Yup, and so far I wouldn't say any console has put out a game that screams next generation....
Switch is under powered to begin with so the games are not all that innovative.
PS5 has showed console power but not innovation
XB Series has really shown nothing yet
I give MS a B+, Sony a A-, and Nintendo an A. None of them get a full A+ yet. In reality this is just another fanboy article trying to discredit XB, just...
To me there is good news and bad news here.
Capcom is doing a pretty solid job with each of their new games. And I like their games a lot. Monster Hunter RE7, RE2 remake, and DMC 5 were all highlights last generation. Even Deadrising 3 &4 had their good parts. Street Fighter also lapsed this last gen, although they did improve it a lot after relase, but the game was essentially a beta release.
The bad news is in some older games their remasters we...
Ya, I just don't know why some gamers can't wrap their head around MS does not make platform exclusives. It is an argument that only Sony fans bring up. They can't seem to move on that MS does not make platform exclusives anymore. The ship has sailed and left the dock and is half way across the ocean yet they sit there thinking the ship isn't even built yet.
And this is not a huge blow. MS has 23 studios now. Starting with Psychonauts 2 or Halo Infinite...
Project by their very nature contain crunch time because they are date driven.
School projects often have students spend "all-nighters" to get their projects done, Construction projects often work through the night to get done on time, and now we have software projects both in business and gaming where people often work crunch time to get these projects done.
We keep on blaming companies for crunch time, but in reality this is a two way street. ...
LOL. If people would stop buying day one, then maybe, just maybe the studios and publishers would ship the games without significant flaws on day one. Now that's an idea.
By supporting day one purchases you are agreeing to be a beta tester now-a-days. Fine if you want to do that. But, I will wait 6 months and get the complete edition for half price or less.
This comment has little to do with Returnal but a lot to do with every studio in the industry.
Isn't it sad that a game is already patched to 1.3.6 and it isn't even a month old yet? This goes for all big modern games.
Then, studios and publishers wonder why gamers don't buy games on day one.
Yes, I was wrong. The enhanced edition did not automatically replace my regular edition so I was under the impression that it was not a free upgrade. I had to go into the MS Store and find the Enhanced edition, uninstall the regular edition, and then install the enhanced edition.
Almost no massive corporate deal is good for any consumer.
They do them to either make more money or to become more powerful in the marketplace. Neither of which benefits consumers.
Ya, it is not like we want a re-imagined Diablo II. Just give us probably the best game that defined the genre with a completely set of remastered graphics much like Demon's Souls. Don't try and change everything that worked so well in that game.
I would rather a game be overly ambitious (Especially from Microsoft) then be safe. I don't want them to be safe. I want them to be shooting for the fences every at bat.
Yes, I can agree with first time purchases.
But, what would've been wrong with providing a free graphical upgrade for existing owners rather then making them purchase it again? Metro Exodus on PC has extreme settings for 4K. Surely it would not be rocket science to run it in 4K on the new consoles which are essentially specialized gaming PCs. There are many games providing free 4K upgrades. Even Activision provided a free 4K upgrade on Crash's Insane Trilogy!

I don't know about you, but I can buy a lot smarter and less expensive pieces of plastic to give kids then a $199 or $299 Switch.
Switch is successful because it has a really good form factor and a lot of people that are gaming like the portability. It is something I wish PC, PS, and MS would do. I would be willing to pay more for a full powered high end mobile gaming experience that was not streaming based or compromised graphics/processing capabilities for size.
@CrimsonWing69
To me the price of games should be based on a bar of production values, complexity to make, and entertainment value.
To me $70 is simply a bar for an high production value, complex game, and that has above average entertainment value. R&C is looking like a game that is worth $70. But there is the hype vs. the actual game. Housemarque seems like they did a great job here. But, with my backlog, I can wait til it is more in the $30-40 range if n...
They can try to sell this hard all they want, but this is a graphical upgrade with a few new features. Not at all worth buying.
And this is really what it is about. "Perceived value". Games are a completely optional purchase for everyone. So, in order to sell at $70, people must perceive that they get the value back in some way.
The publisher can say whatever it wants bought if you are not a fan of rogue-like games then the perceived value of this is zero. If you are a super fan of rogue-like games you'd probably pay even higher then $70 to play this.
If Sony only sold its games digitally, I could see this may be having some merit. But since you can buy a physical disc instead of digital there is no merit.
Gotta get me new Psychonauts!
Have you actually read the article?
Personally I like rogue games so I will be getting Returnal, but really the writer is talking about the genre as much as the game itself. And just like shooters or RPGs, or platforms, or whatever are not for everyone, they are pointing out why rogue games aren't for everyone.
There is nothing wrong with that and diversity of opinion should be valued. It is not a fanboy or negative playstation rant, it is more a st...
@Barnanazboi
Ok. Whatever. You do realize my primary console is XB.
There. Just because I own an XB and it is my primary console does not mean I blindly trust everything MS tries to sell me as a technical marvel when it isn't.
I am not sure why they are pointing out PS revenue share in the article other then they are a PS fanboy.
If you look year over year, PS revenue as a percentage went up 3% from 30% to 33% while XB revenue went up 5% from 16% to 21%.
The numbers actually show that XB gained 2% more of Ubisoft's revenue as compared to the previous year.
Amazing how looking at numbers anyone can find a win. Therefore this is just a stupid article as ...
