1080p can be displayed via componant cable for hd dvd and games. The restrictions won't happen until 2012. By that time there will be new consoles. Enabling 1080p for the 360 puts it exactly on the same playing field as SONY.
It will be outputting 1080p Period.

Yeah I heard it was coming to the ps3 too. But it hasn't been announced yet. All I know is the video's for it are 360 demo's being played. And it looks spectacular. You know its a 360 demo because the x, y, and a buttons on the hud in the gameplay video. All I can say is wow...I didn't know games can look that good. And the world is living and interactive.

Excellent point. I would like to add to that. The 360 dominated E3 2006, and the GDC. And from the looks of it. MS is dominating TGS. Read carefully and note there is no up converting unless the game is 1080i or 720p. But HD dvd movies will be in full 1080p and the 360 can actually "Output" 1080p. Big difference than what you are lying about. Get over it DJ. you are making yourself look like an azz. Its just video games.

You already know the answer to this. Because MS understands that most consumers don't have 1080p. So they are targetting 720p and 1080i for games. But the ATI avivo tech is native 1080p if enabled with software. It will up convert if the game is in 720p or 1080i. But if a dev wanted to make a game in 1080p...they could. But why? I agree. We all have seen the gameplay video's, so who cares about screen shots with no HUD, no gun, No health bar....After playing the 360 for almost a year....its going to take more than screen shots of cut scenes to impress me. And the gameplay video looked "OK". It didn't look as good as the Half life 2, which it obviously is copying. But, with that said...its the only game that has even slightly raised an eyebrow for me.

But HD dvd will be native 1080p and the 360 will have that as a native resolution. So developers can, if they choose, develope games for the 360 in 1080p.
