I find it difficult to justify installing these very large games.
I don't like playing just having a few games available for me to play. I prefer to have about 150 at a time on my console in a large variety of genres so that if I am in a specific playing mood I can play a game that I will enjoy.
I have both and both consoles are really good.
But, where are the truly innovative next gen games? I am not talking dual-sense, 3D audio, FPS Boost, Quick Resume, GamePass, etc.
I am talking about a game where when you play it you think wow that is new, fresh, different, and maxes out the usage of everything in a single game this gen. We have yet to see it and probably won't see it for at least another 6-12 months.
@NealGamby
Nope. I have PC, PS, Switch, and XB. I never have a problem with games to play.
You say that but both XB and PS have tons of games to play in a variety of genres.
What you probably mean is that you like playing Sony games. Because that is really the big difference between the two platforms from a game perspective so far. Sony has put out a bunch of their games on the next gen platform. But, Microsoft has not released much on the first party front yet. Mostly that is a product of bought studios finishing their projects they had before they joined MS...
I think the main hype is that Bethesda studios which has really focused on Elder Scrolls and Fallout for about 2 decades is releasing a completely new RPG franchise. I would call it "gamers psyched" not hyped. Bethesda themselves has been really quiet about the game so it is hard to say they are over-hyping it.
Who is really hyping this game? Bethesda had a trailer in 2018 and there has really been nothing since.
Well it looks to be an ambitious franchise and a completely new IP. I am not going to buy it day one because I want to wait for initial reviews and gaming community feedback. But, if it is looking solid I will be jumping on board quickly. I love good Bethesda RPGs!
Bethesda has not been slacking lately. Doom Eternal is probably the best Doom ever and was nominated for GOTY. They resurrected Wolfenstein last generation and it was great although the last game of was an experimental side story flop. Fallout 4 was a solid entry in the franchise. Fallout 76 was the only real legitimate garbage last gen but even that has improved a lot. Evil Within was a solid new IP last gen. And Elder Scrolls Online has become very successful. Prey and Dishonored mad...
Would love to see another Resistance over a Sunset Overdrive sequel.
Looks like a 7 out of 10 type game to me. Publisher is owned by Hasbro. And the basic game is $39.99.
I expect it will be average to slightly above average. Not anything that is going to go for GOTY. But could be an enjoyable little RPG.
@Christopher
Ya, go to PC. Games cost less.
Celeste is an exception.
I disagree. whether it is the XB, iOS, Nintendo, or PS store. these stores are all monopolies and consumers are playing inflated prices for games. I cannot say, "I don't want to buy games on the iOS store" and still get games or apps for my iPad device legally. If they were competitive, like on PC, I could go to Steam, Epic, or the MS store (among others) and get games.
I really wish I could choose a store and network preference for gaming and buy there on...
I actually think EA looked at the last few NFS games and said, "We F---ed up". Then, said, "what can we do?". Codemasters at the same time realized their only profitable gaming stream is racing games and that limits their growth.
So, it is a good company match. I will wait and see if EA takes Codemasters to a crappy place, or they give Codemasters NFS and Burnout and Codemasters re-energizes them. Dirt and Dirt Rally are good, Grid is good, F1 is go...
Why do you think any business mergers/takeovers happen?
They certainly don't think, "Hey, we want to become less profitable, charge less MTs, and have more of our games compete with each other in the marketplace"
Facts are mergers / acquisitions, are pretty bad for consumers no matter how you slice them. Any merger or acquisition gives one company more control of the industry / market segment and they are usually done to save costs. EA pro...
@Jeece
Hmmmm. I don't remember saying anything about sales in my post..... Let me go back and look..... Nope, nothing about sales.
There are lots of reasons why games don't sell well on a given platform.
In Titanfall and MGS's case I bought Titanfall on XBO because I felt that would be the best experience, and I bought MGS on PS4 because I feel it is synonymous with PS and wanted the trophies on my PS gamer tag rather then XB even ...
Target platforms for games is more about the user base then the capabilities of the machine. Between PS4 and XBO there is about a 200+ million user base. PS5 and X|S might have a 20-25 million user base by November.
It just makes sense to deliver the game on both this gen and last gen consoles.
To be fair, there are not many third party games that only ship on the next gen consoles right now and probably through the rest of this year.
I give it a B+. But that is quality of hardware and then OS features as you stated.
GamePass is not synonymous with X|S. It existed before X|S. Gears 5 Hivebusters and Tetris Connected is on both X|S and XBO so nothing new there. The Medium is a good game, but it isn't amazing. The controller is fine, but Sony kicked MS ass with the new dual sense.
It gets a D- for next generation games.
Yup, and Switch is crushing PS5.
Unless you are on top it doesn't matter who you are crushing.
