Oh yeah, and I've seen that episode of the new Fullmetal Alchemist. Elric Brothers for the win! :D

I'm interested in those special action segments he's planning on including in Versus 13. Supposedly, they're supposed to play like sequences from Advent Children. Imagining that is like...wow, impossible.

On another note, probably the weirdest experience I had in FFX2 was when the three girls were bathing and splashing around in bikinis. Made me check the box once more for the T rating. lol. :P

It's off-putting simply because when trying to add an action aspect they fall back on, of all things, the third person mechanics of Dirge of Cerberus, by far the worst FFVII spin-off and FF title ever. Yes, they've worked on Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children (great graphics and fancy sequences ahoy) but they've also fouled up FFX, X-2 and Dirge.

You mean Cloud using his most powerful move at the end and not the beginning, then mysteriously surviving a big-ass explosion before curing a bunch of kids of god-knows-what-the-frak with weird water?

Entertaining yes, but Crisis Core completely threw me off. The main story was just about okay with all it's references (along with the heart-breaking final battle; curse you Shinra! Why couldn't you let Zack and Aeris meet just one last time?!) but the combat and missions just degenerated into "Find and Beat the Snot Out of X". And I do prefer the good old days when the characters weren't flying around like Superman but were humans susceptible to failure.

On the surface, this argument - violent games don't encourage people to murder while rape games encourage guys to rape - doesn't apply equally to both cases.

There are several more factors to consider with murder - family, society, the law are all virtual and have no effect in the gaming world. But with rape, it all affects our morales and ethics. The girl is on the screen, yes. The tears aren't real, she's not real, but we are and we're doing some thing despicable, right? I don'...

My friend works at Split-Screen.

^_^;;

Anyway, we love anime, no issues there. Just noting the hypocrisy of some people to hate on games for any which reason (violence, rape) when other media contain far worse.

Different strokes, different people though. No harm done. :)

True. Good point.

I'm not so sure if these girls want to be raped in Rapelay (i haven't played the game, so I wouldn't know) but the devs have definitely created that same ambiance found in most hentai doujins and anime. The girl may say she's not enjoying it, she may be crying but all the same, she looks to be enjoying. Which is far different from any representation of rape in Europe or America (like The Accused, for example).

I do agree their way of thinking is ver...

Basilisk is a walk in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory compared to Shigurui. You could try Kurozuka if you're looking for sword fighting an offbeat treatment. I only checked out two episodes but it's still stuck in my head. And it looks pretty damn good, almost as much as Shigurui. :)

That's funny. I didn't see many tiny little Replica children crying to a Replica mommy when I murdered their fathers/brothers/cousins/uncle s in F.E.A.R. the other day. Ditto for the countless demons slain in Devil May Cry.

Yeah, Shigurui is pretty intense even without all the gore from the fights. One example: A man rips off a female's body part during intercourse and eats it. I'll let you guess which part but you won't like the answer. As such, it is beautifully animated (according to Ravi, the author of this article) but even for one with a strong stomach, some of the gore does appear very pointless.

Must be the first requirement for getting a job at Illusion Soft then.

Out of curiousity, which is more preferable: Watching fantasy rape or actually playing it?

It's just really amazing how some thing small will get beaten up so long as it has the "video game" moniker next to it while other violent shows and movies are ignored.

Volition announced Saint's Row 3 several months before the second was to arrive. And that wasn't a joke, they were actually serious. So it's not impossible, even though our case for Ninja Blade 2 is really a joke. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I did see a post about FFVII coming to PSN but it hurt a lot of gamers' feelings. This is because most people have been conditioned to think a PS3 remake is the only way to enjoy FFVII and when they get the idea that a PSN FFVII can be done - and that idea turns out to be one big lie/joke, it becomes much harder to laugh it off. Generally, I'd imagine most Sony fanboys can make the distinction between what's funny and what becomes insulting (as they did on reading ...

From what Ravi (my colleague from Split-Screen) told me, he's known about the whole "Ninja Blade played with Guitar Hero controller" thing for a few days. A comic was supposed to be created about it as well, but then April Fool's came up and then we got the announcement of MS doing some thing on the 8th. From there, creativity, just sky-rocketed.

"Me: Microsoft says it's gonna make an announcement that'll 'revitalise' the game industry here... 8th April.

'“You see,” said Tomonobu Itagaki, in that laid-back manner of the unemployed, “From Software is sitting on a gold mine here. By combining the tactics of Activision’s Guitar Hero and my very own Ninja Gaiden series, they’ve successfully created a franchise that intimately what is essentially hardcore Simon Says.” On questioning Itagaki about how he knows all this (and after informing him that he’s not getting the royalties from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2), he began weeping. Audibly at first, then v...

Closely mirrors their support for their in-house franchises. They'll provide finances, time, input and what-not but more importantly, they support the company through thick and thin, not afraid if the project will fail or not. This was done for LBP and it wasn't even a full-blown concept at that point. That's how much they believe in a game's quality. Same can be said for when they supported Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter in the PS2 generation - despite none of the very fi...

But they're revealing it at this year's E3. So, yeah, it kind of is relevant now. And I don't think they're gonna sit around like Square-Enix and parade this game for three shows in a row.

@belal

Edit: True. But their game was declared "essentially finished" in January 2008. I'm pretty sure the localization was the only thing left. Square-Enix though, I don't know whether they've finished the game and are beginning localization or just shifting team members...
