I think failing to finish a game is totally acceptable. Just because people can't finish a game doesn't mean theres something that needs to be changed about the game at all.
I support an easy mode only to get more people to play/buy the game like my girlfriend. I do NOT support an easy mode because I think gamers inherently deserve to beat every game they buy/rent/borrow. People need to get over their fear of failure. Gonna be interesting to watch how this whole ...
"I wasn't able to beat Demon's Souls. That's my problem, not the game's. I have to get better; the difficulty shouldn't go down to accommodate me." - Hicken
I can get behind implementing an easy mode that doesn't affect normal modes only to get more people to play/buy the game; but what you said is absolutely spot on. This instance with Dark Souls is merely a microcosm of that "fear of failure" and "everyone gets a trophy&qu...
I'm all for "easy mode" to get more people buying/playing Dsouls as long as it doesn't take away from my gaming experience.
I don't think people who play through on "easy mode" should be able to take that character into any greater difficulties. I don't think it should support PvP; but it should still allow for co-op. And I don't think many (if any) trophies or achievements should be available to easy moders.
Well, they'd have to overcome the challenge of navigating the settings to turn on subtitles first. Without a walkthru... idk... that might just be too difficult for some.
Anyway.. glad it's a translation thing. The game is not difficult. The "Too Hard to Try" reputation was perpetuated incorrectly.
Like playing Portal on mute. One might progress through the game but they didn't experience why the game is awesome.
MH in NA, pleez.
Playing through a DSouls game on an "easy mode" seems akin to playing a Portal game on mute. You won't get the same experience or fulfillment.
Imo, as long as the core game remains for those of us who enjoy a challenge, do whatever floats your boat to create "easy modes". However, I think that any rewards gained in "easy mode" should not carry over into whatever mode has the PvP. You want an amazing weapon or armor for PvP? Then challenge yourself.
It is rather ridiculous that such a great game gets labeled "Too Hard to Try". People not playing it out of fear of failure is pretty disappointing. I don't really even find it that difficult. It's simple trial and error. Just like life.
I think their marketing f'd up on many levels with the "Prepare to Die" fiasco. Aside from needlessly irking their fanbase by not giving info about the DLC until it was way way late in the game, I think "Prepare to Die" was the wrong tagline to sell your game to a broader audience.
I still think that playing a Souls game on "easy mode" would be akin to playing Portal on mute. What most find enjoyable about the game would be lost. But I think it's a decent idea to get more people to at least try it..
(sidenote)From's "Prepare to Die" marketing wasn't the best of choices to garner more appeal, lol.
I don't think this article is about a Olympic themed game. I think it's more about creating an event that would be the Video game competition equivalent the Olympics.
I've definitely softened my stance on this since yesterday because of my girlfriend. She said she would totally try Dark Souls if there was a “easy mode”; but as it is, she doesn't find it enticing. If not for its reputation of being "too hard to try", many gamers like her would have tried it.
Many more gamers would have experienced one of the best games (imHo) I've ever had the pleasure of playing. More gamers would be playing on the whole so the...
This is a funny little debate. Reminds me a lot of Kurt Vonnegut's short story "Harrison Bergeron".
When games didn't have difficulty settings you were either meant to beat it or you were not. No big deal. It seems to me some may need to learn how to accept and get over failure. Microcosm of today's "everyone is a winner and gets a trophy" PC BS...
"Oh, no. People might get their feelings hurt. Guess we need gove...
I used to do that with most FPSs I bought. Pretty fun to master something at an extreme difficulty and then run through having created your own "god mode". Usually it helped when I was Achievement whoring to pick up any leftover chachkies I'd missed in the intense "I'm going to die!!!" initial playthrough.
Bale? No, thanks.
How about an unknown actor... plenty of really good actors out there that aren't famous.
True that. Die hard fans.
<3 this game.
Le disappoint...
I can't wait. I've not spoiled anything for myself yet... but the snippets I've caught sound awesome.
Has more to do with longitudes and latitudes than borders.
