moving toward.
It benefits them much more than us. They get a bigger cut of the sale, and eliminate the second hand market. All consoles can be all digital.
The only benefit of the discless console t...
Fair enough, I can appreciate Your take on that.
Maybe those of us who prefer a disc on the shelf are a dying breed. Hopefully both options continue to exist for next couple gens at least.
Please tell me what is so great about digital only? I honestly would like to understand why some people think limiting a system to save a couple buck on the front end is such a great thing...
I think the argument that more options is better is absolutely insane when you’re talking about an option to have less options.
Sure, save $50 on the machine because it doesn’t have an optical drive, but you lock yourself into a download only ecosystem. I promise you, that choice adds up to a loss of way more than what you saved initially over the life of the console. No used game purchases, no borrowing or trades with a friend. No rentals.
= less choic...
Noooooo! Why Sony? Screw all digital
HZD... was sooo hoping to see the “Holiday 2020” but alas 😭
Odd f’n World!?
No way!
With GAMEPLAY even!
Imagine that...
@uRa
So, you’re really saying PS5 isn’t going to have any improvement in res & fps over the ps4Pro?
Doubtful.
Kind of an ignorant comment.
Graphics scale (resolution, effects, etc), so GPUs are not the thing “holding back”. CPU and I/O output however, yes, do prevent certain things from even being possible that could otherwise be achieved on new hardware.
But nice try
So is this like a group thing, or are we taking turns?

Amen Brother. Multi-console master race!
Although I have really high hopes for games to use the new controller features of PS5 in a fun and interesting way, along with at least one or two must have exclusives at launch. That’s going to be my initial purchase, but we’ll see what the field looks like when the date gets closer.
Cheers!
Right on!
